Description:
I originally recorded this years ago with Matt M. on vocals. I decided to re-do it solo. A straight forward rocker, remembering an ex.

Lyrics:
Do You Remember
© 2000 Philip VanDusen & Matt Meyer

Do you remember
The things that I remember
Did you forget
The things that I remember
We used to eat the same
Sleep the same
Live the same and
Talk the same
Go the same
Come the same
I remember like it was yesterday

All these things
All these things that haunt me

Do you still kiss
The way that I still kiss
Do you still fuck
The way that I kiss
We used to kiss the same
Fuck the same
Suck the same and
Touch the same
Lick the same
Sigh the same
I remember like it was yesterday

All these things
All these things that haunt me

Do you still rip apart
Mistakes that people make
Do you still rip a heart
Like people can’t feel pain
We used to hurt the same
Hit the same
Hear the same and
Hide the same
Heal the same
Cry the same
I remember like it was yesterday

All these things
All these things that haunt me

stomp and sway &mdash 01/02/07 - 11:23:56 PM
A powerful straightforward stomper here... I like it, but it just seems like it needs something... some kind of little extra twist... to make it great. One things for sure, you guys rock with conviction and that says a lot. Haven't I said that before?

a bridge &mdash 01/03/07 - 08:11:39 PM
Yeah, I agree, it could use something else to change it up a little. It is pretty "flat" as my wife so graciously put it. (leave it to our families to cut to the quick!) The first version from years ago didn't even have that little bridge I threw in.

some things &mdash 01/03/07 - 01:10:01 AM
just grind. so this is you doing the vocals? the grinding guitar tone is great. mike amped or modeling? i like that tone. 3 great songs (i'm going backwards here). yes, in everything there is the rule of three. great stuff!

modeled &mdash 01/03/07 - 08:16:43 PM
Vic,
Nice new avatar , by the way, very "man of the future".

Yes, the vocals on this one are me, thanks....

The guitars are modeled. I don't even own an amp anymore actually. When I need to crank it out I just use an amp modeler and play though my Mackie 824 powered monitors which are incredible--and LOUD!

I use an old Digitech Genesis 3 which lets you morph between 2 amp sounds- very cool. And I also use the amp models on my BOSS DR-880 drum machine--which are killer.

Excellent production. &mdash 01/03/07 - 02:14:31 AM
Love the "same" harmony - very cool! Simple and straight up rocker - I can hear it on our national radio station "triplej" and doing quite nicely thank you very much.

Good One! &mdash 01/03/07 - 02:46:01 AM
I like this one the best of the three new ones because it is very straight forward and direct. You're talking to someone and you got something to say. Your vocal has character and a sense of experience. It communicates the feeling of the lyrics very well. The lyrics are also very good. Good harmony too!

Your production is A-1. The rhythm guitar is great. I like the lead, but you might try a different sounding tone to distinguish it more from the rhythm.

Great job.

tone &mdash 01/03/07 - 08:21:48 PM
I used the same tone for the lead cuz I actually wanted to make it sound like the lead was done by the same guitar at the same time--which it actually was. I just wanted a thicker HuskerDu quadruple tracked mush. But point taken. That is something I am getting a better handle on--differentiating tones in guitars to add separation.

hmmm.... &mdash 01/03/07 - 03:31:11 AM
Not really used to listening to songs with four-letter words in them, but I have to admit that apart from that there is so much to like about this song. For one, this is really rocking in terms of pace and dynamism. I didn't realize that Matt M. was not you, and I thought he sounded different in this song compared to the other song. I think he does an awesome job, but truth be said I prefer your rock voice on this song, (In myp revious comment I did compare his vocal qaulities to Peter Gabriel and Steve Winwood, so that's saying a lot!). Your voice has more rawness and power and suits the angst of this song. I actually think this is better than I'm so high after giving it a second listen. It definitely is more rocking and, again, I imagine this being performed live and really shaking the house.

leon &mdash 01/03/07 - 08:27:40 PM
Thanks Leon,
Coming from you (a vocal master in my book) to say you like my vocals on this better than Matt's vocals on I'm So High, gives me hope and the will to continue. I think Matt has such a great voice and I've been working with him for so long (20 yrs!) that sometimes I just shoot my stuff off to him to do the vocals--rather than try them myself.

Matt M. &mdash 01/03/07 - 08:31:33 PM
Sil-VER,

Matt M. has sworn me to secrecy for the moment. I can say though that he has created his own page on MacJams for his solo endeavors, and is starting to collab with some folks. But until he gives me the OK to "out" him, I gotta keep mum...

Solid gold &mdash 01/03/07 - 10:13:40 AM
This is my favorite of your latest trio of tunes. I dig the summer rock feel. The lead guitar entrances are classic, the straight ahead drumming, the stompin' southern rock vocals, the just right drive. Really solid, with focused honest lyrics. Pretty great rock track.

I was channelling Bob Mould. He is one of my higher Gods of guitar. Any guy who can do seven overdubs of exactly the same rhythm guitar is OK by me.

I'd love to do a collab. Let me sift through the archives and see what I come up with. You want to do vocals? Shoot me an email and let me know what you are thinking.

First off - great drum sound opener &mdash 01/03/07 - 11:01:01 PM
Damn I don't know what to say next - this rocks and I can pull up a lot of great references - Nick Lowe, Cheap Trick, Flaming Groovies, Fountains of Wayne - but that's just a cheap way of tellin you how much I dig this - cause this is all yours and I love the lyrics and vocals and the massive guitar attack etc.

Gawd Damn, Man! &mdash 01/03/07 - 11:37:34 PM
You using loops for the drums? That kick drum kicks major ass! Everything is really frickin' tight. Another fav from racerat added to my collection!

drums &mdash 01/07/07 - 11:24:45 AM
Yup. This actually my first attempt at drum mapping w/ midi. This is just the rock kit from GB, I put the instruments on different tracks so I could EQ them seperately.

Sometimes I don't get it... &mdash 01/09/07 - 08:29:22 AM
This isn't the kind of rock that I listen to, at least not anymore, but let me tell you, I can hear the quality of this as a song and a mix....

Great impactful lyrics... that might take bleepage to get airplay... Big ascending chorus... Guitar playing perfect for the tune...

Oh yeah, and a vocal that cuts through...

I hope this gets widely heard. It's a good one.
