Description:
Mystified posted the original a cappella version of this track way back in February last year. I was struck by its beauty and power and after having listened a few times I found myself hearing an imaginary violin playing in the midst of Mysti's celestial choir.

As seems fairly typical with me it has been along while between me getting the idea and actually realising it (although in part this has been due to me being anxious not to ruin the qualities that I loved in the original).

I'm very glad to say that Mysti has heard this version and has kindly let me go ahead and post it.

Vocals - Mystified

KK, this is the most remarkable showcase of your fiddling talents. I love your pacing on this, and your playing is just heart wrenching and beautiful. This is the violin doing what it does best -- with komrade k at the controls. :-) Thank you for sharing this.

And thanks for picking up on the pacing - I think that's the key to the whole track. Making this with Mysti has been a great and inspiring experience.

PS - you getting yer fiddle out soon? ;)

........ Whitstable ???? The original was beautiful for sure, but you've taken this to a very high place indeed. Wonderful virtuoso doodling there KK - I'm impressed!

I hope I wasn't being demonic here... &mdash 01/24/07 - 07:09:11 AM
...although I might have one or two devilish tunes up my sleeve which I might 'grace' MJ with by and by.

Thanks for commenting - I'm really glad you thought the violin added something here.

Komrade K.... &mdash 01/10/07 - 07:08:44 PM
There is less grit, and a positive, powerful sweetness to your fiddle playing here. You've got a very nice sound from the electric violin, and your touch seems light to my ears...

I think you are playing against Mysti's vocals with grace and great feeling... The fiddle does not sound at all like an "add-on"... once heard, it's integral to the piece...

Reassurance... &mdash 01/24/07 - 08:06:36 PM
... is what you've kindly given me. I've detailed elsewhere that I found mixing this difficult (especially as I didn't want to lose what Mysti had already achieved).

Thank you

...for joining such a magnificent voice with mine.

It adds a softly wistful, bittersweet serenity.

Just beautiful :)

I still don't know... &mdash 01/15/07 - 08:00:35 PM
...where this came from (it's a bit classical for me and emotionally it touches a deep seam). And I still agonise about the mix which sounds different everytime I listen to it. But what I do know is that it's been fantastic working with you in this way (and being able to get under the skin of that special Mysti sound).

I can already feel this track influencing more folky based projects I have in the pipeline.

Thank you so much for giving me the go ahead to work on this.

Mysti's piece was made... &mdash 01/13/07 - 09:56:12 AM
...for your violin playing K---she just didn't realize it! This is hauntingly lovely. And the tuneage matches the artwork perfectly as well. The whole package works!

Be well!

Man... KK... Misty...

It seems that every time I become impressed by a new high level of musicianship here, something unlike this comes along and just blows me farther away, but this time, toward celestial places...

This is quite a glorious piece, you two.

KK... Those chords are quite ominously alluring, and they're ever so beautifully intertwined with Mysty's wonderful voice! You've cradled her every note with such an assured sense of care and intention. This is pure and true artistry, being shared here.

Quite paradisaical -- I'm astounded...

... ... ...

Thank you! Macca

I could have listened a lot longer! &mdash 01/14/07 - 05:52:10 PM
You both have impressive tones on your respective instruments. Personally, this evoked a picture of a great musician who has lost his love, and is now reflecting on her beauty while playing his violin. The idea of bittersweet memory is everpresent in this performance.

You may be right... &mdash 01/24/07 - 09:17:42 PM
... whilst I couldn't say exactly what this is about, I do agree that it does have a sense of loss and sadness about it. I got a bit muddled on the title and kept calling it 'In echo of loneliness' (rather than the title I've used here which is Mysti's original). I suspect this error indicates the well spring of this version of the piece...

Thanks for feeding back.

pretty &mdash 01/16/07 - 09:34:56 AM
it has a very peaceful soothing sound to it thus far. nice atmosphere. id like to hear mysti a little louder, she seems a tad too much in the background to where im sometimes not sure she's there. beautiful piece.

Well... &mdash 01/16/07 - 09:03:39 PM
... the mix has been a source of worry to me. I tried listening to this on different speakers/equipment but I was getting either too much violin or too much vocal depending on where I played the track. I also wanted to allow for some drama to come through on the fiddle line so it had to really cut through in these places. There was a very broad dynamic range on the fiddle before I started tweaking and for the most part I was lowering the levels on parts of the fiddle track.

It's a shame that it didn't work for you as well as it could have done but I'm glad you liked it overall.

This music comes from far away. Maybe the next canyon, maybe the next world. It's hauntingly beautiful. Compliments.

I shudder and swirl. If I had an ounce of your talent on any instrument I could die a very happy musician.

Truly incredibly sweet accompany. Cant wait to do something with you and Rebsie.. really really cant wait!
