Description:
The 'Russian Rag' was 1st recorded in 1918.
In my arrangement I have the Montreal
Waldorf-Astoria Dance Orchestra's 1920 {public domain} recording for Berliner Gramophone as my introduction. It then goes from 1920 to 2007
so I guess you could call this the "RagTimeMachine". My version was arranged from a solo piano midi.
Hardware:
iMac G5
M-Audio Keystation 49e
Software:
GarageBand
Amadeus II
Various soundfonts & synths

Great music, great orchestration... &mdash 01/13/07 - 07:17:07 PM
as usual, you have a marvelous sense of orchestration, not only straight-on, but synthy and tongue-in-cheek as well... this is what I aspire to when I grow up! The clarity and balance in your mix sounds very good, and I loved your choice of wacky synths in the beginning there.

Hi Scotty &mdash 01/16/07 - 04:00:59 AM
Hi Scotty, I dig music from this era so much that I am almost ashamed to say that I actually dig your version a lot more than the oldie. But so it is, you have brought great depth and harmony to it.
I am amazed of how you succeed getting so much life into music based on synthesized and sampled sounds. This can't be something you learn to do overnight - which is obvious to me after my own stumbling trials. It is very rare to hear productions where technical instruments render the vitality, dynamics and liveness that we hear here. I am deeply impressed - besides happy to be able to download such a nice piece!
You choice of tune is great and wonderful for the arrangement you've done. I am grateful that you fished it up from the sea of music history, otherwise I would probably never have heard it. [ Reply to This ]
