Description:
Brandon and I worked on a BRAND-NEW song this week, Panic Bank, which is over at his page. Please go and check it out.
'Panic Bank'
Thank you very, very much for listening.
---------
Last May, Electro Estate and I worked on Still Breathing together and I've always been partial to it. He often cleans up his song page and removes older work, so we've decided to post this song permanently over here. This may be the heppest song I've ever done.
Another one I did with Brandon, which is by far one of my most downloaded songs and one of my all-time favorites, is Mermaid.
Again, I'm very grateful to anyone who takes the time to listen.
Thanks guys!
Lyrics:
I need to tell you something, the only reason, I'm still breathing, don't go yet without regret, I need to tell you something.
Rain, rain, stay away, what I have, you can't take away.

Awesome! &mdash 01/14/07 - 05:54:41 PM
I love it! You two make a perfect pairing with your voice and Brandon's style. I believe you need to do a whole album. I'd certainly buy it! More please! [ Reply to This ]
Cool! &mdash 01/14/07 - 06:03:59 PM
You know, Ross, I think we might have enough for an EP at the very least. We have another one in progress at the moment that's a little more epic in nature and I think that puts us at five or erm...six..um, how many, Brandon?
Thanks for saying you liked it and, if you like, just send me your credit card number now and I promise I'll keep it in a safe place until the EP comes out. I won't buy an iPhone with it, I promise. [ Reply to This ]

This is crankin', Lise. Definitely an aural funhouse. Definitely. I sound like Rain Man now. LOL! [ Reply to This ]

After I finish this comment, how about we head over to the K-Mart underwear department?
Aural funhouse is a good description. EE did some very cool stuff with the music and the prodution on this song. [ Reply to This ]

That's a great funky groove. You guys always make awesome music together! I think you're both especially on with this tune, it's extra fine. [ Reply to This ]
Groovy &mdash 01/14/07 - 07:12:23 PM
A compliment on the groove from the groovemaster is always a good thing. Almost everything in this song except the obvious comes from Brandon and, I agree, he was particularly "on" when he put it together.
Thanks, David [ Reply to This ]

Awesome! Cool to hear you do something so over the top Lisa. If i still participated in the whole voting thing I'd give this high scores straight across!
Be well!

Over the Top &mdash 01/14/07 - 07:38:34 PM
EE erases my inner perfectionist. I find working with him very freeing because I really don't have a clue what he's doing, so I can't second guess myself, which leads to me just trying whatever strikes me. He can make anything into something.
Thanks for the psychic high scores, Mike. [ Reply to This ]

Scary &mdash 01/14/07 - 09:55:57 PM
Wow, I didn't think there WAS anything beyond supa-dupa. I thought it turned into tundra and then ice and then anyone hapless enough to have wandered out there fell into a gigantic hole and received a head injury.
Thanks Jim!
P.S. I'm in an email correspondence with Danielle Howle. I have no one but you in the world to tell that to who can understand how COOL IT IS! She's very chatty, which is not really a big surprise.

Glad to see this gem back. &mdash 01/14/07 - 10:33:07 PM
I've listened to this song a few times before, and yet on repeat listening there is always something novel and exciting that I discover about it. It has the trademark uniqueness and unpredictability of an Electro Estate composition/arrangement and the unmistakable delicateness of Lisa's voice, plus a lot more in between. Long before Lisa joined the duo TheOrbiting, I believe this is one of the songs that defined her music. Of course, EE is the one and only one that can sound like EE, and anyone who works with him will inevitably be transformed into his musical vision. [ Reply to This ]
well &mdash 01/15/07 - 08:08:42 PM
I am not sure anyone would actually WANT to sound like me.
Only if they are a little nutty too. There are two E's I guess. I could loan one of them out. No never run out of nice things to say Leon. It's friends like you that make want to continue creating music.

you pop diva, you &mdash 01/15/07 - 09:59:58 AM
I have visions of Lisa in her sexy black leather outfit, onstage with her silver sparkly microphone, high heel boots and fan blowing her hair back... and don't forget the super shiny lip gloss and big gold medallion; Singing away as all good pop divas do. Brandon's back there too, with his mixer, turntable and a few drum machines and synths. It's a great vision. I'm such a girl, eh? This is a great amalgamation of two talented people that I've grown very fond of over the last year. Best, you two! [ Reply to This ]

