Mimi: Vocals
Mcboy: Big guns
Thoddi: Phat strings
Macca: Pencil of bam bam toys; drums, steel drums, etc... + aggressive bass, some guitar and believe it or not, only a couple of loops. What next...

That I would have the priviledge of being able to work w/ any one of these artist indiviually, it would make me feel like a luckiest soul. But all of them, and on one piece... -- Boy do I feel fortunate!!!

I would fill this page up if I went into everything that I'd like to say about what each person contributed, and how it was so right on... so I'll stop here 'cause... well... you guys know...

Thanks to everyone for hanging out w/ me on this. A special thanks to Mcboy and Mimi for sending me this, and trusting me enough to virtually let me have my way with it.

Mimi, you have such a beautiful voice! Thanks!

Thor, there's a man ya just gotta love! Talk about sweet and in the pocket... Thanks, Thor, your the best!

Mcboy... you... Your talents always blow me away, but you really got me this time!

I sure hope that I get to hang out w/ either one of these artist on something in the future.

Hope ya enjoy it. Thanks!

OK I guess ; )
Love Mimi's vocals - the rest is OK I guess ; )

A really unexpected collab with a quite unexpected result - in that it is a sum of (some extra good) parts rather than any virtuoso stuff (Mcboy's solo excepted of course).

This is some really classy stuff - very different, but quite perfect in execution.

Nice work Macca in bringing this together. Everyone done good!

What a coincedendce that you'd be first to comment...
Because you were the very first person to hear the first take on this. I don't know if you recall, but I sent this to you on it's first go round before Mcboy heard what I had done to Mimi's accapella rendering of this - Remember..., I wasn't quite sure if it would meet his standards (and I'm still not) -- You were very supportive to me in encouraging me to send it back to him, while comforting me w/ the thought that he would be happy w/ it.

Neil, you are always, always there! You are truly a friend. Thanks buddy!

wonderful surprise
From the first note I heard I knew this was going to be smashing. A very surprising and extremely original collab. Sorry, I can't come up with any little quibble. This is so good. And wow, a big bravo for Miriam's splendid voice and vocalising. No hiding behind any effect or reverb, just pure beauty. Ah, and those close harmonies somewhere in the middle of the song... yummie. Like Neil says: real classy stuff.

Magnificent
Sunday morning. Was trying to catch up with the long list of post I did'nt have the time to listen these last weeks, saying to myself don't make long comments and move fast. Bad start. Second great song I feel obliged to drop a few line to express my awe. Love the funky guitar in the bkgd, and of course the McLaughlin solo for our wunderkind guitarhero, but also the voice, drumming, composition, mix, everything%u2026 Love, love, love.

Everyone's part is so clear
Thanks for noticing the clearity - These guys are so talented and it would be a waist to have them all messhed into one sound ball. But mostly, I do like to be able to hear every SINGLE note that an artist has expressed. 'That' note is who they are...

Thanks for your very kind sentiments here, Z -- Much appreciated - Macca

To my ears....
...THIS is what collabs can be...

It has a slightly, but only slightly, higher degree of structure than some of your stuff... Allowing it to be more "songlike than some, even while it pulls and tugs at the limits of song structure...

The recording itself is pristine, and sounds all of a piece, all in acoustic space... perfect, really... I don't hear it as a series of contributions and recordings... It comes across as one thing...

I love the acoustic guitar bits, I love the different electric bits from McBoy, and the vocals are stunning. After those items, the deep bass really got to me...

And lyrics! Look at that! Lyrics! Hmm. Might have to sponsor a 'Lyric-Off' if THAT'S the direction you're going... Not to get competitive or anything... 'Cause it's about MUSIC, you understand...

Sure do wish a fellow could vote on this.... This is a real deal high number thing...

Ed
Ed Hannifin said 3914 days ago (January 7th, 2007)
Not to mention....
...there's some gorgeous tone on the opening drums...

And, if I may ask, who is doing that opening acoustic guitar. Sounds really good....

Macaudion said 3914 days ago (January 7th, 2007)
Cool!
Knowing how miticulous you are, and to get your high marks makes my efforts worth it - This is nice to hear considering the fact that, I'm still waiting on my new studio to be set up. I did all of the editing w/ headphones -- My speakers are a very cheep, temporary fix -(I paid five bucks at a swap meet)- And would you believe that I've been a true audiophile for ALL of my life. I'm afraid to know what might happen when my decent studio is ready.

