Description:
there are people in this world who strive to make others as miserable and unhappy as they are. this song is dedicated to one of them.
Lyrics:
i woke up in the usual way
i couldn't tell if it were sunny or gray
tried my best to estimate
the best guess was I was gonna be late
i took a look and i went outside
didn't see any place to hide
rolled up i and took a dive
i'd rather be kept up inside
let's put this one away
it's just another ugly day
read the words that you had to say
made me ill in a silly way
tried my best to impersonate
the best guess was I was gonna be late
i took a book and i went outside
didn't see anybody alive
rolled up and i took a dive
agoraphobimaniac inside!
let's put this one away
it's just another ugly day
when you try to do what's right
and the world can only criticize
everybody's got a right
to shove you under the tires and spin 'em!
let's put this one away
It's just another ugly day
maybe another lovely day?

Kinksy &mdash 01/14/07 - 06:31:33 AM
I like this...it reminds me of the Kinks circa Muswell Hillbillies album...a world weary but cheery ballad. I am sure Ray Davies would approve of it!
Cheers

I hear the Ray Davies comparison and also our own Country John. Fun, jangly, well sung, very good lyrics and really catchy chorus. [ Reply to This ]
catchy &mdash 01/14/07 - 11:39:24 AM
I love the chorus on this... specifically the way you sing and elongate the word "day". I really think you've got the makings here for a perfect pop tune. It'd be neat to hear the repeated chorus at the end sung by a whole crowd of people, a la "If Venice is Sinking" by Spirit of the West. Do you know that song? I really like this one, Mr. Bull. Good Songwriting &mdash 01/14/07 - 12:59:31 PM
I really like this. Very strong lyric writing. I love the line "agoraphobimaniac inside" Great stuff!
I don't care for the effect on the vocals. It puts a little too much distant from the intimacy of the song for me. But that is purely a matter of taste. This is faved and downloaded! [ Reply to This ]
Sounds Great &mdash 01/14/07 - 08:42:58 PM
Nice contrast between the jangly, pop sound and the somewhat dark lyric. Reminds me of a song I wrote, at least in subject matter, called Another Day. I agree with Steve, had that ironic Kinks tone to it which is all good! [ Reply to This ]
A whole lotta fun &mdash 01/14/07 - 09:35:50 PM
My British heritage tells me Ray Davies is the closest comparison here - that mix of cheerful and tired. Like the Beatleesque harmonies too.

fun and bouncy &mdash 01/14/07 - 10:08:11 PM

Great song... &mdash 01/15/07 - 11:53:20 AM
Upbeat tune contrasting with the downer side of life lyrics. Helps put the chorus lines in the right mood and perspective. When I get home from work to is a downloader. Thanks for this helpful start to another ugly day!

Nice Tune! &mdash 01/19/07 - 10:11:56 AM
You've got a great tune going on here! Especially like the contrast of the upbeat melody, with the slightly "darker" lyrics. Maybe it's my ears (I listened a couple of times), but it seems like the guitar/percussion is slightly off at the very beginning, it may just be something clashing (or my ears/speakers). Otherwise, totally digging the tune. [ Reply to This ]
cool stuff &mdash 01/30/07 - 11:13:58 AM
i like it! there's something about the one voice and guitar that really intrigues my ear. [ Reply to This ]
I love it &mdash 01/30/07 - 08:22:04 PM
I think I'll save this and play it when people get crabby . What's so cool is the music is upbeat and happy, so it's like you;re saying " Go ahead, give it your best shot, but you ain't gonna drag me down." This is great; can't wait to play it for the teenagers. [ Reply to This ]
Thank you, gang! &mdash 02/05/07 - 05:32:46 PM
just realized I never checked back on this song. jeez louise! ugh
thank you all for your kind feedback. i'm really excited that you all enjoyed his one. i don't get really ticked off too often, so to actually write a song when i was angry was not an easy task.
originally, the song wasn't so upbeat, but the more i played it, the more upbeat it made me feel. who'da thunk?
thanks again! (PS - i LOVE the idea of being compared with the Kinks/Ray Davies! wh!) [ Reply to This ]
Been there, endured a few of them... &mdash 02/06/07 - 12:35:23 PM
Catchy great smirky song and lyrics. It sounded like there was a very light phaser effect on your vocals, which din't seem necessary and made them sound a little thin(?) to me at least... especially since I otherwise like your vocal quality, and here you almost sound like Tom Petty in places. Also reminds me a little of Jiguma's style of songs here and there.

Great stuff &mdash 02/08/07 - 04:29:32 PM
Your guitar work is always fabulous Boris ... love the jangly retro style. The pairing of happy-jolly melody with the dark lyrics is a great combo. Very nice harmonies towards the end too.
Remind me never to get on the wrong side of you, hehe ... [ Reply to This ]
Another lovely song. &mdash 02/09/07 - 10:25:17 PM
Very Lennon/McCartney-ish.
I really liked what you did when you got to the part about the spinning tires. And the added backup vocals to your chorus portion at the end was great. [ Reply to This ]
thank you! &mdash 02/10/07 - 12:17:25 AM
drakonis, rebsie, and barnold... thank you for such support and kind words. i'm happy you enjoyed it.
one of the things i wish i could change about MacJams is the ability to replace a song with a newer version. the newer version (which I remixed from the same tracks) eliminates much of the double-tracked vocals, most of the effects used (nice catch, Drakonis!), and some other issues.
i didn't want to have two versions floating around, so i just left this one up.
can anyone recommend a way to post/replace a song in this manner?
anyhow, thanks again. the feedback is always the best here!

Still a big big fan! &mdash 02/15/07 - 09:47:07 AM
I can hear Mickey Dolenz singing this. The thing you said about this song being written in anger & then sounding all chipper & poppy? That happens to me a lot! Cheers, Boris! [ Reply to This ]
Thank you, Matt! &mdash 02/15/07 - 05:16:44 PM
I appreciate your comments, Matt. Thank you. If anyone knows where this song came from, you do! i look forward to seeing you play again, soon! peace!

Interesting &mdash 03/05/07 - 06:58:25 PM
I like it; if something has made you so angry, why hang on to that anger; put it away, if I get what you're saying. The light hearted music makes the lyrics more accessible and they surprise me nicely. The rhythm, lead and vocal are superbly mixed. Nice sound. [ Reply to This ]