Upbeat trip-hop? &mdash 01/15/07 - 10:11:36 AM
I thought trip-hop was supposed to be depressing; this is pretty upbeat. This is a great track. The sound programming is excellent, and I really like the creative way the voice is used in it. Lyrics are almost subliminal, and the vocal samples that pop up almost as sound effects are very cool. Excellent all around. [ Reply to This ]
Stubborn &mdash 01/15/07 - 08:18:52 PM
Well trip hop is techincally 85-110 BPM, but it does not have to be wrist slitting sad to be in the genre. Maybe this is questionable to the genre, but it fits better than anywhere else. [ Reply to This ]

whole lotta things... &mdash 01/15/07 - 12:21:27 PM
Think I will need a few spins of this one before I'm familiar with all the things happening.
I like the start. Great one.
It's whirling 'round and 'round and tries to drag me in... I'm not really sure what to say... I like the grooves, drum sounds and the hallelujahs. And the abrupt stops and how it starts again. I'd like to hear your voice higher in the mix Lisa, but then again I guess the mix is meant to be like this.. [ Reply to This ]

Great &mdash 01/15/07 - 09:56:44 PM
This is very erotic. Not saying this becuase of the fact that you're a woman and I am a man. If this was a man (or if you are a man), the song is very erotic. Very cool mix, with nice layers, great vocals, and very nice surprises from the keyboard arrangements, as well as the samples used. /Mikki [ Reply to This ]

Lisa - never heard anything quite like this from you - this is big and brash and would scare trick-or -treaters away at Halloween. This is complex but not tricksy ... i listen to this and really wonder how the hell you can write something like this ... my head's too linear. Melody and discord - fantastic. the mix is so good, the song leapt from my speakers and kicked my head in.
More please girl (and boy).

One of the best songs so far this year - I'd probably like to hear Lisa more clearly and louder in the mix (although I guess that's just showing my age). Superb production on this track. I concentrate on that aspect coz I haven't got into Trip Hop yet although I feel myself edging closer to liking it. Does that sound funny? I don't know - it sound to me like very cool music but it doesn't quite do it for me ... yet. :O) [ Reply to This ]
Trip Hop? &mdash 03/30/07 - 04:43:19 PM
Diverse and breakbeat...
I've been a fan of the Trip Hop/Dub genre for many years and some things this track might be, Trip Hop it isn't.
For definitive comparisons, try Massive Attack, Kinobe, Leftfield, Future Sound of London, Tricky, Faithless, and of course... Nightmares on Wax. Sneaker Pimps also have their moments (their use of John Barry samples is outstanding).
The grandaddy of all is of course the imperious Lee "Scratch" Perry during his Blackarts period: The greatest being his dub rendition of the album he produced by The Congos. Check out Blood and Fire records. Perry was doing tape loops and wax disc loops whilst the UK was fizzing along with The Sex Pistols and the US was doing disco. Funnily enough, John Lydon collaborated with Leftfield in their quintessential album Leftism and Lydon's bassist was one Jah Wobble, who used to tour with Maxi Jazz from Faithless. Perry also produced an excellent album with John Martyn. Big Muff stands out (about an effect pedal...) as well as co-writing (although mainly uncredited) with Bob Marley.
You need to keep the riddim down to the old roots reggae standard of 90bpm (and no more!) and build a bass platform (the legs of the piece) and this will give the consistent base to the heart (intrument melody) and head (vocals) of the piece. Check out Protection (featuring Tracy Thorne) and Angel (featuring Horace Andy) by Massive Attack. You'll observe a central loop that's layered in composites that is pure wizardry. 3D knows his stuff! Also, Grant Marshall (Daddy G from Massive) produced an excellent DJ Kicks. Five Man Army from their first album Blue Lines is a masterpiece, with beautiful mash-up chants in heavy Bristol accents from Mushroom and Tricky, with Daddy G, in his own words, Sharper than a Wilkinson Razor Sword before Horace Andy rounds the track off with sweet roots! You can't go wrong! [ Reply to This ]
