hiding from internal spys

i got to get outside
i got to see the light

out from the shadows i stand alone

The sun &mdash 01/04/07 - 12:42:00 AM
Vic! This rocks. The Sun? What's the sun? Since I discovered MacJams I've gotten pale as a ghost and my wife is looking....
But seriously, this is a great track, nice crescendo's. A subject close to my heart. [ Reply to This ]
the sun &mdash 01/04/07 - 09:29:27 PM
rumor has has it, that it's that big heaty thing you sometimes see during lunch break. yes the machines are having there revenge. they are made to run faster so the acoount execs can throw more work at you. no wonder my finger tips are properly calloused...and shiny smooth.
Thanks Philip.
p.s. i've also heard of these things called tanning salons. [ Reply to This ]
MJ's lament &mdash 01/04/07 - 02:44:52 AM
A great anthem for all of us, here at MJs. Recalls me the "MJ hoe" from Bud. Very good lyrics, witty and melancholic. A very nice pop song, delicatly crafted as usual. You production seems better and better at every post. [ Reply to This ]

how true &mdash 01/04/07 - 10:13:03 PM
i knew some people would feel the same. just don't name your computer. funny this is the second time the system froze while making return comments. very suspicious. i do find i'm gaining a little bit on the learning curve of mixing as time goes by. i'm wondering if computers are more of a addiction since more time is spent on it. the lyrics where generated out of fustration of not coming up with something for a while. must of been the love hate relationship. ha!
thanks as always for the time to listen and comment.

Oh man Vic &mdash 01/04/07 - 07:47:11 AM
You've really done it this time. The ultimate love song for MacJammers. Massive chorus follwed by acoustic guitars - too beautiful - and then the killer lead. Truly wonderful. Stately bass line - great singing - what more can I say? [ Reply to This ]
could say more ram &mdash 01/04/07 - 10:28:06 PM
this is one of my favorites as well. and the other space tune. the chorus i wanted to have that being swallowed up sound, took abit of fudging, but on a close enough playback, i think i was in shock and awe. and the acoustic after the chorus was tricky with 3 acoustics not overwhelming each other. i learned a lot on micro mixing of instruments on this. way to many hours. at least i didn't have to do any yard work! we need computers to do that!
thanks for all the continued support and comments.

Right from the first notes, &mdash 01/04/07 - 08:05:15 AM
I was going to say something about the electric guitar tone. Then I saw the note about the new pick-ups... Seems like they work... Fuller tone, no hiss, great bite...
But, you know, even the acoustic is sounding better. In fact, all around, this song seems one of your best mixes, if not best mix... Things seem more alive, more full, tighter... Everything is full of enriched spangle...
I love the guitar solo on this. I love the guitars on it generally, including the "big strums"... Vocals recall some Matthew Sweet...
Make sure that Daphne Kalfon hears this one (daphna on MacJams)... The dark side of 'I Love My Mac'...
Another good one...

fair trade to talk guitars. these fender noiseless pickups are great. there not humbucking but achieve the same result. from what i understand they were designed originally for jeff beck. the acoustics is my ibanez ew, i finaaly got aroung to useing the xlr output on it. makes a huge difference in tone and volume output. slapping myself silly for not using it before. the big strum you hear and the beginning of each bar is a acoustic modelling setting, which usually aren't that great. but i added a "secret ingredient" or two to make them sound as a unconventional chord. also there are two doing this with one all downstrokes and the other all upstrokes. jsut hearing those by itself is really something. i'm finding alot of nudging the pans in the stereo field makes a big difference in key spots. this has been in the works for about three weeks just to figure out the parts. i'm wondering if i'm playing the computer more than playing the guitar! thanks for everything Ed. Haunting progression &mdash 01/04/07 - 08:53:55 AM
Very cool progression on your verse, very strong chorus. Captures the obsessive love-hate magnetism of the central romance. I like how it is general enough to serve as metaphor for other issues. Nice track. [ Reply to This ]
Thank you tobin &mdash 01/04/07 - 09:53:13 PM
computers, can't live with them, can't live without them. so how right you are. metaphors are a great way to open interpretation for an abstract world we live in nowadays. this is a good example for a forum posted several days back about inspriation for lyrics. i couldn't figure out a thing for a couple weeks, finally wrote three different lyrics that just wasn't working for me. as i was scratching away, i stared at the screen, and it hit so fast i wrote these in 20 minutes with edits. funny how that can work.
Thanks very much for the time to listen and comment. deeply appreciated.

An awesome bit of songwriting bro. Fantastic lyrics...Everyman's Anthem. The chorus is simply jaw-dropping. And the periodic forays into acoustic guitar followed by your ripping and passionate leads leave me speechless...

lightning bolt &mdash 01/04/07 - 10:44:41 PM
thanks very much bro! this did take some time to come up with. i've noted i was stuck on lyrics for quite awhile. this final set came like a lightning bolt. i've really been thinking about the ying and yang of composition. i totally stoked that it came off pretty well. alot of time and hours and since we don't see much of that sun right now, i guess thats okay. i'm just hoping we are not all plugged in to the matrix right now. that could be a definate bummer.
thanks for all the continued support it has been very encouraging for me.

