Wire Tap

Description
Dear Mr. President,
I am afraid I don’t understand. You say that you need the power to continue to conduct warrantless wire taps to PRESERVE our freedom. But it seems to me that the bill of rights says something about what our freedoms are and that the 4th amendment says that we have the right to be secure in our persons, houses, papers and effects against warrantless searches. Is it your contention that you can preserve our freedom by taking away one of our basic freedoms? Is this the kind of logic they teach at Yale? If that is the kind of education you got at that fancy school, I’m glad I went to a state school.

I'm angry too
The mood of this piece fits your explanation very well. How did you do the lead synth? It almost sounds like it comes through a talkbox....

Thanks Vic
I don't remember the exact setting but the sound of the "talking" comes from a synth texture that is part of a bundle I have. I emphasized the effect with the way I "played" the part on my Mac keyboard and with some mods to the synth setting. When I was investigating the bundle, I came across this effect and knew I wanted to write a piece using it.
I also feel strongly about our government violating our basic rights and denying human rights across the world, and this song is my very small statement of protest.

i think the lines are bugged
no wait, thats the synth filter effect. comes off very well. has a little espionage beat going on. done to get effect as your story goes. i wonder if theres any sound bites out there to slip in. like you did a few weeks back on one of your different tunes. funny how a different president in the past got shown the back door for wiretapping. i wonder what has gone wrong. cool tune.

Thanks Vic
I always appreciate you stopping by and always appreciate the fact that your comments indicate that you truly listen closely.
I thought about putting some "real" voices in this someplace and may play with it in the future but my original concept was to be more obscure with the "voices" because I don't believe the government will really "hear" anything useful by massive warrentless wiretaps. All they will do is get bogged down in listening rather than spending time analyzing. We had all the information we needed to prevent the 9/11 attacks ... we just didn't use it!

this works
i can imagine huge farms of supercomputers filtering through millions of phone calls looking for keywords...

the synths fit the premise excellently! nice tune - thanks

Thanks for the comment
I wonder what the keywords would be...and in what language. Someday it will come to that.

Maybe that is what you are working on in your real job .... ;-)

.
from things i've read, this is already actually being done today on phone calls and internet traffic. i too wonder what the keywords would be. plutonium? C4? infidels? did this post trigger something somewhere?

we are in trouble
We may be in trouble because we triggered a keyword and we may be in trouble because the gov't can do such a thing. Some things are too easy to do on computers, and the computers have no good judgement so they are dangerous in that regard. ( Come to think of it there are a lot of people in the administration that have no good judgement either).
