Very nice Pengy... It takes real talent to combine those
loops... I can't do it!

I love the sounds of the horns, and the mix of the piano
and percussion. Like the break in the middle, with the
violin sounds. It almost sounds like an ethnic folk sound
through that section. I think the production is top notch,
the composition quite creative, don't know what to make
of the performance since I don't know what you did. I
think there's almost an argument for "modern classical"
here. Nicely done. 8:9:8:8. Oh wait a minute, this is
Penguinsocks?? 1:2:1:1. Just kidding! ;)
penguinsocks
thanks!
shh don't give it away! lol...
actually it's a... ok see here's where i agree that we shouldn't see the
comments.. it's a "nordic keyed fiddle." but, a violin, really. heh.
i actually didn't play any real instruments on here. i tried with my guitar but i
can't play that fast. i did punch in some notes on the virtual keyboard though,
to give some background oomph in sustained notes. i recorded brief vocals
but they were crappy so.
LOL. very funny :P

Cute piece, but I did feel that certain elements
seemed out of place? Started as something in the
funk/jazz world, then dropped into Ireland for some
drinkin' and step dancing.
penguinsocks
i laughed my head off when that nordic keyed fiddle fit. i think it still has too
much of the "That's Bossa" kit loop and the congas to be truly irish. cute?
haha.. thanks.

Nice piece. Many divergent elements, but well put
together.
The one tiny thing that makes me slightly
uncomfortable is 25% of the way through where the
trumpets come in for a couple of loops, they seem to be a
beat or two late when compared to the piano and
percussion they are accompanied by. The first 'parp', all
on its own is a retarded, but that's still comfortable, in the
way a musician will slightly bend the timing. But then,
when the trumpets come back for that series of 6 notes, it
just feels to late to my ears.
7-7-7-7
penguinsocks
hmm well i checked to make sure the trumpet loop started on the beat. it
does. i listened and except for one listen where something happened in my
head, it sounded fine to me... *listens again* you know, i think it's cos the
sound fades in slightly. cos if listen and tap when it SHOULD come in that's
where it does.

A crossover between Acoustic Alchemy and Bela Fleck with a beans'n'rice spice. The pentatonic bells at the end were a bit to much Chinese to my taste, but hey, it's all god fun.
penguinsocks
thanks
actually, the loop is called asian gamelan. they are bells, sort of, but they're
indonesian, not chinese. learned that yesterday.
i meant for it to sound like a dream and it was supposed to be different.

I told you already, this song is more jazz/salsa. When i
first heard it i expected big synths and quick think drum
beats, but when i heard this, i genre i usually don't turn to
for music, i was pleasently suprised. If this is just loops,
its a great coming together of what can be done with
garageband's loops by themselves. "i wish to do a song
like this".
penguinsocks
thanks dude! :)
yep, all loops save for a bit of plunking in some strings and editing a 4-bar
section of the piano loops.

Egh... You've done better. Not that I don't stink myself
(which I'm pretty sure I do)...but this is not your best
work.
What else was I gonna say? Ummm... oh yeah! Uh, you're
still pretty cool anyway; and a great musician.
Maybe next one I'll like a lot, like a couple of those other
ones.
penguinsocks
heh... i know. lol you don't stink - you've got awesome stuff!
thanks fosod :)
i've got two in the works that may not be your style but they're not loops
based. :D oh, and i sing in it...

Just call it "An Irishman in Cuba" and everything fits well
;-)
Nice tune.

The Nordic fiddle and the bossa drums are an inspired
mix, you minx, wish I'd thought of it. Why not ditch the
Cubana mix at the start and go straight in with the
Irishman in Havana thang?
Also, everything seems mixed front-dead-centre. Try a
little space.
Content: 8 (for the Nordic/bossa x/over)
Production: 6 (lift and separate!)
Originality: 10 (for.. well, originality, really)
Overall: 9
penguinsocks
lol thanks
wow talk about chalk and cheese... first i'm a talking penguin and now i'm a
minx? huh.
yeah uh i was just kinda too lazy to pan stuff. heh. you should hear what i
have in the works! *grin*

i used that same riff back in march. its interesting how
different it sounds.
i'll have to post that one some time.
good work.

Happy is the thing. Me likey. It's perfectly you.
Funny,
I did that nordic fiddle thing some ten years ago for
a new World order Safe sampling CD. I knew it
eventually ended up in Garageband, but I haven't
heard anybody using it. Actually it IS a nordic keyed
fiddle but originally recorded i Dminor. So what's a
keyed fiddle anyway. Have a look (link from my

Cute piece, I'm impressed with your ability to sling the
loops together.
Nice use of loops. I don't feel that there is anything that ties it all together
though. Perhaps a discernable melody would do the trick. Overall not a bad
listen.
MidiMacMan.
penguinsocks
thank you iseae
