reminds me of that passage in that Zen book, The Gateless Gate:
"A student said to his master, 'I am new to the monastery, teach me about enlightenment.'
"The master said, 'Have you eaten your rice porridge?'
"'Yes, I have eaten,' the student said.
"'Then you'd better wash your bowl,' said the master."
