Description:
Well, as the song itself says, this was written a long time gone. Resurrected so that you may hopefully get some enjoyment out of it.

Lyrics:
Evangeline, I loved you, why did you slip away
Instead of learning to come together
Evangeline, was the sweetest girl, she came into my life and then she floated away again
Why is it that we never see until the darkness comes, why don't we understand that it's a long time gone
The Moon just went behind a cloud and I'm alone in a crowd
But I can still remember you
Dark eyes flashing, long brown hair blowing in the wind and then you floated away again
Why is it that we never see until the darkness comes, why don't we understand that it's a long time gone
Evangeline I loved you, why did you slip away instead of learning to come together
But I remember you laughing with me and that's the way I hoped it would be for the rest of our lives

Great tune! &mdash 01/08/07 - 03:03:47 PM
I think I have made bob Dylan comparisons about you many many times before, and i have to do that again. It is a lovely tune. Your guitar playing is very good, however I hear some timing Issues, but then again, it doesnt matter anything to me! The song reminds a bit of mix of "wonderful tonight" and "Mister Tambourine Man". However, most of all it reminds me of you. It has that great Bronco melancholy soothing sound that I love. The lyrics are very strong, and they way you sing them truly makes me feel them in my heart! Thank you for this beautiful tune Thomas!

You know... &mdash 01/08/07 - 05:21:04 PM
...everytime I hear the song "Evangeline" it's a different song. I looked up the title "Evangeline" on iTunes. There's gotta be at least 20 different "Evangelines." Not different versions. Completely different songs. It's gotta be one of the most used song titles ever.

Regardless, I really like this particular "Evangeline." Great melody and guitar work. Classic lyrics. Evokes the melancholy that comes from remembering a long lost love.

Oh My! &mdash 01/08/07 - 07:27:18 PM
I did the search on iTunes and see what you mean about the title. In my defense, I wasn't aware of a single one of these songs before I wrote mine. I doubt if very many of them were in existence when I first wrote this song in 1975. That said it is embarassing and looks like I wasn't very creative in coming up with the title. Of course the original Evangeline was the heroine of Longfellow's epic poem. The song is about an actual girl from south Louisiana so that name just symbolized that region for me without actually using her name. I am happy with the song though and am glad you liked it overall and didn't let the title prejudice you against it.

Oh, no predjudice at all... &mdash 01/08/07 - 10:18:20 PM
It's a very cool name and I always wanted to write a song based on the Longfellow poem. And, may I just add, wow....1975.... I was 7. That just makes it even more awesome. :)

Long time gone... &mdash 01/10/07 - 08:57:59 AM
...yes...this takes me back both lyrically and musically. Nice arrangement. Love the Spanish style leads in the mid-section. I've always loved your singing Tom. Always sincere and from the heart...never stilted or contrived. Well done my friend!

Take care!

Bronco,
Enjoyed the song,I was unfamiliar with any other songs titled Evangeline as well. I like (like the post you put up the same day) the extended guitar section, playing very well. Lyrics of a Love Lost. Very Nice Piece.
Good to hear you playing/posting
Take Care
