Description:
I think it would sound better sung by proffessional singers - but well - there it is.

Lyrics:
Call the Watcher in the green
The piper in the trees
The seasons guardian angel
Love is greater than the sea
It changes you and me
Though we cannot live forever

Autumn fades the golden boughs
Spring lights the emerald flowers
We chase eternal clouds

Call the workers in the field
Your gentle heart to yield
A promise to the traveller
Silver flashes from the stream
A poorman only dreams
Of finding one sweet lover

Dancing shadow Harvest whisper
Queen of Sunlight fear the storm
We seldom catch the skylark song
We only seek one true beauty true

'ey, Droog, 'ow goes? &mdash 02/01/07 - 08:39:31 PM
The love child of Wendy Carlos and Neil Hannon! Double vocals to approximate a vocoder? Great, warm, round sound; very unfashionable production, and right up my alley! Tops!!
There's an odd glitch at the end, though, like you cadged it off your lost masterpiece album....
There really should be more things like this at Macjams.

thats the most perceptive comment i've ever recieved.Your well trained ear informed your brain of almost more information about the excerpt than is contained in my own - dunno about 'masterpiece' album however - morelike lost 'must finish that someday' album.trouble is,old father time keeps punching me sadistically in the gut for my efforts.

a brave fellow if you wear one of those.Jethro Tull and the guy from Cameo are the only 2 people I recall who er.. had the balls to! Although there was one legendary story about Blackie Lawless and an imploding firework..! Cheers

Works for me &mdash 02/02/07 - 07:52:59 AM
this is excellent. I love the very intricate backing and subtle use of the continuo. It reminds me a little of Michael Nyman from "The Draughtsman's Contract". The faux baroque styling suits the bucolic nature of the lyrics perfectly.

Professional singers would be great, I can hear this in a counter tenor voicing.

I'd agree with Jim. MJ needs more of this :-)

Oh, and I also see the Neil Hannon connection.

Nice one.

Cheers

Dick

The divine comedy.. &mdash 02/05/07 - 08:36:13 PM
wrote a tune called 'My lovely horse' for a show called Father Ted - its a silly song but one I often sing at work! 'Frog princess' was always a favourite too. Many thanks!

Wow! &mdash 02/02/07 - 11:08:29 PM
What a total change-up. Strange Jane popped up on the ipod today at work... so far removed from this.

Oddly enough, I can hear this with an occasional power chord and some more modern hard rock vocals along with this. I'm not suggesting this- it's just what I was hearing in my head.

Very interesting work of art and something that I feel would be excellent arranged in multiple ways. Not to mention it's very cool as it is now!

I'm.. &mdash 02/05/07 - 08:42:04 PM
finding it hard to picture the rock thing, maybe in a kind of Evanessence kind of style? It would be interesting to see how somebody like Don Van Vliet would interpret a song like this..strawberry shadows, strawberry clouds, strawberry queeeen!

Thanks - a change is as good as a rest

WoW! &mdash 02/04/07 - 04:43:35 AM
As soon as I noticed that there was an Opera category, I leapt at this, and I was not disappointed. Yes, the sounds couldda been better, but who cares? It's fine music, and I enjoyed every second of it. Of course, you must now satisfy your listeners with the rest of the opera!

Very cool &mdash 02/10/07 - 07:35:38 PM
Excellent lyrics and vocals. I really like the democracy of your music - serve the muse. Stephen Merritt / Magnetic Fields takes a similar approach. Great tune.
