Description
Started with a soft brush drum and evolved to an up beat big band riff with modern sounds.
I had fun with it and is more uplifting than a lot of my stuff. Please comment to let me know if this old thang works for you MJers.

great vibe
cant put my finger on it but its modern jazz a little 80's new wave. its driving and hold a good back beat. my only suggestion would be to break it up a bit. I hear that roland at work. Enjoyed this one

thanx
I am always wondering if the straight drum off the old drum dr is to monotonous now that we can cut up and do so much with the GB loops.
Maybe i think about it too much.
Thank you for checking it out.
thanks for the comment.

Intriguing
Several of your parts are rather improvisatory. So the drum rather sticks out. Especially halfway, when the bass drops out and you get the more freaky melody lines, I was really expecting the drum to get a bit wilder too.

Overall this is quite adventurous. I really like it.

Improvisatory is true
I know the drums in here can get to be a bit monotonous, but at the time the drums i used were boss dr rhythm 770. It was one of the pre set rhythms. I am in love with GB for this reason. Is so easy to mix it up and change dynamics with the punch of the drums. I use to program my own but this tune i just kinda knocked together. Thank you for commenting and I will check out your stuff as soon as I get a chance.
Yes very improvisatory, just about 100%.
Fun time for me.

inventive
It sounds like you had a fun time playing around with this infectuous melody. I like the widely divergent sounds swirling around. I guess I have to agree with other commentators the the drum track doesn't have the same character as the other instruments - that is, it never changes, where everything else is in flux. Thus, it becomes a metronome keeping time rather than another voice dancing in the jazz mix. When the metronome quits, the song just fades away. Nonetheless, it's an inventive dance for the ears - very likeable to listen to.

Thanks for checking in.
I'm thinking i will re-do this tune now that I have the GB drum loops and i can mix it up and midi some real time drums into it. I don't usualy like to re do something that was put to bed...but I am re-thinking that mentality. You all seam to think the melody has merrit and I always thought it was catchy. Lets see ...give me some time and I'll re-do.
Thanks for your support.

How did you record this?
Curious. What is a Roland workstation? Very inventive and creative. Unusual combination of sounds in the beginning, very interesting and beautiful. For the rest of the piece I would recommend a strong bass guitar or something that balances the drums and grounds the different layers. But this definitely sounds like you had a lot of fun playing this piece! Good energy for sure.

your guitar playing
is a treat to listen to. I love the sound you get from that strat of yours.

The mix with the roland gives an interesting contrast. Sounds like you had some fun making this:)

Thanks thoddi
Comming from you I take that as a huge complement, as I am a fan of your guitar playing

You have a great nack for blending all the coolest riffs and you got great soul in your voice.

I have many vacal songs but i don't have the nerve to post them. I have to master GB a bit more so i can get a good sound.
What setting do you like to use if you don't mind me asking.

Thank you for checking in.

well
Man, you are a good guitar player and you absolutely have the right touch!

Thank you for the nice compliments:)

If you ask me about the settings for vocals in garageband, I use a "no effect" track, and then tweak the eq 'till I'm happy with it. I have saved my own presets that will be right for the different microphones I use.

I use the "simple" eq choice and usually don't go for the more advanced options. Try listen to each frequency as you speak/sing while tweaking. I think the easiest part is adjusting the bass and tremble. The mid areas are more tricky.

If you're happy with one of the presets, you could try alter one of those to see if you think any goodness comes out of it. Finally you can save it as your own preset.

I add some reverb (about 1/3 of full amount) and a dash delay (approx 2-3/10 of full amount)

Hope this helps:)

Have fun!

Yes
Thank you for getting back to me. I knew about saving presets but have not been doing it. I don't know why, but I will take your advice and save the ones I like. This should save conciderable time. I find when I have to mess around with too much settings and such that insperation can disapear. Insperation is so important to any music, its where it all comes from.

Thanx thoddi

u like what i like...
i'm thinking u like McLaughlin, Miles' last stuff, & Bill Evans (Sax).

Which is cool, bcuz I believe John is one of a VERY few that are carrying on the tradition of Jazz, which is to EXPLORE.

And of course, the tradition of NOTRADITION
(sorry, I couldn't resist!)

Excellent trak...
