Keywords:
gypsy (10)song (193)rhythm (20)beat (92) ()
Description:
I wrote this as a pop song but it took on a bit of an ethnic flavor during the recording (with a lute, a bouzouki, Shetland tamurin, tambourine, etc). Perhaps I should subtitle it "The Gypsy Song."

The photo, by the way, is one I took of a belly dancer at a local art festival. I don't know about you, but this woman gives off a strong gypsy vibe to me.

Lyrics:
YOU ARE MY SONG
I was born on the road
With the wind in my spirit;
Like the breeze, I’d go where I pleased.
Alone as I rode
Till your voice, I could hear it
In the breeze, the song of gypsies.

You’re the music to which my heart keeps rhythm.
The beat is constant and strong.
And now the song that I sing as we travel together is you.
You are my song.

There was a time when my shadow
Was my only companion.
All alone, down to the bone.
And the voice of my echo
Never answered my questions.
All alone, till you came along.

You’re the music to which my heart keeps rhythm.
The beat is constant and strong.
And now the song that I sing as we travel together is you.
You are my song.

Following in the gypsy’s path,
The highway is our home.
With silver in our caravan and magic in our bones.

Drifting like the stars above,
I know I’ll never be alone,
As long as you cast your spells like a sweet gypsy song.

How strange when Fate intervenes
when you're searching for answers,
Living free led you to me.
Now you’re my sweet gypsy queen
Spinning 'round like a dancer.
Dance with me, my sweet gypsy.

You’re the music to which my heart keeps rhythm.
The beat is constant and strong.
And now the song that I sing as we travel together is you.
You are my song.

Glad you enjoyed the song. Yeah, mixing this was a pain, trying to get all the percussion tracks to not fight each other, so I'm glad it worked for you.
And thanks for mentioning the lyrics, I was pleased with the rhyme structure for the verses: a, b, c, c, a, b, c, c. I find it's good to challenge yourself when you force yourself into a box like that and see if you can make it work.
Anyway, thanks for stopping by and commenting.
All the best.

Thanks for listening and commenting. Actually the song came first, but, yeah I know what you mean, this dancer has a face and body that could inspire a lot of songs I'm sure.

Your tunes... They tickle my soul! It's like I get a certain fix that I can't identify, nor have I seemed to be able to get this fix from any other tune.

Something pretty special. Thank you! Macca

The quality of the production on this is impressive, too! And I don't know why I didn't mention the lyrics... I love 'em! Very sweet. And the percussive action on this is fun and uplifting!!!

Okay, I'm done now - Thanks, again!

Hey, Macca &mdash 02/07/07 - 06:03:49 PM
Wow, thanks for the gracious comments. Music can be like a drug, can't it? As far as my avatar--right back at you; yours is a classic. Thanks too for returning to mention the production and lyrics. I worked very hard on both so it's nice to hear that they both sound good to someone else.
All the best!

Gypsy sweet! &mdash 02/07/07 - 09:41:21 PM
JT..thanks for your remarks on my latest song. Thought I would check your latest too.

This song is vibrant and that tambourine really gives it a bit of an energetic ethnic appeal. The lyrics are quite enjoyable to read and follow as the song progresses. Nice vocals on this too...very confident and eager. The ending instrumentals are really engaging.

On another note, I checked your art work. Man, I'm an instant fan of your work. I used to do fine arts (before shifting careers) so you would know where i'm coming from. You are a well-rounded talented guy, I have to say!

Thanks for this enjoyable song!

I really appreciate you stopping by to listen and comment. Yeah, oddly enough that tambourine was tricky in that it seemed an essential part of the song but I had to vary it so that it didn't get old and yet make it mesh with the other percussion tracks. I spent way more time than I expected getting it right. Weird how the little things can trip you up sometimes.

Leon, I couldn't say enough about how terrific your latest song "We" is. I thought you did a super job on every aspect of it.

Thanks too for your comments on my artwork.

....yeah, a pop tune that takes a definite ethnic turn. Very nice lyrics paint a lucid picture. Also, I think this is your strongest vocal to date bro. Nice going.

Be well friend!

I appreciate you stopping by to listen and comment. I've never sang much in the past but as I've been singing these songs to post here at MJ I think I've been learning a few things so it's nice to hear that I'm improving. Always good to hear from you.
Peace.

Comes off as Celtic to my ears. Melody and song structure are very solid. Overall melody is very engaging and arrangement and instrumentation were very well done.

Yeah, I'm told my heritage is mostly Irish so the Celtic part of my nature slips out from time to time, I suppose. Thanks so much for your generous comments on the melody and arrangement. I sweated over them so it's nice to hear they worked for you.
All the best.

Lovely! &mdash 02/21/07 - 12:22:34 PM
Nice song, here. I don't think the bass sound fits, though; it's a bit too 80s pop. Something deeper or more ethnic sounding would be better.

Appreicate you stopping by to listen and comment. Glad you liked the song. Ethnic bass...humm...I have no idea even how to approach that one. Thanks for the suggestion though.
Peace