Structure - I don't know what this word means in music, I only know that something about it must exist...

Lyrics - Well, I never asked for the lyrics, but I was quite happy w/ this opportunity to be able to make an attempt to match music to words, and more than to, just the words of a title. And I was gonna post what I believe are the words to this, and thought..., what if I'm wrong and I messed up Mimi's tune - I mean, there are some pretty obvious and definite musical responses to 'the' words that she so beautifully sings - And what if she supplies the words and they're not what I thought... - LOL - Silly fears, but real - However, I would encourage her to send me the lyrics if she's so inclined after reading this post - hehee

Well anyhoo, thanks for 'your' words about this little ditty. You gotta know by know, that I hold my breath until I see your name on my song page. Sorry, but it is true.

Thanks you, sir - Macca

I love this.Could be the poster song for Mj. What a stew of talent. Miriam's compelling vocals, the way cool minimalist music played & mixed to perfection, it defies category. except to say brilliant. There's so much sweet stuff going on, I could listen to it to a thousand times and still want more.

Very original and different
Very original and different, yet not artificial in character.
An interesting and somewhat mysterious mood.
Production: Wow, I say every good things others have said already!
Dig this a lot.

Finally, but not leastly; I am greatly impressed by you people getting this together in such a way! Internet collabing is no easy craft and it lacks traditions to draw from, but you seem to have developed skill enough to teach collab-classes within higher musical education.

Thanks Cori!
Certainly, it's a great pleasure to see someone who is as esteemed as you are showing up on my page. Well, I guess this page belongs to four of us, but even when it's split 4 ways, it's still huge. Thanks!

And as far as what I know about working out the bugs of internet collabing... - I think that the magic happens as a result of who's there for the gig. I mean look at the lineup. These guys... Batteries: included... Directions: unnesessary... Warranties: for as long as you can hear...

A no brainer... But thanks for the vote of confidence, Cori - Macca

Blown away
by this piece. The vocal is beautiful, and its purity (although I do hear an effect at times? flanging?) contrasts beautifully with the melodramatic bigness of the other arrangements. The way the song gets back on track after McBoy's initial soloing licks is fantastic. All of this instrumental greatness coupled with your amazing sense of what works gives a totally unprecented track. This is new...

Hey there sir, if you only knew how many times I almost sent this to you to ask if you'd be willing to replace those acoustic guitar loops at the begining of this... I already know that you would have done a perfect job.

The sad part is, that the only reason I didn't send this to you is that I was too afraid that you might be too busy to work on this like, NOW. Silly, huh... - I didn't want to offer it and then snatch it back w/ the comment, 'oh sorry, that's gonna take too long'...

It's just that this had been on my plate for way too long and I wanted to just, release it. So I did.

Thank you for always showing up to show your support. You have a good ear, and you always offer the most encouraging words. That flanging thing bugged me too. Thanks for mentioning it.

And yes, I do have something for you to check out and see if it vibes with you. It's kinda sketchy right now, but you'll get the pic. Send me a note if you have the time.

Thanks! Peace - Macca

Elevated or not...
Well, well... If it ain't the gunslingn' man of most hours... Dude, do you have any idea of how much work that little episode you had at the end caused me... LOLOL... I've been waiting to see you... Hehe... Everytime I listen to it, I go into a trance-like state of disbelief...

No really, I'm sure that it is true that you have this ability to elevate anybody who might chooses to hang out with you. I'll bet that it happens in everyday life and on many levels and likely, you have no clue. You are a humble soul but you're pretty cocky too, however rightfully so.

You did everything exactly like it was meant to be done, even if I didn't always have the bestest response. Mostly, after I would listen to something that you'd just given me, I'd always feel that I needed to go back and upgrade what I had done. I had to work harder... Maybe this is the act of being elevated while being conscious enough to know that it's happening, and how much work was ahead of you because of it... LOL

But it's all very good and I'm quite happy to have been apart of it. If growth was gonna happen, and w/ such a spirt, I'm glad to know that it was w/ a humble soul.

Thanks! Macca

Awesome
What a cool collaboration. Mimi's singing is very, very nice. One of the great thing about this song is the way that it's open, yet keeps changing and adding new elements... but they all fit together so well, like a collage in which each of the pieces is it's own artwork. Ok, not a great illustration of what I mean, but it's early :) I enjoyed the clean, groovy, originality and talent that you packaged so well, Macaudion, bravo!

