Description:
A song inspired by Mira Aroyo, my favorite Ladytron lady. That's her in the picture (which I borrowed from their website).

Lyrics:
Electric Stars

Driving through the night,
the minutes turned to hours.
It seemed like we might
never quite arrive.
When we saw the signs,
we knew the night was ours,
and this could be
the best time of our lives.

She sang beneath electric stars,
her fingers swam across the keys.
We danced and everything was fine.

Wish you could have seen,
wish you could have felt.
I wish you could have been
the one with me that night.
When the lights grew dim,
when synthesis began,
we were cast under a spell
of sounds and sights.

Once I got the e-mail that you posted something I had to get on here and listen. This sounds great! Is that your voice there? You got such a gift, I hope you know that. This is so well put together. It has everything a song is supposed to have. Bravo!! ;-)

Means a lot coming from you, Linda. That is my voice, I had to tinker with it a bit for it to pass for singing! I feel good about how this one came together, so I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for listening and commenting!

COOL TRACK JACK! &mdash 01/21/07 - 07:48:51 PM
I dig the early Depeche Mode feel here! Has a cool english feel to it! Love it reminded me of roller skating parties in the 80's! Nice Job! You are truly a member of the breakfast club now!

Cool pop! &mdash 01/21/07 - 11:25:36 PM
I like the dancy rhythm of this song and its pop appeal. You sing this quite well. Some harmonies could have enhanced it in certain areas, and in my opinion, a more pronounced bass and drum could have given it more oomph. But overall, it is an irresistable tune that makes you feel like hitting the dance floor.

Hey Leon, thanks for listening and commenting. I think you're right about adding some harmonies. I'm going to revisit it and see if I can come up with anything good, singing is not one of my strengths. I was happy to be able to hit the notes on this one! Anyway, I really appreciate your thoughts.

Back to the 80ies &mdash 01/22/07 - 04:27:29 AM
As said before a very well done retro song with a "European" electropop feeling. Your voice (that reminds me sonehow of Marc Almond) fits very well the song. Thanks for taking twenty years back to the (good) old 80ies.

80s revival &mdash 01/22/07 - 09:12:48 AM
Hey Sergio, there seems to be something in the air, even *I* just posted an 80's synthy thing... how funny! This is really amazing work, sounds right off the radio, very polished. I might not have used the little high-pitched swirly sfx quite so often, just a few times, but other than that, this is a great music bed, super singing, takes me back!

Euro pop ...... &mdash 01/22/07 - 03:10:47 PM
...... in the best possible way :) Reminiscent of Iva Davies (Icehouse). Vox sounds good - agree the occasional harmony would have lifted it a little. Synthy fun.

Wow, this sounds great! Yep, agree with others: VERY 80's. You should hook up with Mr. Boris Luxx for a collab. You two have a very similar aesthetic. I think the vocals sound very nice here, Sergio. The only thing I'd do is bring them up in the mix. No need to be so hesitant. you sound good, dude!

i love the 80s, but... &mdash 01/25/07 - 01:31:12 PM
Thank you to all of you for listening and commenting. Many of you have mentioned that this song is very 80s, which is to me a high compliment. In fact, there's been so much talk of the 80s in these comments that the ads at the top of the page look like this:
Ads by Google 80S Music 80S Songs 80's Metal Disco 80's The 80's
Some of you have heard my other songs and have noticed that I definitely love the 80s. However, I think I need to move forward a little bit as I would like to do something newer, something more innovative, but something that still uses the old style synth sounds.
So, the question for you guys is: what would you do to this particular song to make it sound more like the 2000s? What would you add and take away?
Don't feel obligated to comment, I'm just curious. Thanks a lot again, it means the world to me that you would take the time to listen and comment.
-Sergio

Well-Crafted &mdash 01/26/07 - 02:56:55 AM
First of all there isn't anything to change. It is good the way it sounds and your arrangement and production is excellent.

If you want to reduce the 1980's sound I would remove the pinball synth, give the drums a different sound and change your voice either to a higher register, or a more melodic rendition. The drums sound like a drum machine which is very '80's.

An acoustic rhythm guitar would give it a more organic feel. You might also double the wah-wah synth with a piano, or a non-synth, more traditional instrument; perhaps an organ. I would also suggest a bass guitar or acoustic bass setting to remove more synth.

Having said that, if you left it the way it is it would still be touching and bittersweet. There is nothing wrong with the current arrangement.

Great &mdash 01/26/07 - 10:55:22 AM
Very good melody and arrngement, and also performance. Personally I love the sound, the almost drum machine sounding drums (I would perhas even take down the drums at some instances to give them a real retro touch of old skool drum machines) - but other than that it's a very good song... If given any other tips: Perthaps bring in a second vocalist on the chorus (either your own voice in a higher pitch), or somebody you know or collaborate with somebody here on MACJAMS and try to power the chorus a little bit, either in the mix, or by adding more instruments. I would NOT try to work on taking away the 80's influences since they work perfect as is. Great song. /Mikki

80s revival &mdash 02/06/07 - 04:42:09 PM
Hello mr Secamode,

Linda pointed me to u on the other GB site. I like that song a lot. But now about this song, huh?!
I think your songwriting is good. Although it seems singers that produce tracks put their voices too much upfront, i can almost infer u are a producer that doesnt sing that much, cos it is kinda too low. Your voice is good enough to be on more tracks, but do crank up that volume just a notch. I really really dig the 80s feel, very friendly. It says a lot about you. I hope more songs were put out like yours. Friendly, comforting and good enough to dance to or listen to (while having some good old fashioned...errr. tea;).
It reminds me of a lot of songs from back then. I love the game sound it has, mind you those nifty eighties games were game play ruled the market (and not mere graphics) and the feel of an entire song was more important than what i tend do, pound your ears with freaked out sounds. Soothing is the right word, i guess. Keep em coming mr, with your voice!

Thanks &mdash 02/07/07 - 01:17:28 AM
I really appreciate you taking the time to listen and write such thoughtful comments. You're right, I tend to keep the vocals a little bit behind in the mix. No matter how hard I try, or how loud I think they are, I end up giving into insecurities about my voice and letting the vocals blend in too much. Well, it's a work in progress, for sure! I'm so glad you liked it!
