Keywords:
Azathoth (1)pv (40)perceptualvortex (48)neutron stars (1)electron-positron annihilation (13)kapow (11)horror (16)
Description:
Headphones are probably a good idea. Listening to this over and over until you go insane is probably not.

This is truly experimental. I've been having fun processing vocals in Gleetchlab; it's ugly, and most of it I don't like. But here's the result of arranging the bits that I do like.

It sounds to me like a monstrous voice, probably Azathoth.

Hardware:
Mac G4

If you play this song backwards, it's Prince's "Purple Rain".
How did you manage to do that?

Well &mdash 01/17/07 - 11:43:13 PM
Prince and I are on the same wavelength. Just 180 degrees out of phase from each other.

No! No! No! &mdash 01/18/07 - 02:27:25 AM
I'm sorry, David. I really want to listen properly to this, but you have managed to really wig me out and tap into the thing that scares me more than anything, Freaky Man Voices (tm). I can't watch any movie or engage in any media that involves a man's voice coming out of a child's or woman's body and I can't tolerate Disembodied Distorted Man Voice (tm) either. If your next song is about wasps and hornets, you'll pretty much have hit all my terror points.

I have faved this song in the hopes that it will make the Man Voice go easy on me. ;-)

P.S. I think this is really what Dion's voice sounds like in your head, egging you on for the Drum-Off.

Ha! &mdash 01/18/07 - 02:50:23 AM
Well, there's a mixed blessing, I guess: I feel like I succeeded by wigging you out, but then... well that's the downside too. If it's any consolation, I'm sure Azathoth doesn't much resemble a child or woman, but instead something... well, much more disturbing. Hmmm... there's not much to reassure you with here, Lisa, except to say that the Outer Gods are thankfully very unlikely to take interest in your life. I really don't blame you for screaming in horror and running down that angled, paneled corridor with your hands stretched ahead of you like that. However, I do appreciate that it reflects a genuine emotional resonance that you felt from my terrifying art. Up next: "Day of the Hornet". Just joshing you; the next song will be short on Freaky Man Voices and stinging insects, and heavy on the crazy, truly crazy, percussion. Still, you're right about Dion.

Once upon a time &mdash 01/18/07 - 12:17:16 PM
There was a poofy little bunny named Sweetie McSnuggles. He was a sousaphone player in the kindergarten animal marching band. The only problem was that the heavy brass instrument made him march with a comical, almost-falling-over gait. So he switched to piccolo and saved the day. The end.

I thought you were going to make the sousaphone squish the bunny. I'm relieved.

.... Dubya letting down his guard in one of his more lucid moments! I may have been a little premature in faving this one David, although it is pretty amazing. "Fave" is probably not the right description - I can't wait to see what Mr Macca says :)

Does W ever make this much sense? Thanks for listening, Neil; I know it's almost arrhythmic and abstract, but Lisa's horror made me feel like I did something right. Peace, D.

Dunwich... &mdash 01/18/07 - 07:50:57 AM
...is "a vague echo of the decadent Massachusetts countryside around Springfield--say Wilbraham, Monson and Hampden." [According to Lovecraft...]

Of course, having been born in Springfield and lived my younger life in Wilbraham, Hampden and Springfield, this is territory I have biked and hiked many times...

So naturally, hearing a voice so evocative of the old days gets me all homesick...

Charming little folk tune from the campfires of my youth...

"Eh-y-ya-ya-yahaah - e'yayayaaaa... ngh'aaaaa... ngh'aaa... h'yuh... h'yuh... HELP! HELP! ...ff - ff - ff - FATHER! FATHER! YOG-SOTHOTH!...".

Ready, kids? Now EVERYBODY join in on the chorus....

Gosh, I didn't realize that you were basically from Dunwich, Ed. Glad that I could take you back with this one. Wayy back. Put down that Necronomicon.

Yog-Sothoth happens to be another tune I'm working on (but don't worry, Lisa, it's about rhythm, not Freaky Man Voices!), and it's a more happy, monstrous tune.

Thanks for listening, Ed!