I think that I understand the picture that you're trying to create, and yeah, that's nice compliment. Making things fit was almost all of the battle on this one, for me at least. The pieces to the puzzle were all very nice pieces to work with. I'm sure that I was too fussy at times though.

As always, yours is a name that I hold my breath to have show up for these little parties. I really appreciate your support, David! Peace! Macca

What music can be...
This should shake us out of our formulas and forms... and get us to thinking about all that can take place in a world that gets painted with sound... A line up of all stars... all loved... Mimi, you don't know me but I fav'd your stuff early on...

anyway Dion If i had to imagine what this would sound like... my imagination would have fallen short... I would like to point out that as talented as all the participants are... there are no primadonas here... all parts work toward the whole... and it's is a soundscape beyond imagination...
Check out my latest song called Dogwood
Macaudion said 3914 days ago (January 8th, 2007)
No primadonas aloud...
'Hehehe'... (as Mcboy wouod say)

It's funny the different things that people see or hear in what we have a tendency to be too close to. I can't recall having any need to cater to thoughts that individual efforts needed to be balanced - You know, ya just try to balance things out - Everyone did the right thing.
No real back and forth of efforts. People do there parts and you just kinda do what you do with them...

Imagination... Scott, imagination is the last thing that you will ever need to worry about falling short on. If you were in my shoes, you might not have imagined what I did, but you would have imagined what you would have and people would been very impressed. You know..., kinda like we always are w/ what you do... And I did enjoy my part in all of this, and thoroughly so.

Thanks for dropping such nice words here, Scot. I'm not even gonna mention what I'd like to do next - I'm just not... Peace! Macca

Just great
I had planned on telling a little joke related to this, but now I can't remember what it was.... so just assume it would've been funny.

This is such a smooth piece - subtle changes, good flow, nice clean production and pretty much flawless performance. I've always been a fan of Mimi's vocals and I wasn't dissappointed here. Especially that solo, harmony part just before McBoy's guitarsolo (which was pretty darn cool, too) - very Imogen Heap-ish!

Well, I have nothing to criticize here and since I don't remember that hilarious joke of mine, I'd better just wrap this comment up.

Great work from everyone who came near this - a great collaboration, indeed!

Exceptional collab
Wowee - had to listen to this a few times to get my head around it because there's so much great stuff going on - just needed to get the shape in my head. Everything about this is wonderful, Mimi's understated singing, the playing (exuberant and otherwise according to need) and of course the production which somehow manages to meld all these disparate elements into a very satisfying whole...

Excellent project brilliantly realised.

Uplifting, and sunny. It's like being on a beach in Negril.
Better than the rainy day here.

Great effort...
...from "Macca and Our Gang." LOL!

I like everything about this tune---all the different parts gel incredibly well. But I gotta say it's the production that utterly blows me away...Radio ready, this...

Be well!

excellent collaboration!
I really enjoyed listening to this; there are lots of interesting elements and artistic touches pulled together into a pleasing, cohesive whole. I'm always impressed when a collaboration works out this well. Everyone sounds great.

The pacing and build-up from the beginning is excellent; starting out from the simple percussion (cowbell, LOL!), gradually adding the layers of synth and guitar and vocals, then building further with the cymbal swells...adding more synth and guitar layers.

Then I like the way it drops back to a thinner texture, a good break for the ears...and builds up again. Very well done!

The use of tympani is an unexpected, imaginative touch.

Very nice, the way this song goes out in a blaze of glory with the virtuosic guitar, then gradually fades out.

This song definitely demonstrates that you have come a LONG way with your music here (although I've always liked your tunes, from the beginning).

This is well-produced and the ideas presented are tasteful and artistic.

Great stuff!
What masterly production and great performances all round. It builds up some beautiful richly layered soundscapes, but you're not afraid to make use of the spaces and silences too. Mimi's lovely vocal sits very snugly on top of the rest of the track. Excellent work.

On occasion
I like to revisit songs on my faves list to see they pass the test of time... would I still like the tune as much as I did the first time...? Glad to say the answer is a clear "YES".

There is so much depth to this song! Again, an excellent job putting the "art" in art-rock. Of course, this comes from a dude who thought Art rock was the end result of the breakup of Simon and Garfunkel.... sorry- couldn't resist!
