A place for everything, and everything in it's place, and you've certainly achieved that here. What a wonderful job of mixing things together. The only thing that I can think of, is that the way it fades in from the beginning. I had to crank my speakers up to hear what was being said. Not that that's a huge deal, but the only thing that I'd change.
Overall, beautiful piece!
SmokeyVW
glad you liked it.
it is rather too soft in the beginning... that's probably going to have to be fixed.
thanks for commenting!

Great job with the backing strings and sounds. Much better than the bebop drum set! Mixing on the original tracks also adds a lot: better dynamics, more atmosphere and a really nice ending :)
SmokeyVW
of course, many thanks to you for writing this wonderful song in the first place!

guys, this is gorgeous! So transparent and sparkling - would make for a great movie scene. I quite enjoyed the beautiful melody and chord changes, coupled with the natural sounding instruments. GREAT extended fade ending. Just great. One small thing, though: The stand-up bass didn't quite mesh to my ears. I was trying to figure out why, and I think it's this: All the instruments have a bit of reverb, right? The bass track just doesn't have the same 'ring' to it. It feels too separate. Of course, this is listening through my monitoring headphones, and I'm sure it's not as apparent through speakers.
This was an instant 'fave'. VERY inspriring piece. I'm jealous of this creatioin. :-)
MissChaos
make that "creation"

wow. glad you liked it! thanks for the detailed comment.
it's interesting what you said about that bass. i generally avoid any reverb at all on bass because it tends to make it blurry or mushy (wish i could think of a good word for it).
but now that you mention it, i wonder if applying a little reverb to only the midrange and high frequencies would work? the bass wouldn't get blurry, but you'd hear the attack sounds with a touch of reverb - that might do it. i'll have to experiment a little with it.
i wonder how other musicians deal with this effect?

Hey mister smokeyvw - nice job on this. I went hot air ballooning once, and I can tell you that I enjoyed this tune more than the actual experience. The hot air balloon ride that I went on was actually quite noisy, and accompanied by the smell of kerosine, or whatever was used to fuel that puppy.
This was peacful and relaxing, Smokeyvw. I could almost feel the gentle warm summer air flowing by as I listened. Your tune was everything that I had expected from my actual balloon ride.
A very, very nice job!
Thank you! Macca

i've never been on a hot air balloon ride...
but long ago i lived in a house on a hill, and every once in a while, on a nice Sunday morning in the summer and fall, a hot air balloon would glide overhead, just barely clearing the trees. they were so close that my wife and i could hear the people talking in the gondola.
sometimes the operator would need to gain a little altitude and burst the heater, making that big roaring sound. we'd look out the window to see the balloon go past... we always thought it was an astounding sight to see.
it's a pleasant memory i'll never forget.
and that's where this version of the song came from i suppose.
so, i'll ignore your mention of kerosene and keep my memory.
thanks for listening, and also in my replying, letting me enjoy this memory yet again!

Awesome job SmokeyVW and peacepiano! I love the melody that peacepiano did, along with your remix. Very nice job. Can I join in sometime? lol.. Keep it up. ;)
