Description:
This song started as a test of some of the software instruments in GarageBand. When I got to the Metropolis instrument I found it interesting because in a way it also supplies some rythmic elements especially when loooong notes are used. I pushed the record button and played along and hardly noticed time slipping past. It all sounded like a train to me and I added a few supporting sounds to this. The second half is almost the same notes as in the first part, but with another instrument. I still feel they match each other so I kept them both in spite of the 7 minutes 30 seconds result.

It is an ambient piece, so don't hope for too much melody, look for small changes instead or just dream along... To enjoy you should probably not be too stressed out to begin with. It should work pretty well in cars, trains and other transport where you may spend some time.

Artwork from a train station in Switzerland (probably Winthertur).

Hardware:
Casio CTK-611

Software:
GB 3

nice...now its bedtime &mdash 01/04/07 - 03:26:59 AM
love how you pan the pads in the early section. the water sounds are a little distracting from the trance. maybe try some reverb to space them out a little.

i really love the non-looped feel of the whole piece too. also the distinct movements give that sense of motion.

Glad you liked it and thanks for the tip. I'll try some more reverb on the "water" swirl. I put it in mostly to get some variation. Guess I succeeded a bit too well with that...

Thanks Skean &mdash 01/13/07 - 08:29:51 AM
Glad you liked it! It all began as a kind of jam session with the record button down. When I returned to edit a bit there was not very much I could do that actually improved it. Although there are only 4 or 5 tracks, it seems to be more or less enough. At least I can't figure out how to push it any further now.

I like how you kept it simple and just let it grow seamlessly. Nice mix Henke! I can already hear a little ethereal piano wanting to chime in.. we'll have to collab sometime. Great stuff.

Thank you! &mdash 03/17/07 - 04:11:58 PM
Glad you liked this piece! I am very unproductive musically at the moment (a lot to do at work etc) but if you like to mess around with some of my GB3 files I'll be happy to to send them to you. Use the mailbox to specify which song(s) and an address I can send them to. I am sorry to say I had not listened to your songs earlier. I am listening to American Dream Train as I type, and it sounds very nice! But alas, now it is tea time ;-) See you later!

I see slow rotations &mdash 09/28/07 - 08:58:26 AM
of coloured forms in an otherworldly rain. A nice, calm, be-here-now piece. Thanks!

I rather thought you might enjoy this one, some little likenesses with a few of your songs perhaps?

From one H to another: Greetings half across the globe!
