Description:
a song about a broken heart

Lyrics:
i loved you from the moment when i saw you,
i loved you from the moment when we met,
i loved you from the first time that i held you in my arms . . .
and babe, i haven't stopped loving you yet.

i loved you all the times we spent together,
i loved you all the times we spent apart,
the only thing that saw me through . . .
was knowing that you loved me too . . .
but then one day you went and broke my heart.

when you said your love had gone,
it blew me to pieces like an atom bomb . . .
i spent all my days just crying,
asking what did i do wrong ? . .

i always thought our love would last forever,
i never thought that we would fall apart,
but if you wanna walk away . . .
i know i can't beg you to stay,
'cause you gotta do what's right within your heart.

when you took your love away,
the angels said they'd never seen a sadder day . . .
they said they turned the lights off in heaven . . .
and they cried in the dark.

Beautifully Naive, CJ &mdash 12/31/06 - 10:16:12 AM
I love the arrangement subtleties throughout and your quiet, sincere singing. It would have been too easy to make this too mawkish - thankfully, I think you've avoided that and kept the mood somewhere between stoic and plaintive.

Again, the melody is awesome. The production seems more worked out on this one as well. All the vocals comes through and this is so... I don't know, who could not read into a song like this and undertsand it. It speaks to all hearts. Has a bit of Sonny & Cher to it musically, a very good song. /Mikki

I love this. Gentle and sentimental. Beautifully sincere and understated. This put me in a strange trance and I think I could feel my body moving side-to-side in rythm with, as Lemon Jelly calls it, The "Staunton Lick". (It's the term they use to describe that guitar rythm you're playing -- though I don't think it's ever been called that anywhere else, oddly enough) But back to your song: It's a timeless and beautiful production. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Haven't been on here in a while, what a great return to hear all these new songs from the master of great melodies and songmanship. Sincere and beautifully delivered. The new album both touches the heart and tickles the ribs! Thankyou Country John! -- Bobcat BJ
