Description:
A little song for a little girl,
from a grand-father...

Lyrics:
depuis le bourgeon / from the bud
ce fruit de la passion / this fruit of passion
sur le thème jupon / on a feminine mode
me donne émotion / gives me emotion

comme une cendrillon / like a Cinderella
de l’amour à foison / love in abundance
son regard hameçon / her glance as a hook
m’accroche me confond / catches me confuses me

comme un petit rat / like a young ballet pupil
des ballets d’opéra / from the opera
devant les caméras / in front of the cameras
donne ses premiers pas / shows her first steps

petit papillon / small butterfly
qui voltige à tatons / that feels her way along
vertige de jouvence / giddiness of youth
fontaine d'insouciance / fountain of freedom from care

comme une bulle de savon / as a bubble of soap
qui s’étire aux rayons / that stretches in the beams
d'un nouveau soleil / of a new sun
lorsque tu t’éveilles / when you wake up

tes gestes tes soupirs / your gestures your sighs
ton pays du sourire / your land of smile
toi qui illumine / you who illuminates
toi Clémentine / you Clémentine

could come up a little
the funny thing is since i do not speak french, your vocal becomes like a instrument, that's probably why i refered to this as a lullaby. yes they can come up a little but not much. believe it or not i'm a grand dad as well. luckiy for me i look and act 10 years younger.

Gainsbourg...
Cette voix et ces intonations me rappellent Serge Gainsbourg... Et le texte est excellent.
Clémentine a bien de la chance !

I don't know exactly what Rosita said because I don't speak any French, but I think I agree. Your voice has the sober yet caring sound of Gainsbourg's. I'm a fan.

I want to chime in here with the SG crowd. This reminds me very much of the French master. Beautiful take on the blues lullaby.

From one grandfather ....
.... to another, a lovely song. I love the way French lyrics seem to be able to draw out special moods from a piece of music. From a production point of view, I'd possibly raise the volume on your vocals a little, but otherwise this works really well. Clémentine is a lucky little girl to have such a pretty song written about her.
Merci,
Neil

Hello Grandfather
Thanks Neil for your comment. I'm happy to read you.
I agree totally with you about the production, the level of the voice is too low and I realized this problem after my post here, too late...
I have to blame my disloyal headphone (trash tomorrow)... and me.
Thank you again Neil.

Well done !
For me, your better song to this day. Great singing, in a national tradition held by guys like Gainsbourg or Daho. Sweet arrangements, bit old-fashionned keyboards and drums, but the charm is here, the melody really beautiful. Beautiful texture in the voice. J'aime.

Merci
Ceci dit, ton commentaire me rassure, merci encore...

What a cool grandfather!
You and Neil Porter (jiguma) are going to get along just fine!

Once again, great heart... Has an almost Leonard Cohen feel in the delivery...

Your time continues to be great... So all the relatively simple parts fit together seamlessly... I love the bass notes against the piano... I could perhaps hear bringing up the nice arpeggiated chords from what I think is your guitar in the right speaker...

Well, Marc... time to make sure that I don't miss any more of your work...

I see that your family is already letting you know what a cool father/grandfather you are... Even an 'outsider' has to say that this is obvious...

Ed
blaky smith said 884 days ago (February 1st, 2007)
Obvious !
I find the sense of this word, thank you my dictionary...
And I'm glad you love this song. Once again, thank you very much Ed for your opinion and your nice comment. The third today, you are too kind !
It's encouraging for a grandfather which is learning to play music !
Thanks again...

ce fruit de la passion
I don't speak French, but I think I get the meaning of that sentence. I think it can be said about your grandchild, but also your passion for making music.

And from passion comes great art. Like this song. Beautiful work Marc:)

Soothing...
Lovely arrangement Marc. Nice vocal delivery. I wish I had a translation of the lyrics. (To my great shame I flunked French in High School.) I really like the organ playing in the middle. Restrained yet effective. Yes...don't be ashamed of your fine singing voice...it CAN come up a little. Bravo!

Be well!

Full of emotion (lyrically and musically) and the words are sweet. I love the keyboard sounds. I like that organ coming in. I would increase the level of your vocal a little, and maybe pull the harpsichord up a little as well. But what do I know? This is full of soul. Nice work.

Bonjour Marc
Je vous remercie beaucoup. Je suis illumine! (and that would be about all the French I remember from l'ecole! :-) ) Your song for Clementine is one of the most poignant songs I have ever heard! Your voice is incredibly, "romance language" beautiful! And your lyrics gave me a new perspective full of wonderful light - very poetic and full of insight. I am lost in the moments of your music! Thank you so much for your avatar on my page - I am so honored!!!

touching
Sweet, tender and emotional. The song and arrangement are simple and allow for the emotion of the lyrics to shine through. I don't agree with you that you think the vocals are too low. I think they are about right. You could add a low-cut filter and that would (by cutting out low frequencies that are battling the other lows in the song) separate your vocals and make them more apparent without your having to increase the volume. Just a thought. Nice song. Thank you also for your past comments on my songs....
Best,
Philip
