Song Description

As we dance, we constantly discover new opportunities.

The important thing is to dance.

What we dance to is secondary at best.

Couldn't agree with you more &mdash 01/28/07 - 11:12:23 AM
Nice update of the Kraftwerk vibe - like the tonalities and complexity of the sequences - then the break into free piano is awesome - wish i could play like that.

Piano solos! &mdash 01/28/07 - 09:49:12 PM
The piano lead in the middle and at the end caught me by surprise, pleasantly so. There's a human in that electro-band! I'm not huge into club music, but this one got my toes tapping and avoided the unpleasant and ostentatious sound "blats" that so many composers and DJs sprinkle throughout dance music. Nice piece of work.

a little playful sabotage &mdash 01/28/07 - 10:54:08 PM
thanks for noticing that piano - yup, i did actually play that odd little riff, although i needed to snap the timing afterwards. no notes were rearranged or pitches shifted (which is not always the case). all the rest of this song is made of seriously mutated GB loops (which i consider a valid artform BTW).

i like exploring the vast musical landscape - check out some of my other tunes if you have a chance.

and i really enjoyed your comment about "a human in that electro-band" -- somedays i feel like a wooden shoe in the machinery. somedays i am.

Sweet &mdash 01/29/07 - 12:31:37 AM
I like the textures and the odd key choices. Good stuff with a persistant quality that works for this. Nice full mix.

this song was done gradually a few minutes at a time, scattered over a few weeks. it's an accretion of whims. i kept thinking i should move it to the trashcan, but kepting fiddling with it. that piano thing was added way near the end for spice. then i got some tips about using the multiband compressor, did a final mix, and viola!

thanks

Ravin' &mdash 03/22/07 - 09:11:04 AM
Nice frenetic ostinato keyboard work. The percussion track has a nice steady beat, but reminds me of exercise tape stuff and I imagined it if a real drummer were playing along with your cool keys and thought a lot more would have been added with a hipper cooler drum track. It has a great Ecstasy vibe.

well, i must admit i have ADD when it comes to percussion. sometimes i really get into it and start crafting every snare hit, but usually i treat drums at a higher level and just mix (edited) loops to get the effect i want. i am no drummer.

i must also admit that when i wrote this song i was in a large funk. not the musical style funk, but the "dejected mood" kind. i was in the "everything is worthless" kind of funk. that's where the title ultimately originated.

but, always enjoying a pun, if you start with the idea of throwing out garbage on a Mac is done via "Move To Trash" - i began to work on the idea that we can always revert to our more basic emotional rhythmic visceral animal selves - the idea of simply moving (dancing) to trash (whatever junk is available) became set in my mind.

so, over a few weeks, i darkly assembled some stuff that i felt (at the time) was intellectually barren but fun to wiggle to. and i kept layering it. maybe it's a way to find inner energy even when you've got none left. maybe it was a mockery of some sort? of myself? of music?

i usually do some googling on my subject matter, so this time it was dancing. the result is that link up above. i saw light in that. maybe there really is some meaning after all. maybe i was emerging from my funk too. so i fixed up this song a little, and it was done.

thanks for inviting me in, and letting me lie on your couch for a few minutes.
