Lyrics
The Kleins on The Hill
The rain is beating on the window
As daylight slips away
An empty house - there’s no one there now
They all left yesterday
A chill wind’s ripping through the trees
They forgot to tie the gate
And each and every time it swings
You wonder why they’re late
What has become
Of the Kleins on the hill
God speed their return
When this howling wind’s still
They put to sea to cross the bay
Saw harbour lights recede
White horses to the shoreline race
As though warning to take heed
A foggy headland looms too close
Wild rocks awash with spray
Ill-judgement sealed their fate that night
They won’t see another day
What has become
Of the Kleins on the hill
God speed their return
When this howling wind’s still
A cold thin dawn illuminates
grey sea and sky and land
and splintered wood and their wicker basket
Jetsom on the strand
A chill wind’s ripping through the trees
They forgot to tie the gate
And each and every time it swings
You wonder why they’re late
What has become
Of the Kleins on the hill
They’ll never return
Though that howling wind’s still
The rain is beating on the window
As daylight slips away
An empty house - there’s no one there now
They all left yesterday
A chill wind’s ripping through the trees
They forgot to tie the gate
And each and every time it swings
You wonder why they’re late
What has become
Of the Kleins on the hill
God speed their return
When this howling wind’s still
They put to sea to cross the bay
Saw harbour lights recede
White horses to the shoreline race
As though warning to take heed
A foggy headland looms too close
Wild rocks awash with spray
Ill-judgement sealed their fate that night
They won’t see another day
What has become
Of the Kleins on the hill

...on the hill, see the sun going down..." hahah...
Seriously though, this is a lovely tune Phil. Nice arrangement. Top-notch lyric writing. Vocal delivery that of a true balladeer. Perfect leads. An instant fave!
Be well!
