e46 (4)minigurl (11)fall (19)rock (1142)acoustic (489) ()
Description:
A new tune that could have multiple meanings depending on what I'm thinking at any given time. I can even think of a few things right now! Anyway, find in it what you will. As always, comments are greatly appreciated (and so is any advice)!

Lyrics:
I bear the weight of two worlds upon my chest
They fight for the piece of nothing that I have left
We all have demons to be cast aside
I'll stay in my hell for someone else's pride

Tell me what you want to hear, and I can say it all
Tell me what you want to see, and I can do it all

Expectations that are too great for my find
Follow my hopes and dreams on someone else's time
You think you know me but do you know my soul
Do you know what makes me tick, makes me feel at home

Tell me what you want to hear, and I can say it all
Tell me what you want to see, and I can do it all
I'm standing here out on this ledge, please don't let me fall
Please don't let me fall

So I'll keep this secret life safe and locked away
Follow your footsteps until I'm led astray
And I'll pray that someday soon I'll abandon all my fears
Just hope I won't regret all these wasted years

Tell me what you want to hear, and I can say it all
Tell me what you want to see, and I can do it all
I'm standing here out on this ledge and please don't let me fall
I'm standing here out on this ledge and please don't let me fall
Please don't let me fall
Please don't let me fall

Nice lyrics! &mdash 01/21/07 - 12:00:56 AM
I really enjoyed the lyrics. I agree, there can certainly be multiple meanings to this.

For the comment. What does it mean to you? I actually love it when people that I know ask me what a song means. The truth is, it just sort of comes out as I'm fooling around on the guitar, and I always have to psychoanalyze myself to figure out what it means. Thanks for the listen!

I really love your sound &mdash 01/21/07 - 02:02:19 AM
Your singing is so great, guitar playing too, but you always hit notes so beautifully with your voice, that are so moving, right there in the chorus, and you really set yourself up for it!!! The lyrics are great too.

Thanks very much for the kind vocal comments. I wasn't sure about a couple of notes there, but I'm glad that you liked it! Thanks for the listen and comment

Hey you! &mdash 01/21/07 - 08:06:43 AM
This was a cool way to put together the song - the segments differed slightly, you have a nice bridge in there, and it all flows well. The harmony worked well too; not sure if I would move it ever so slightly toward center, but it still sounds nice. Good demonstration of talent in all the instruments as well.

I've been working on this tune for a while, and wanted to change things up a little here and there. My favourite part is the 3rd verse, with just some drums, a little guitar and such. Glad that it came out the way that I was hoping. Thanks for the listen and comment!

very cool &mdash 01/21/07 - 10:13:13 AM
your singing gets better and better. very soothing your style of singing. the only thing that struck me as a little off was the intro lead sounded out of tune but sometime artist do that to get a certian off qaulity to thier music, dont know if that is your intention it realy dont matter overall its a very good song. Oh yeah dont fall. LOL

Trying not to fall... &mdash 01/21/07 - 10:29:45 AM
Thanks for the comment ego. Not sure why it sounds off (the intro guitar part), it was tuned using the same tuner as everything else, and right before I laid down the track. I'll have to take another listen to it. Thanks for the listen!

great guitar sounds &mdash 01/21/07 - 10:31:00 AM
The guitars are blend just great...the mix is really good..
your singing is spot on!!!!!! If I may ask,,what Bass are you using?
seems to me (and its just me)that the bass could come up a tad.
or use a string bass,,, still a great song..good job...keep on rockin..
because thats where its at!!!!!

Thanks Musichead! &mdash 01/21/07 - 10:42:50 AM
The guitars were a lot of fun to lay down on this track. I've been trying to try a few new things here and there, and this is the end result. I can't remember which bass I used, it's a GB instrument though. Mixing/leveling the bass is something that I struggle with, so I'll give it a whirl at turning it up a notch.

Really nice lyrics &mdash 01/21/07 - 11:13:18 AM
and you sing them nice. Those dissonant guitar chords in the beginning almost made me go away.Glad I hung in there. You sang this really well. The simple guitar lead was well not inspiring, but the meat and star is those vocals and lyrics. My honest 2 cents!

Thanks for taking a listen. I agree with the lead guitar bit, but I'm still learning where lead lines are concerned. 3 months ago, I wouldn't have been able to do the simple lead that I did, so I'm coming along in baby steps. Thanks for the comment and for "hanging around" for the tune!

DIFFERENT &mdash 01/21/07 - 12:49:43 PM
those guitar chords clashing against each other set up a really cool, edgy mood that captures my ear's attention from the get go. your vocal is SO strong - it seems the perfect compliment to the backing music. i like the Please don't let me fall's - there's a vulnerablity to them that's very appealing. good sound! anne

You comment is greatly appreciated. I didn't want this to be all that "up" so come clashing chords it is! Thanks for the listen.

great tune &mdash 01/21/07 - 01:22:10 PM
your vocals are really good here. i liked the whole feel of this. as for the out of tune guitar. i'm suspecting (since you used a tuner) that it could a intonation problem. open strings are in tune but farther up the neck notes goes either flat or sharp. it's always something. nice work nice song!

