acoustic guitar folk singer songwriter (1)
Description:
Another song from Rough and Ready productions. Harmonica solo is heavily influenced by Bob Dylan. Lyrics are heavily influenced by Exxon!

Lyrics:
There's a cloud hanging over the sunbelt
Brakes squeal on a crowded road
Traffic jam in the city
Streets can't handle the load
But people still keep coming south
To start all over again
Only to find no peace in a world of greed and oil

The Chamber of Commerce is worried
That their business won't grow
Their concern for the environment
Is all talk and no show
But what good is a dollar
If you can't breathe the air
And how many chemicals are in the lake
And do you even care?

So why do we have to live this way
In a world of corporate greed
You don't have to have what you want
You can live on what you need
And as I watch the sun go down on another Ozone day
I hear a voice that's calling and it says it doesn't have to be this way

cool ditty &mdash 01/30/07 - 02:56:35 AM
you have a unique way of juxtaposing vocals & instrumentation that are understated & tranquil with lyrics that speak of internalized anger and criticism...troubling but most effective in delivering the central message...it beckons the question "And do you even care?" in every way

To care or not to care that is the question. Whether tis nobler to worry yourself sick or to build a wall to fend off the demons. What's really bad is to care but feel powerless to change anything. I guess it all gets back to the old axiom about the only thing you can change is yourself. And if we all change ourselves into something a little better and more caring perhaps we will make it into the next century!

Ah ... &mdash 01/30/07 - 08:57:52 AM
Poignant and sweet in equal measure ... until the harmonica solo, which brings a real edge of anger and frustration. Always nice to hear new stuff from you Bronco!

Your last sentence kind of sums it up doesn't it? Organic vegetables and jet planes. Our governments and business only give lip service to our health and it is only through individual effort that we can counter them.

Love your singing as always. Nice guitar and Dylanesque mouth harp. Timely lyrics. Recently re-read: THE RAPE OF MAN AND NATURE by Phillip Sherrard. This tune fit quite nicely with the message of that book.

Be well!

The real deal &mdash 02/02/07 - 02:20:54 PM
Its always a pleasure to hear a Bronco track...like stumbling on an old classic folk blues track from the Harry Smith archives. Always a sense of Americana authenticity to the tunes...and this is no exception
Nice one

Great lyrics! &mdash 02/03/07 - 05:48:50 AM
Great lyrics on this one Tom. I have been thinking a lot about these issues lately. What comes to my mind, is that the governments never seem to do anything about the real problems.. They think they can solve everything with money. The way Norway is acting like a country that cares about environment make me sick. All actions done are about paying money, no actions are being done to get down the use of all the poison.. Your voice is sounding great as always, and that harmonica sets a great mood in the song. I like your fingerpicking as well. Its of course a download ;)

You've Got It &mdash 02/03/07 - 08:50:46 AM
Magnus,

Yes, you are understanding how things work very well! Government always thinks in terms of if they throw enough money at a problem it will be solved. Of course what really happens is that the money gets wasted, stolen or spent on projects that are poorly designed and don't work.

I was infuriated by a response from my so called representative in our government when he told me that he shared my concern for alternative energy and had sponsored a bill to allocate 200 million dollars to Universities to do research. This after we are spending 100 BILLION dollars in Iraq to blow things up, kill people and leave the countryside littered with depleted Uranium which they use in tank artillery shells.

If the Uranium is so depleted that it is not a health hazzard, let's make chairs out of it for our politicians to sit in! Let Bush put his two daughters in uniform and send them to Iraq and then tell us how important the war is!!

Lost In America &mdash 02/04/07 - 01:45:33 PM
Bronco,
Thanks for Sharing your Music and Thoughts, Very Real
and Poignant. Exxon Making extraordinary profits , gas
prices at the pump vary by the monthly rates the stations
pay they say. If Bush gets what he wants for this protracted hideous war we will be near 3/4 trillion in dollars spent. But to me its the Soldiers Lives Lost,
Horrific Physical Injuries and Traumatic Mental Stress
if they make it home. The American People and the Elected
Officials in Congress and Senate were mislead about this war and for this money all we did was hang Hussein? Rumsfield's Retirement Pary made me sick when
I flicked by it on C-Span, and Cheney and Bush will indeed go down in history as the most inept bunch of liars in Presidential History. The Folks affected by Katrina wait in despire, I can only Imagine how the
poor souls affected in Central Florida will be treated
by the "New Fema" as they call themselves.
Ozone will go up as Bush continues to grovel at the oil companies feet (as well as Dick Cheney) May God Help Us
All!
