Description:
A Scandinavian collab between me an Cori Ander. Johannes put out a lovely guitar piece called "feel free to..." and offered it up for free if someone felt like playing along to it... I couldn't resist, could I...

Well, here it is. Big thanks to Johannes for letting me jam to it:)

I took the photo a couple of years ago. It's from a lake near by my place.

what comparison &mdash 01/28/07 - 08:12:16 AM
Pink Floyd meets Santana... that is flattering if this leads you to think of such names from listening to this:)

FABULOUS &mdash 01/27/07 - 11:32:59 AM
that was a well constructed pleasure! the long intro morphed into so many unexpected sonic images, ii kept me fascinated. and just when i thought it would take off, it would dissolve into something else - a tasty tease for the take off at 1:43. ahhhhhh! excellent job of transitioning between the different sections, taking time to do so. good percussion, especially after the 3 minute mark. WELL DONE! anne

Wow &mdash 01/27/07 - 07:21:21 PM
Its like Ralf Towner meet Carlo Santana. This is a great sound. Who played base. Love the sound of the strat. the strat sound comes thru real nice. And some of the chords on the acoustic are so well placed. Gotta love the energy in collabs.
Thanx to both.

Tim

base... &mdash 01/28/07 - 08:29:31 AM
I haven't listened much to Ralph Towner but checked him out... wonderful classic guitar... just like Cori:)
Being compared to Carlos isn't exactly bad either... Thank you for that:)

I agree about that there is extra energy in collabs. I get myself by the neck to do a little extra effort when others are involved I guess. But there is also something about different energies floating and meeting. Making all music on your own will never get that bonus.

And about who played base... well Cori laid the base for this, while I played the bass guitar;)

Awesome .. &mdash 01/28/07 - 03:43:52 AM
.. love this. Great result. Kudos to you both. Two great styles and guitar tones in the melting pot. The electric is very Floyd like. You can certainly get lost in this .. and those woods too .. as you do .. ;o)

Excellent work Thor and Curry! &mdash 01/28/07 - 06:28:05 AM
Thor, I heard Curry's post of "feel free to" and was very tempted to have a crack at it - very glad I didn't. This is very well done, and shows a number of things: Curry can play more than what we've been led to believe; you are a very talented muso Thor and; there's more to Scandinavian music than ABBA. Great sounds you've made with a really excellent bottom line from Curry.
Very nice indeed.
Peace,
Neil

Excellent reading Neil:) &mdash 01/28/07 - 12:07:00 PM
Thanks Neil. I think it would be very interesting hearing what you had come up with. That's what's so great about music. The guitar track from curry invites to many differt styles and would do good in several combinations.

I say fo for it:)

Something else.... &mdash 01/28/07 - 07:45:48 AM
Just super what you have worked in to this. When I listened to curry's a while back, I pondered what timing would go, how could it be done... You have mastered this well and it is a great jam - nice work Thor.

timing &mdash 01/28/07 - 12:14:57 PM
I played the drums tapping my keyboard, so I felt it wasn't that hard getting in the groove doing it that way.

Thank you for dropping by Harold. Always a treat seeing you've been listening:)

Okay... enough waiting.... &mdash 01/28/07 - 10:03:17 PM
When I first heard this, my comment to Curry was that people were going to hear echoes of Gilmour and Santana...

This is great, right from that first "yeah" and the first bass notes...

I love the blend here between the nylon string and the electric guitar...

Love the tone on everything, everything, everything...

My only mini-crit is that I'm getting whispers of overload distortion when you really dig into the electric, thoddi... Couple dB less hot would probably leave it cleaner...

This is really a dream collab for this listener... a really terrific, very real and feeling-full meeting of two guitar-masters... you guys keep it in the realm of music... never feels like showing off... always feels like something musical is going on....

I am also envious of that misty picture... a very beautiful graphic....

All around excellent....

Ed

The waiting was not in vain &mdash 01/29/07 - 02:07:29 PM
Well, in all modesty I hoped for a Santana/Floyd'ish mood. And I'm very pleased noticing that some have commented on that:)

I'm afraid that 'a little hot recording' is a quite accurate description. I had some communication back and forth with curry regarding that. I had some trouble at my end, and have now figured out, after a explanatory forum post about high levels in GB.

From now on, hopefully my recordings should be a distortion free area.

I have to say I enjoy when you say 'you guys keep it in the realm of music':)

Thanks a lot Ed!

Thank you Thor!!! &mdash 01/29/07 - 04:35:05 AM
After one of the most hectic weekends in my life I finally have time to comment ..

You have lifted the original track from something nice to something great! Credits go to you for a major part of what we hear here.

You have added so much great stuff and I so much enjoy listening to this .. the adding of different moods including the latin touch. I never had any concious associations to latin for the original but you have chiseled it out, it was there all the time.

Thank you also for you enthisiastic and optimistic drive in getting it done. Collabing with you has been a dream. All I had to was giving comments on succedingly better versions, and boom, there was the next one. MacJams is fantastic.

You have produced an end reslult that I am greatly proud of being part of! Thank you Thor!!!

Thank you Cori Ander:) &mdash 01/29/07 - 02:13:01 PM
The original track is very inviting in my ears. And it felt natural for me to play along to it.

I hope others will make versions of this with different interpretations. Would be fun to hear.

And I am also greatly proud of being part of this! Thank you Johannes!

Beautiful collab gentlemen. Evocative...in that the music seems to fit the picture like a glove. Curry's piece was good as it was, but Thor you have taken it higher! excellent electric lead work!

Be well!

omg &mdash 02/01/07 - 05:05:06 PM
that very subtle B3 thread that gets spinning from the very start! its absolutely the best. I haven't read all the other comments but I'm sure someone's mentioned Floyd. Perhaps even more specific David Gilmore. I love what you have done. Cori's original track was most excellent in its crossover attraction (it covered so much ground), but your imagination with this, is simply awesome. Can I use that word here?

Damn this is good &mdash 02/01/07 - 10:32:55 PM
Glad I stopped by. I'm just humbled by some of the music I hear at MJ and this cut has me bowing low. Great acoustic/electric mix/trade - reminds me a little of Oregan and other Ralph Towner projects - also the Dave Gilmore ref is warranted. I'd add a young brilliant guitarist to the mix - Derek Trucks. Great collab guys.
