Song Description

idea construction

The trigger for this song was something I read while listening to "Music for Airports" by Brian Eno. Robert F Butts wrote an Introduction in "SETH, Dreams and Projections of Consciousness" that clearly revealed his grief over the death of his wife, Jane Roberts.

Something about the mix of music and words brought this song into existence. Start to end, it took about two hours to create this.

Here is a different version of this song: I Know You're Here.

Lyrics:
All Through The Universe

nothin much to say
readin through all your songs
it seems like yesterday
when you were here

where it all belongs
since you went away
no more righting wrongs
i wish you were here

idea construction
building reality
idea construction
creating you and me

i hold you in my dreams
echoes of your verse
and that diamond gleams
i wish you were here

i've become immersed
and it always seems
all through the universe
i know you're here

A very touching ode to Syd &mdash 12/28/06 - 01:05:05 AM
Right? Do we have a beautiful homage genre? Really like this - thanks.

it's that diamond isn't it? or the bell?

must admit, i was thinking of him - and floyd of course, but actually it was something completely different!

<a href="http://www.macjams.com/song/21685">Perhaps She's Channeling</a> is a clue...

but you are welcome to attribute this as appropriate

thanks!

Lennon? Harrison? Or a girlfriend who wrote you love songs? Whoever it is, their music obviously lives on. I like your voice a lot, Bill.

thanks Amagi - this is good encouragement for me to explore singing some more. i keep putting it off. singing is kind of embarrassing for me somehow - (even alone. how can that be?)

Tortured &mdash 12/29/06 - 12:39:46 PM
I dig the understated tortured feel, the transparency and simplicity. Inventive sections. Really great honesty in your delivery. I echo Amagi, this is my favorite of all your postings so far.

thank you sir!

perhaps you could suggest a genre? i posted it under Emo, but later i had second thoughts and moved it to Ambient, but that didn't seem right either. then I remembered Moorlandt's recent fantastic song and figured maybe this song is similar in some way. he had genre'd his song as Downtempo, so i did the same... this genre selection thing always confounds me.

Sweeping &mdash 12/29/06 - 01:11:43 PM
.. in it's scope, this track is a serious piece of work. Lovely melancholic chords in the verse, complimented by your fragile vocal. The break is totally unexpected but works really well - this is a sombre little diamond, my friend.

that break was a strange "automatic writing" kind of event for me. i just happened. the bells came along with it, and bled over into the second refrain. later on i realized how apropos that turned out.

thank you for listening and commenting.

Breathtaking &mdash 12/30/06 - 03:49:27 AM
This is my fav of yours so far.
And about that genre I think it fits 2 "Ballad" look here... A ballad is a story, usually a narrative or poem, in a song. Any story form may be told as a ballad, such as historical accounts or fairy tales in verse form. It usually has foreshortened, alternating four- and three-stress lines ('ballad meter') and simple repeating rhymes, often with a refrain.
If it is based on political or religious themes, a ballad may be a hymn. It should not be confused with the ballade, a 14th and 15th century French verse form.
And all the fact I got from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballad

i'm glad you found this too! this song just appeared out of nowhere. the vocal delivery came out of a profound feeling of loss - which is very curious, since i am not personally in that frame of mind at all. it's very mysterious to me...

thank you

Syd Comes to Mind &mdash 01/07/07 - 11:25:08 AM
Syd was the first thing that came into my mind. Evocative tune. It has desperation all over it.

yeah, Bud thought it was about Syd Barrett too.

i think it just reveals his influence (and PF's) on my musical tastes...

thanks for listening!