Just adding... &mdash 01/04/07 - 08:10:38 PM
my unqualified kudos. Your music is permanently mired in the sixties and seventies as far as the sound and the mood it evokes. And you'll get no complaints from me on that score. Wear that as a badge of honor. Great track. I am the guy in the third row standing and clapping and shouting, "All right!"

i bought sgt pepper when it first came out. i can still remember sitting there listening to it not moving a muscle. a month later hendrix experience. i was so moved i think my brain was permantly etched. of course when bowies ziggy character and tunes came out it went up a notch. i agree nothing wrong with using what you learn. now i'll have to get a bigger computer. this one will eventually get wise to what i song about. could result in serious reprecussions. HA!
Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment, as always. very much appreciated.

Another good tune from your pipe. &mdash 01/05/07 - 10:22:03 PM
OOPS! you're not smokin that pipe any more. Seems you don't have to get your inspiration from what's in the bowl of the pipe. You've managed to drive yourself crazy without outside help! LOL

Vic - you consistently come up with cracking rock tracks ... and here's another. Good call from Amagi about the lyrics in the chorus. Your vocal really tells the lyrical story here. The acoustic and electrics sound wonderful here - and a cracking solo.
Looking forward to the album.

i'm happy you enjoyed this. artificial intellegence aside, the song itself tells me what to do. i think i need to follow my own advice from the chorus and get outside more before all the letters wear off from the keys on the keyboard!
Thanks for the listen nd comments. deeply apreciated. and welcome to the site! [ Reply to This ]
thanks steve &mdash 01/06/07 - 02:03:08 PM
i guess we both know our machines very well. i find blending acoustics and electrics together a challenge but the variance in tones is so cool to fill a mix. lyrically i've stated a few times, was i was stuck and had afew that sucked or didn't fit. these lyrics came so fast. it surprised me. actually the whole on final mix surprised myself as well. no, there will be no album. not when you can get this stuff for free!
thanks for the good words and listen. this is what encourages me to work harder and inspire.

Strong! &mdash 01/06/07 - 02:57:56 PM
At first, I didn't quite get it, but after the first chorus rolled out, I was sold. This is very good, well thought out, performed and produced song. The vocals are in particular superb. /Mikki
P.S. This can stand side by side with many Ziggy Stardust productions... [ Reply to This ]
thanks mikki &mdash 01/06/07 - 03:57:40 PM
i do at times like being obscure with lyrics. but then again the old ziggy tunes use to do that. that could also be a reason why i tend to mix acoustics with electrics. hadn't really thought about that until you mentioned it. thank yo very much the the listen and comment. very much appreciated.

16K dynamic memories &mdash 01/06/07 - 11:22:45 PM
remember those?
nice tune - imagine transporting this back to 1975... folks would dig the tune, but would not really get the lyrics... and yet, it has a more general meaning (a la 1984) that is timeless... and that works now, and could work in 2037 too.
i like the background vocals - nicely fills it out. i'm reminded of "She's So Heavy" here and there...
i like the umbilical/motherboard line - perfect!
my only complaint is the opening guitar just doesn't sound in tune to me somehow...
initially i thought you meant a Sun WorkStation... nevermind. [ Reply to This ]
back in.. &mdash 01/07/07 - 01:02:45 PM
back in..75. i think a calculator that cost a couple hundred was the closest anyone saw a computer, that and start trek. the .."so heavy" is kinda true. theres 3 guitars playing the arpeggio notes of the chords. totally different chords and progression i think it also has to do with the fact that one note is the same on each chord. and the backing vocals adds to that. now that you mention could have made referances to here comes the sun, the sun king, i'll follow the sun. Thanks for the time to listen and comment.

lyric writing......and u propel them with passion....is this an anthem for the myspace generation....hehhehhhe....very very kool.... [ Reply to This ]
true &mdash 01/07/07 - 01:08:07 PM
every generation needs an anthem. i didn't think it that way but true & very funny. i think "my generation" was suppose to be on the finge of my generation. i don't think that held up so well, now that i'm older.
of course i'll have to upgrade the lyrics in a few years.
Thanks for the listen and comments.

thoughts from the bull... &mdash 01/19/07 - 01:16:03 AM
discovered this one in the 2006 MacJams Retrospective collection and i must say, i understand why it was chosen.
this is really a very heavy song both in texture and concept. i can actually imagine this as part of a much larger conceptual piece. it could be part of a rock-musical-epic about the slow disintegration of an individual who has become a slave to his/her own cyber addictions.
or not. hehe... i think the piece is just outstanding and everything is so darned tight about it - music, lyric, vocal, and that searing guitar! wow!
glad i discovered this one! thank you!! [ Reply to This ]

you must be a mind reader. i have a few songs that can string together to form a mini opera, that i have recently been thinking about, with little short tunes between to carry the storyline. a blend of matrix/2001 sapce oddessy. probably will take a little while to complete. doubt if it will come to be herad here, but on cd for friends and if ever get time to finish my personal web site more than likely there, if anything it's all about fun.
Thanks for all !! [ Reply to This ]
Sweet! &mdash 02/11/07 - 03:44:43 AM
I'm gonna be singing this one all night. I love the acoustic sound you have. Very full and not muddy one bit. This has a "David Bowie" quality to it. You mixed the electric and acoustic guitars very well. Hat's off to ya.
I'm blind!!!
Cheers,

i like to combine different guitars into the soup. i think its a texture thing. but don't stare for to long. when you close your eyes you'll have to contend with those spots that dance around in you eyelids.
Thanks for taking the time!
