Description:
An original rock tune I wrote and performed with my local garage band, Alderbash. Recorded in some guy's home studio on a Mackie system. I was hoping to mess with the mix in GB, but the Mackie files were a proprietary format...ARGHHHH!

Lyrics:
You've got eyes to die for
And you've got lips like a cherry bomb
You've got nothing at all, nothing that I wouldn't lie for
You've got everything, everything that you need
So won't you open up your head and let me in
Don't you want to see the sunrise on my face?

You've got shapes to die for
And you've got hair like sheets of golden rain
You've got nothing at all, nothing that I wouldn't lie for
You've got everything, everything that you need
So won't you open up your smile and let me in
Don't you want to see the sunrise on my face?

We've got tonight, there's no tomorrow
So let's get high in a basement room
Then let's climb up to that other space
Don't you want to see the sunrise on my face?
You've got everything, everything that you need

Hardware:
Don't recall everybody's setup, but mine on lead guitar was an old Musima semihollowbody guitar through a Vox AD50VT

Software:
Some kind of Mackie sh*t

Pretty good mix on this nice tune. Can you get your buddy to push out some neautral files like aif for you? Seems like if he's using Spike with TRACKTION 2 you'd think he can push out something you can use...

This mix is tracked out pretty nice - I'm sure you must have already asked...

Nice catchy rock tune here, 4th listen and it's growing on me. :-)

I asked about pumping out some .aif's for me, but the guy told me he needed some type of plugin to do it, a plugin that he did not have and that neither of us was willing to buy....so, we are stuck working with him in his studio again. Not that that is so horrible or anything. He's a nice guy, but he costs MONEY!

I was reading the manual... &mdash 01/15/07 - 12:18:15 PM
for the software. It would probably clip the sound, but you could get him to burn a CD of each track and then rip it off on your computer....

sounds pretty &mdash 01/15/07 - 09:15:09 AM
....neat....the vocals sound a bit wide though....is that intentional? Nice happy feel to it! :-)

Wide...? &mdash 01/15/07 - 06:44:26 PM
By this do you mean panned too far apart from center? We basically left the tracks with the guy who recorded it and he made the mix decisions himself. We're not wild about several aspects of the mix--but this particular song sounded best out of the whole bunch. The whole thing was a live take for instruments, with vocals added after. It was one of those "lets record a demo of 8 songs in four hours" things....so essentially a live take.

BTW, thanks for the listen

Glad you like it. And thanks for the listen. You are the man of many faces, lately, with your constantly changing images! I like this one better than the iPhone!

Basement pop rock &mdash 01/17/07 - 09:44:11 AM
Very nice clean sound, clean writing, mainstream classic form. I like all the basic stuff you are doing, especially your vocals and guitar work. My ears wanted slightly more variations to the stop at the end of your phrases, which I initially loved, but then it became programatic. Perhaps a few drum fills or pickup notes to give the backup band more personality. But I love the simplicity of the track. A wonderful example of classic basement rock.

This actually started.... &mdash 01/17/07 - 03:23:11 PM
....out as an acoustic tune, believe it or not. It's a rather ordinary progression and arrangement, but it sure is fun to play! Thanks for the observation on the stops. The guys in the band tend to miss half of them when we play out live anyway!....but we may try filling with drums or even a bass run at next rehearsal.
