Description
This is a work by Richard Schletty and myself, Richard singing, Ian playing guitar, lyrics by Richard, done in the ancient form of Seguirillas, the oldest of the so-called "Deep Song" improvisational forms. "Ansiedad" means "Anxiety" in Spanish, the source of angst. This is a: "work in progress???"

infused
Ian sent this to me weeks before Christmas, His seguirillas styling kept haunting me -- in a good way -- so that I finally was compelled to put my voice to it. I intend to extend the song. For a long time, I have been fascinated with male coloratura styles of singing in the Mediterranean and Middle East -- countries such as Spain, Italy, Egypt, Lebanon and India.

a fine archer
As the Spanish poem says: "Sevilla is a tower of fine archers." Richard is a fine archer. He immediately understood the art of singing seguirillas, placing the right note at the right time, while at other times weaving in and out with the guitar. His voice is full and powerful, at other times soft and ornate. His waver is executed with high skill. In Spain there is a national competition for singing this form, Richard has done extremely well in all categories if you ask me. It has been a real privilege for me to play this purest of forms with him.

Hey! Terrific...
...but too dog gone short! I hope doing this piece whetted your appetites to try something a little more extensive. Rich your vox is well suited to this type of music! And Ian your playing is lovely as always.

Be well!

Thanks
Thanks, more is to come and Richard has plans to extend this piece... Imagine if you will the Islamic call from the tower for people to come to the prayer. The brevity lay in that image for me.

many thanks
I have become very interested in the Italian angst in contrast to the Spanish duende (goblin, spirit) and mixing these two with the German muse. Richard seems to use all of these together in what he calls pathos. I like his current deal very much, his understanding of latin seems to compliment the idea.

Passion
Well, I'm into it! The abbreviated ending caught me short, but I'd definitely be into hearing more of this. The only way to sing this kind of music is to belt it out, full of passion and Richard is doing a fine job in that department. Love the guitar; I've always loved flamenco.

Yes!!!
There is no substitute for passion!!! It does allot for me too, to hear a flamenco singer belt it out. Richard was great. Short yes, but Richard will be extending it, with more great lyrics, too!! And Thank You!!!

synaptic crackle pop
Working on the full treatment, but trying to keep it lean and sensitive, like hungry synapses.

Not fair...
for you to post a song-- er, a half-song -- and leave your listener wanting for more. I was really getting into it... the awesome guitar playing and Richard's chameleonic vocal performance (wow, how versatile!) ... then it abruptly fades out! You guys better complete this song, or you've done an injustice to a really great beginning.

Yes, finish
You are right we must finish it, sorry to leave you hanging. I really wanted to post what we had because it seemed to me Richard was really in a great moment there. His singing is so true to the spirit of flamenco and the art of seguirillas, a style considered the most difficult to sing in flamenco, and he sang it as if he had been singing it all his life. I find it really phenomenal that someone could do that. I sure appreciate your compliments on how we perforemed, I really fealt I had achieved what the flamenco artist strives to achieve. I feel we were both catupulted into a Spanish tavern just after the bullfights, putting our emotion out there amid the bravura of Spain. Such moments bring so much meaning to life for me, and I hope others. I am so thankful to Richard for making it happen.

It is similar yet different. I redid my singing completely using a MacBook pinhole mic. New lyrics, mostly English now.