Thanks for picking that up Vic... &mdash 01/22/07 - 09:13:34 AM
Inotation? (or however it's spelt). What exactly is that? Is it a simple fix?

thanks for the listen and comment!

only if you've done it before &mdash 01/22/07 - 10:29:24 PM
i would suggest taking it to a music store that does repairs and set ups. doesn't take long. its adjusting the saddles. for starters to to see if this is the problem. have your tuner on and pluck a artificial harmonic at the 12th fret of each string. (lightly putting your finger, barley touching) over the 12th fret. you should get a bell like tone. look at your tuner if it's showing higher that means the saddle(s) are to far forward. if below, saddles are to far back, most often there is a screw in back of the saddle behind the bridge. now moving these forward or backward will change the pitch at the 12th fret. when its right the tuner should show it as the same as the open string. this can also affect the string height. so those my need adjustment usually with a allen wrench.

this gives you an idea at least. but go with someone who can do this they can also set up the neck action to how you would prefer it. won't cost much. you're not replacing any parts. good luck

Thanks Vic! &mdash 01/23/07 - 02:44:11 PM
I'll definitely be taking the guitars into the shop to get them looked at, and set up properly. Thanks for the detailed description of what that meant. Cheers!

Everyone got here ahead of me... &mdash 01/21/07 - 03:59:21 PM
...so everything I'll say will be an echo, I think...

This is the second time that I've thought there was an out of tune quality in the guitars on one of your songs, so I'm inclined to go with Vic and say... time to get the axes intonated... Highly worth it... I think part of your instrumental sound IS to have a contrast between clean and dirty, but I think that slipping from tune actually works against that...

Your lyrics are terrific, and the song is melodically, lyrically and structurally strong. I like the way that you are working toward a mix of electric and acoustic guitars... I hear an echoing voice in my left headphone that I think wants to be stronger if it's going to be in there... I'm not sure if the bass wants/needs to be louder, per se, or just compressed and EQ'd a little differently...

Your vocal quality is getting both stronger, and more and more an identifiable m-girl/e46 "sound"... Don't be afraid to "lead" with that vocal sound as you construct your mix...

Always a pleasure...

Ed

As always thanks for such a great comment, and I have the utmost respect for what you have to say. I'll look into that guitar thing. I'm gaining some more confidence vocally, and I'm happy to see that coming through in what I'm posting. Thanks for the listen !

I like the whole construction &mdash 01/21/07 - 04:48:28 PM
of the song. I think this is Hit material. I loved the change into the chorus. Liked the way your guitars sound. Interesting subject matter relayed very well in the lyrics. Thanks for sharing.

OK &mdash 01/22/07 - 05:24:11 PM
Here's what I think!

I like the song and I hear were your going on it. It's got a cool catchy feel to it but I think you could sing this better. Maybe do another take. You have a cool voice.

I hear your voice in a Punk rock style setting. I would amp it up and get some heavy rippin punk geetars in there or maybe on future tracks.

The solo lead guitar is way off key. Does not sound good to me.

Just giving you honest feedback!

honest is always best! &mdash 01/22/07 - 05:32:18 PM
Thanks for the comment Doc. Apparently I have to do something to the guitar to get it to sound in tune. Inonation, something like that. Gonna have to look into that. Maybe I'll give it a whirl on my other guitar, see if that changes things. Then again, maybe I should just get someone to do a lead line, who actually knows what they are doing!

This is a really well put together song. It reminds of someone I can't quite remember that I really like... I especially like the little guitar bits that come in throughout the song. Top stuff. I likes it a lot.
Off to listen to more of your songs now.

yup! &mdash 01/22/07 - 05:34:48 PM
The lead guitar is way out of tune; it could be a number of things, like you need to have it set-up by a luthier as has been suggested, and that would fix the intonation, perhaps. I don't think a Wensen is a very expensive guitar, and a setup might cost more than the guitar. Or it could be just be if you are using light strings and you are bending the strings as you press them down, then you will be out of tune. It's a feel thing and it's overcome with practice. Listening to how the note comes out as you are playing and changing your finger pressure will help, or simply using heavier strings. If you change the weight of your strings to heavier strings, that can sometimes set the neck off, and the guitar will have to be setup, but usually not.
As to the rest of the song, well I think it's pretty good. Your voice reminds me of the early Danielle Howle at times, or maybe even Amy Ray.

Thanks... &mdash 01/22/07 - 05:42:54 PM
For the insight on the guitar thing. I'll have to get it looked at, I was using the Epiphone for the lead line, and I've had that guitar for years, so it's probably in need of a set up by now anyway.

LOVED your latest tune by the way!

Nice &mdash 01/22/07 - 05:40:33 PM
Cool tune, E. Sounds like a nice acoustic number with a backing electric band... holding back and allowing the acoustic sound to dominate. Sure the guitar leads sound kind of sour; it didn't bother me, I thought it sounded unique. I like your singing, only wishing that you put a little more power into some of the lines. Nice work, e46!

Vocals are something that I'm definitely working on to say the least. Trying to have more confidence in that area, and power. Practice, practice, practice! Thanks for the comment and listen.

Hmm... my thoughts... &mdash 01/23/07 - 12:38:45 PM
straight from the hip: OK, I remember you said you WANTED the opening guitar to wobble and sound woozy... but it just sounds out of tune or badly played, which is a turn-off right away. So, what if instead, you started playing the opening lick straight, then on the last few notes, let it start to fall apart? That might be better.

Also, I think between the first stanza, and the opening line of the chorus "Tell me what you want to hear"... I think there should be one bar of just guitar & drums, to let that last sentence simmer before bonking us with the chorus... don't rush it, let it eat at us a little.

Also on the chorus, the second voice just doubles your notes... you may want to do a harmony instead. But the second voice is a cool addition, although a little soft.

Another song destined for greatness, I like how it is coming along, thus the critiques :-)

ttfn,
Drakonis

Me again &mdash 01/25/07 - 03:12:51 PM
After commenting about how I thought your vox need some reverb on "Damaged Goods," you nailed the sound I wanted to hear on this one. I thought the lead guitar sounded a little out of tune. All together, another fine tune.
