Auch Sprach Zarathustra? &mdash 01/17/07 - 05:39:50 PM
The echoey sometimes-dissonant chorus reminds me a lot of some of the music from "2001: A Space Oddyssey" (of course your artwork helped.) I Must admit that although I really liked the initial choices of synths and chorus and bouncy bass plucked sound, after about 1/3 through I was expecting and hoping for a B-section to come and rescue me from the relentless bass note, just a jump up a third for a bit, then back down, say, or a B-section, then back, or even fade the throbbing slowly away and have something else waft in, then return, say. It was a good start, but got too repetitive after a bit I think... at least to my ears. Hope this is useful... just my opinion of course!

Magical &mdash 01/18/07 - 02:13:09 PM
Very magical. I loved the journey it took me on. One suggestion my ears wanted: a real woman's lead vocalese. Consider asking one of the fine sopranos at MJ to add something. It stands on its own, to be sure, but this might be just the right finisher. Something to bring an arc to the dynamics. [ Reply to This ]
Thanks Tobin, &mdash 01/26/07 - 02:37:03 PM
Your suggestion of asking one of the very talented sopranos here at MJ to ad to Cold Dreams is very tempting. I'd like to resolve some technical issues with this piece first but I'd love to see and hear what they might bring to this. If anyone is interested let me know.

Interesting concept &mdash 01/26/07 - 12:23:48 PM
Wouldn't have thought that choirs and synths could blend at all. But you make it work. When I think of a movie, many times I will remember one particular scene which defines the experience for me. The soundtrack is usually directly responsible for that and this song has that kind of potential. Unexpected, intense but vast. Very interesting and well done. [ Reply to This ]
Thanks for checking this out Parichayaka, &mdash 01/26/07 - 02:30:35 PM
This isn't typical of my work and I did have a couple of technical difficulties that I haven't solved but it seems to have generated a bit of interest. Like you I am sometimes deeply moved by the soundtracks and one way or another a lot of my music is connected to film.
Combining choir and synths at first does seem unusual but for me it suggests our busy conscious and our deeper more mysterious subconscious always at play.
Been a while since your last terrific post. Hope the ends soon.

Nice piece of space music. Until I read Drakonis' review, I hadn't noticed that the bass stays constant. Let it stay, I'd say. That's part of the charm, how the texture in one sense stays the same, yet in another sense keeps developing. I enjoyed this. [ Reply to This ]

Moving serenely.... &mdash 09/22/07 - 10:34:20 PM
Strong evocation of movement, sometimes slow rotation, sometimes picking up speed, but all the while being at peace. Wonderful work! [ Reply to This ]