WHOA!!!! &mdash 01/18/07 - 01:24:29 PM
First thought: This is Treebeard after OD'ing on too much purple shelf-fungus!

This would definitely be a great thing to surface in the middle of one of your insane drum-riddled Tsunami pieces... Leviathan versus Kraken (sorry, I'm stuck on the "vs" thing.) Anyway, add some giant bubble arpeggios, crashing swells of drums, and this would be downright scary!

Treebeard! You hear that, Lisa? It's just friendly ol' Treebeard.

Yes, I like your ideas, and I think I may just follow them and make a scary version of this. Your "vs" is good, but I would also like to get Ghidorah in there, vsing as well. Thanks for listening and your ideas, Drakonis!

So can ya buy that stuff over the counter... &mdash 01/18/07 - 11:52:19 PM
What did you just do to my pschy This sounded like the slow melt of a burning soul, David. Of course, the visuals that imagine will accompany a future dethroning event... Hehehee

Things got heavier, slower, darker, and more intense as it progressed toward the end... Like a REALLY bad trip (this is in no way a reflection on this sound garden that you've created here)

Heavy... Deep... Lots of intense colors, but mostly, dark... Amazingly visual... Course w/ texture...

I almost sensed a funky slow groove creeping into play here, but the end prevailed...

Intense bed of sounds!

And I walked away impressed, again... Although, I will need to quest for a saviour, so as avoid wearing this to bed tonight.

Thanks D, Macca

Hmmm, that dethroning event is coming up--if that's what it is! What have you made for it, Mr. Challenger?

Yeah, it does sound like a bad trip. Or a good one, if you're into bad things :-) Thanks for listening, D, I'm glad you found this to be visual and full of dark colors, that's exactly what I'd hoped. I always appreciate you stopping by and sharing your thoughts!

I sure hope you were able to find a saviour on your quest.

Thanks, man!

I agree, it sounds like a monster--> trying to communicate from another diminsion, or something. Definitely a great listen with the headphones. A shortened version of this might make a cool intro for some heavy rock tune- at least that idea crossed my mind ;)

Thanks man, I'm glad you dug this. I agree that headphones are definitely the way to go with this piece (how can I call it a song, ha!) I think you're right about this type of thing being a good song intro... on the other hand, I'm hoping ledebutant will listen to my future songs, so who knows :)

Where is PV and what did you do with him???

Really, really scary.

Wow, I haven't used Soundedit in a long, long time. Do they have it for OSX?

[ Reply to This ]
MissChaos &mdash 01/20/07 - 04:06:29 PM
I should have released this around Halloween! I don't believe there's a SoundEdit for OSX; I actually switch to OS9 to use it, believe it or not (it's not the only OS9 software that I use that I don't dare run in emulation). It's cool that you've heard of that program; that was my mixing platform years ago.

The real PV is around, slowly working on a buncha stuff. I don't usually bother posting these kinds of experiments, but since I don't have anything else to offer at the moment I thought what the hey. The next one won't be a monster. Thanks for listening, MC!

You ever hear of them PV? They would have a melt down track like this mixed in for some of their stuff every now and then. There must be one particular song of theirs Im thinking of though because it really made me go right to them in my head as soon as this started.

I woul dlove to hear this iece as a break down in the middle of some nice psychedelic slightly fluffed piece of music.. and then before you know it youve slid into some raved up indie piece with ot vox on the back beat imploring you to charge up the dnace floor and make goo goo eyes at the dj...

More coffee... :)

Yeah, I've certainly heard of Sky Cries Mary, but I'm not sure I've ever heard them (just tried to sample them from the iTunes store, but it's offline right now!) Anyway, that's cool; I really like this kind of effect (even tho it's a bit scary :) and think it belongs in more music. I do have some warped voices in some of my other tunes, but not featured prominently... I like your idea for incorporating within another tune, just don't tell Lisa.

Thanks for listening and commenting, Didge!

You should have squished Lisas rabbit though.. though she knew it was coming (even though it didnt), there is still some sense of satiation when things happen exactly as we thought they would.. (like really bad sex sometimes... or the horrible cooking of a bitter mother in law :).

Not yummy but abhorently satisfying, yay!
