Haven't heard from you in a while been worried with all that's been going on in your neighborhood. Glad you're back and that you enjoyed this tune. Look forward to more of yours - hopefully soon.
Take care my friend,
Charles/Bowman

atmosphere &mdash 01/13/07 - 05:14:36 AM
Once again, you've creatied an atmosphere very successfully; it feels ominous and beautiful at the same time. At the heart of this is the repeated brass figure with its martial feel, and while this is central to the creation of the feeling of ominousness I mentioned, for me it got to be a little too much after a while, in part because it was so much in the foreground. If you consider Ravel's Bolero, which has a very similar repeated rhythm running through it (in the snare drum, I think), the rhythm begins more in the background, and our ears are allowed to focus more on the foreground melodies, and then, slowly and inexorably, the rhythm becomes more prominent as the piece progresses.

Just a thought... but overall, as always, you've done a very fine job here.

Ominous and beautiful... &mdash 01/13/07 - 10:59:22 PM
I like that and think that’s a good description of this piece.
By now you know my music pretty well and it's always great to get your take on it. I really enjoy using ostinato and this piece certainly makes use of it. I'll listen again to Bolero and see how Ravel brings his melodies into the foreground. It's always an enjoyable way to spend 10 minutes and I'm always looking for ways to improve my music and technique.
As always thank you Clark. I wish I could be at the premier of "Aftermath" tonight but I'll just have to imagine it.
Best,
Charles/Bowman

Anticipation &mdash 01/14/07 - 01:13:21 PM
Nice. I wanted it to progress, a wonderful intro to something????? On tenterhooks, what's next? who's there? Is it me next? I like this, but I was waiting for more, am I odd? Am I next? could it be me?

Thanks my friend to more questions and I am sure the answers I should know.

Be good to yourself and yours near to you, in peace

Steve

Questions are good Steve... &mdash 01/15/07 - 04:04:40 PM
Sometimes better than answers.
I suppose it could be delolped into a longer piece. When I get more skills and confidence in them I may return to Red Skies.
As always thanks Steve.
Best,
Charles/Bowman
