Offensively Mellow

Description
I've been busy making a robot and trying some collaborations and I realized I haven't posted a song in ages.
This is an all Pease combo, no drums. I recorded it last string.
The title is inspired by an email conversation with Cipher, where I threatened to make one of his tunes offensively mellow.
Sit back and enjoy.

Loved the title!
Very mellow but not at all offensive. I feel cheated :-)

Cheers

Hah! Great title!
Hey Bill, nice work here. But I honestly didn't find it all that offensive! LOL! Just GROOOOOOOVACIOUS...and that's a GOOD thing. Nice tone on those electronic ivories.

Be well!

excellent
You know I dont smoke the cheeba anymore but this is sure to bring it to mind.(in a good way). I just wish it was longer.
peacepiano said 1009 days ago (February 4th, 2007)
Thanks
Longer...sounds like a Spring project. The trick will be keeping the spontaneous feel in the playing when the piece is longer and more intentional. Glad you enjoyed it.

summer evening
so laid back... like a warm summer evening. i can hear the crickets now.

nice mood.

my only complaints are two: some of the notes on the Rhodes(?) seem too "mulcted" if you know what i mean.

and the use of the flattened fifth (i've heard this called the "blue" note) needs a bit more subtlety: it's ok as a passing tone, or stressed for emphasis (and probably other things, i'm no expert!). but somehow here it just hangs out. i'm at a loss to explain the problem, but it doesn't sound right to my ears. hopefully someone might be able to explain it more fully...

despite that, i like it.
thanks

Thanks
You make some interesting points.

The "mushing" together of some of the notes is fairly intentional, but may be a little out of place in an otherwise clean mellow setting.

The flats on the "Rhodes" are also intentional and sound pretty good to me, but they may be jarring you because of how they interact with the bass.

The bass is where I hear the biggest flaws, and that may be why the song got bombed. I will never know because the bomber left no advice for improvement. Improvising the bass was definitely risky.

Thanks for the careful listen. I always learn something from your comments :)

mulct
i don't think mulct is the word i was casting about for. i'm searching now. it's the idea of mashing together a bunch of notes almost to the point of hitting them simultaneously... what the heck *is* that word?

Taxi
Elec. piano reminds me of the theme from "Taxi" by Bob James.

You've got a lot of talent in those fingers. Keep posting!

Sounds like you're having fun. Thanks for sharing.

Taxi
Hi John,
The Taxi theme is a great song, thanks.
Now that a good amount of my original stuff is up it will be longer between new postings, but I will keep pounding the keys.
And speaking of postings, I haven't heard a tune from you in a while :)

you're right
Yes, you're right, I have not posted in awhile. I am working on my second CD now, and I am also busy with many other projects (including being musical director for a local theater group's production of "Godspell").

But I hope to post something in the next few weeks.

With my first CD, I posted just about everything on the CD before it came out for sale. This time around, I am still going to post sample tracks from the CD, but I'm going to space them out a little more.

Regards,

John

That's it!
I am offended. You didn't keep the syncopation in the chords that was so freakin' nifty about half way through the tune.

It's still groovy, anyway.

Always happy to offend if it will get a helpful comment from someone. Seriously I do appreciate the comment about the chords, I listened again and it got me thinking about how I could make the next song better.
