Donkey (5)Sneeze (2)Lolita (1)Lecherous (1)Black and White (2)1930's (2)Blistering Lead (1)Snatch (2)
Description:
This is a collab with sonny jim. He did the drums and the samples, I don't know where he came up with them, but they are killer! Great work, man! I did the bass, guitars, synth's, mixing and mastering. It's kind of a fun-lecherous-sell-your-soul-to-the-devil-dancey-type-of-thing. Oh,... with BL. (blistering lead)

A touch of sleaze! &mdash 01/14/07 - 10:06:09 PM
Some rich stuff happening in this Philip - evocative of Sly and The Family Stone in places (I was a big fan in the 60s). Soundtrack music for sure - maybe there'll be another James Bond film coming out soon and you can make a heap of cash! Terrific BL!! You get such brilliant production on everything you touch - this is certainly in that category.
Definitely my fav of the 3.

I am always wondering what genre to call this stuff. I somehow think that by listing it a some favor of Rock I'll get more listeners passing by. Maybe I'm being greedy, but deep down I think I'll get passed over if I called it Experimental Movie Trailer Music!

great groove set up by the bass. everything just oozes from there. dug the wah filtered guitar solo. this is what i'm talkin' about on your dance tune. and yeah it could make for a cool bond tune.

Another one.... &mdash 01/14/07 - 11:09:29 PM
...with a perfect bass line, terrific assurance, bits of humor, funky wah, great rhythm and lead guitars, (and I'll say that I'm as impressed with your rhythm playing as with your lead stuff)...

Great sounds, great recording...

Rhythm &mdash 01/16/07 - 02:09:23 AM
I have always felt rhythm guitar playing was under recognized. The lead players always seemed to get all the chicks!
Thanks for grooving.

Yeah that sonny jim is one sick mo' fo', but you got to love him. He's a genius. Where he gets his stuff, I'll never know. He's just now coming out of his shell here on MJ, I'm sure you'll be hearing more from him.

If you liked 7 Years you might like Jesus and California, one of my earlier submissions. I'll try to keep it real to my rock roots, I just get seduced by the dark demon of funk and just have to get my groove on.

The hihats are too loud in the mix!! This track is good!! But you need some bridges to turn changes lighter!!! Well done song!!!

Very Cool &mdash 01/15/07 - 09:13:51 PM
The bass is awesome. The beat is too, and the guitars fill the spaces in a very clever way. I think the hi-hat is a little bit too loud, but that's being picky. I love the sound bites you bring in, reminds me of a lot of things I've done. It's FREE and playful, not many rules. The final guitar track is very powerful. Dig it. /Mikki

hi hats &mdash 01/16/07 - 02:21:40 AM
Thanks for comin Mikki. I appreciate the critique. You and Craft are both right. The hi-hat is too hot. I always seem to spend the least amount of time on the drums. I such a guitar and vocals head. I use a DR0880 drum machine a lot and don't ever really go in and adjust the kit levels much--resulting in levels that aren't ideal. I just need more immediate gratification....;-)

Awesome groove.. &mdash 01/16/07 - 12:26:37 AM
There is no question that you are a master at this genre of music. I can just sit back and try to pick out every great elements you threw in there and they seem to just fall into their proper places. Even the vocal intro and sneeze in the middle seem all deliberately artfully placed.

This one has a free-flowing structure, i think, and altogether paints a rather indistinct psychedelic vision. The title is provocative. Maybe that was the vision I was having. Hmm...what did you put in my drink? I'll have more of it, and that music, too.

Hey Leon, Thanks for listening. I just listened to your new tune "Sexy Back/ I Don't Miss the Rain". REALLY cool and hip for you. Don't get me wrong, I Love your ballads, but it is nice to stretch out once and a while, isn't it. That's why I have to do cuts like this. They are just so infectious!

Righteous props to sonny jim for his great drums, soundscapes and quirky samples make this the song what it is.

WOW ON THE WAH - i just LOVE the way that guitar talks.

this piece is a most splendid upper, full of intensity and the right kinda weird chordal relationships taking it off in strange but satisfying directions. ahcoo cracked me up, but was very well done. the marvelous line up of samples kept my ear feeling like a surfer riding the Big One. great job, guys - look forward to more of this ilk. anne

im jealous of your talent &mdash 08/08/07 - 03:02:52 AM
this has a serious porno groove to it... ive tried to make music like this before, and failed miserably. youre a genius guitar player man, with a lot of different styles. your collabs with sonny are seemless.. you work well with each other. also, the artwork you have posted here, is really very cool.

jealousy &mdash 08/08/07 - 12:53:14 PM
No need to be jealous. Just sharing what we do, you know. You have some serious chops you are developing too. The CD artwork is mine, just one of the many personal CD covers (production runs of a total of 6!) that I've done. Graphics is my job, so it one of the things that is really fun about making music, producing the collateral materials to set the mood!

work &mdash 12/04/07 - 02:15:10 PM
Hey Steve, Still scanning the back catalogue I see! Thanks for the attention!

I have worked with SonnyJim for over 20 years. We have over 500 songs recorded, though only about 200 of those have been put on CD. The rest are crap and have thankfully stayed on 4 track mixdown tapes! Since both of us have gotten on MJ we have been playing with other people a lot, which after 20 years has been great for both of us.... but I am hoping we get back to working together more soon.

Really like this song &mdash 12/05/07 - 03:54:48 AM
I was listening to my iPod last night in alphabetical order, and this song came on. I knew it was from MacJams, but I didn't know it was yours. Listening to it brought to mind our earlier conversation about being 'adventurous' in songwriting. I'd certainly call this song adventurous, and I particularly enjoyed that aspect of it. I learned somthing from our conversation, for which I am grateful - of course, it was something i already knew... but I hadn't really seen it until you mentioned it, and it was perfectly illustrated by this song, which just happened to come up in the iPod last night after our conversation...

Beyond that, I just really enjoyed the listen. Such a cool journey the song takes you on...
