Description:
The power went out the other day and this song came out too.

The first line of this song pretty much sums it up..."I don't want to have to love you". Love should be something that wells up from within and flows over. If I have to remind myself to love than i need to look under the hood real deep and make some tweaks so that love is an automatic expression of who I am...not some cloak i'm trying to disguise myself in. The chorus represents a sort of meditation complete with chanting 'ahhhhhh's.

I tweaked this tune, remixed and uploaded it to MySpace which you can find at:

http://www.myspace.com/thestereocraticparty

The MySpace version of this song is an updated version...it's not the same one as on this page. It's currently available for download at MySpace too!

Lyrics:
ALL I WANT
©2007 Ray Kainz

I don’t want to have to love you
I don’t want to feel like I have to care
So I don’t dare

I don’t want to have to hurt you
I don’t want to feel like I’m unaware
Like I’m not even there

It all seems silly so ridiculous
I’m in the middle between that and this

All I want to do
ahhhhhhhhh
All I want to feel
ahhhhhhhhh
All I want to be
ahhhhhhhhh
All I want to see
ahhhhhhhhh
All I want
All I want

I don’t want to have to turn away
I don’t want to have to watch what words I say
Hey – who let you in anyway?

I don’t want to have to praise you
Have to pray
Is it really true what I’m given I must use
Or lose?

This isn’t working I’d much prefer that
But this keeps meeting me right where I’m at

All I want to do
ahhhhhhhhh
All I want to feel
ahhhhhhhhh
All I want to be
ahhhhhhhhh
All I want to see
ahhhhhhhhh
All I want
All I want

Wow! &mdash 01/20/07 - 03:11:37 PM
If you write songs like this in the dark, I'd be afraid to see what you could do in the light. Well done. Very cool chorus too.

Excellent Song &mdash 01/20/07 - 04:22:44 PM
I am glad you stopped by my page or I may have not encountered this song. This is exceptional, I love the intricate transitions and powerful layers of harmony. Very melodic and has a cool 70s progressive rock vibe with a tinge of Beatlesque stylings. Arrangement and instrumentation are exceptional and the vocals are very good as well.
By the way very inventive guitar solo.

You're one of the best musicians and writers we've got here and this song is just more evidence. I hope the power goes out at your house a lot. Maybe you could forget to pay the bill.

Hey Ray &mdash 01/20/07 - 10:11:45 PM
So very good ... you are so very good... I put you and I. Spike in the very top of the MJ class... you show such an emotional range.. all my sons have Don't Tell the Queen on their ipods(it kicks)...and I never told anyone I wrote it... and now then, here is a different direction with such a great impact... perfect storytelling...

complete respect here; Scott

Woah - where'd this come from? &mdash 01/20/07 - 10:28:42 PM
What a great song - very XTC - and that's a really good thing by me. Also has an early Todd thing going on which is more than alright too. But beyond the comparisons - you've just produced a killer track here. Damn this is good. No crits all praise. And it just keeps getting more amazing. Wow.

xtc & todd &mdash 01/21/07 - 11:00:28 AM
I love XTC....the band. So any comparisons drawn to them I'll accept with open arms and open legs. Todd Rundgren actually played at a party my neighbor threw two summers ago. Lots of folks have mentioned him to me but I've never really delved into the wolrd of Todd....but I should...I've liked everything I've heard from him.

Tight and smooth! &mdash 01/21/07 - 01:08:56 AM
Great harmonies Ray - love the Hammond-sounding keys. Vocals could maybe come up a bit for my taste, but still clearly excellent. Guitars sound very smooth, and the tone is perfect. To me this would be a "pop" genre rather than "acoustic rock", but whatever it is, it's darn good! Beatle-esque in parts - especially the response harmonies towards the end. You've put a lot of work into this, and it shows.
Cheers,
Neil

yo Neil - &mdash 01/22/07 - 12:44:46 PM
Hey Neil - yeah, i'm also starting to think that the vocals aren't present enough, so i'm gonna have to fix that. As far as the genre, I wasn't sure how to categorize this, pop always makes me think of Brittanny Spears and since I can't shake my booty like her and since i did use acoustic on this i just stuck it in the acoustic rock category but you're probably right on the genre thing too. Anyway...thanks for stopping by!

Perfect &mdash 01/21/07 - 09:09:11 AM
What a good song. Radio ready hit!
Loads of good stuff packed into this tune. I hear influences of the Beatles and classic rock/pop songs.. But you have made it your own, and it is impressive how you have arranged/performed and produced it.

Great!

"Dang, you're good".

There is a certain touch of professionalism about your work that not many people on here have.
I love it!

You've got a great sound going on here! It's airy, and I love the drums throughout. The acoustic is very well done as well. The harmonies work very well as well. Great tune!

Nice! &mdash 01/22/07 - 12:07:16 AM
You should hook up with Robert and Dean DeLeo of STP fame. I think I might have mentioned this before but your vocal stylings are a lot like Weiland's (which I enjoy). However, you make this completely your own. Do you have a CD out?

[ Reply to This ]
Nice! &mdash 01/22/07 - 12:51:23 PM
hey Adam - thanks for your time and comments. If you have Robert or Dean's contact info I'll take it! Not sure if they'd take me though...Weiland is a monster singer but i appreciate the reference. I don't have a CD of my own stuff yet. I am involved with a few other bands who are also working on new recordings but as far as my solo stuff goes i do plan on releasing something but I'm just really focusing on the songs right now. Once I get 10 or 12 i feel real strong about the CD will be released. Maybe this year? Maybe not. Thanks again for listening!

I love the mellow chord... &mdash 01/22/07 - 11:04:07 AM
progressions in this number... very reminiscent of some late sixties and early seventies music, as Vic mentioned. I always like your vocals and here is no exception. I do wish they were a little more up front, though... so as to match the impact of your very cool instrumentals. But I am really nit-picking here. This is floating around at the top of the cream of MJams.

[ Reply to This ]
hey Jack - &mdash 01/22/07 - 12:58:26 PM
nit-pick all you want Jack...that's the kind of stuff I want to hear. Jiguma also mentioned the vocal level thing and I agree with both of you, so thanks so much for listening and lending me your thoughts!

I am glad you take the XTC comparison kindly. I've got all their stuff (quite an accomplishment, as you prolly know) and this ranks with the best of it. I actually believe this is what Partridge and Co. would sound like were they still making music today (with you on vocals). I love the chordal movements, the skippy time sig, the smooth vox - it all just works so well. I hear your lyrics too - been in situations like that before.

RE: song &mdash 01/23/07 - 02:17:45 PM
Very reminiscent of Howie Beck - if you know who he is - but he's good and you two share a similar 70's foundation of graceful melodies and concise and tasteful instumentation, not always typical of that period. Enjoyed it much. only thing I found a bit out of place was the guitar solo, but take that with a grain of salt, since I've never included a decent guitar solo in one of my songs. Keep it up!!

Stunning &mdash 01/24/07 - 10:11:40 AM
Warm and fuzzy vibe almost immediately. The instrumental parts and harmonies were stratospherically good. Its so good I just need to close my eyes for a minute and breath slowly after it's over.
