THIS IS NOT
the kind of song you listen to once. I think I might need to study this I like the strings or cello in the background is this all midi instruments . very cool production I like the seriouseness and the playfullness. the way you have that far away bell then you have the up front chimes. A realy good song smokey all thumbs up on this one

it's all MIDI instruments with the exception of the percussion track which is a rehashed TUMI audio loop. i put the tolling bell on its own matrix reverb set to some huge space. the other tracks share a smaller reverb via the master track...

'Still' movement...
Beautiful - This is quite a ambient piece you've put together!

Meditative...

Peaceful...

It was like the moments that I've experienced that were immediately after years/months/days/minutes/seconds after an intense journey...

This is a stunning piece of music, SVW - Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thanks!

...the music and the thoughts behind it evolved together. there are multiple layers of ideas. it started from several ideas about the number twelve: a time of day, a movie, a year, things that come in dozens. the first working title was "Twelve of Twelve," as in page numbers...

A fantasic Ambient soundscape...
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this piece and letting the evocative sounds populate my mind with images of various kinds.

Wonderful.

...then someone mentioned an event recently on the news that involves the number five in the context of being near twelve. although i really liked the implication of the first title, this other reference won out, so i changed it to "Five of Twelve..."

Buckyball or dodecahedron??
Carbon-12 has a structure similar to your image.

Nothing musical to add except 5 digits (normally) per hand and 12 notes in an octave (with no repeats).

I'm going now......

Bells
Bells are hypnotizing. Nice work on the dynamics. You do a lot with the little things. Thanks for sharing.

...that new title drove me to acoustically split out the tolling bell from the rest of the piece, to make it ring twelve times at the end, and to fade everything else out so that the focus is on that bell at the end...

Intriguing...
Like is starts out all innocent and peaceful, then as it gets down to the last few minurtes, the tension is building, and we are left not knowing what happened. Are you a mystery writer or something? I have to listen to this a dozen more times and see what else I get out of it. Very simple, yet replete with secret meaning... Wow.

...finally, i started to explore a brief and obscure way to hint at the thoughts behind this. eventually, i discovered "ask not," which turns out to point at several main themes. then for brevity's sake, i also changed the numbers to digits in the title to settle on "5 of 12."

Yes, I do like bells
Thanks for the note, Bill.
I like the tolling as the strings add melody and tension over the rhythm bed.

Spy versus spy with tolling
bells and jabbing strings - expectant atmosphere - and absolutely gorgeous space and production. A real winner here Smokey. Faved and Dl'd.

Smokey:)
THank you for coming by to check me out earlier.. I had to come by and return the favor and man oh man so glad I did. Great headspace in this.... spooky ass strings and feeling the subtle upswells building long off in the distance... gives me mind of a line from Tori AMos "cant stop whats coming .. cant stop what is on its way"... that covers the feeling of the song for me.

Easily faved :)

"can't stop what's coming" ... yes! that captures it nicely. it's very satisfying to hear a comment like this - i wasn't able to verbalize it myself until you wrote that comment. it's exactly what i was circling around.

thanks!

This is
some astonishing music. Peaceful but with an eerie edge to it. Haunting, is perhaps the word I'm looking for. Had to download this one. Thanks.

thank you very much.

another angle i had on this song is what's like to be outside at midnight - people instinctively fear the darkness - perhaps that's what you meant by peaceful but eerie?

Eclectic, at best. I learned some music theory at school, and read a ton about it since. I've listened to lots of music over the years. I once played guitar in an actual garage band and actually got paid to play! Once. Although live performance is an... [see more]
