Good golly! &mdash 02/03/07 - 07:31:04 AM
Paul, I'll repeat what I whispered in awe at the end of my first listen, "Good golly, how beautiful".

When you publish the CD, I want to buy one.

God bless,

Rick

I feel like waltzing. Liquid contentment. Thank you for sharing this with us. :-)

pleasant &mdash 02/03/07 - 11:04:57 AM
There were some nice moments when the flutes and guitar were in descending harmony, wonderful "dove-tailing".

You have created another pleasant soundscape, well-balanced between the instruments.

Simulating a guitar is very difficult, especially on a keyboard. This one sounded a bit "pianistic" at times. This track would come alive even more with a real guitar.

There was a timing issue just before the middle of the piece, a "glitch" which added a beat. I only noticed this because the waltz had a good groove, and suddenly there was a shift of meter.

All that being said, this was a pleasant listen, and thank you for sharing it here.

Yep. You caught the hicup. Too bad I erased all of the tracks months ago or I could go back and fix it. Nevertheless, I am glad you enjoy the little number. And, yes, the trick with digital instruments is to make them sound acoustic. Playing style has a lot to do with it and the guitar is pretty characteristic. At the hands of a pianist, it takes a lot of restraint to just pluck away consistently. But, that having been said, it sure is fun to try.
Thanks for the comments, Cameron. Your always listen with a critical ear and I appreciate the feedback and the care with which you listen.
Peace.

soft sweeps of her dress... &mdash 02/03/07 - 06:20:21 PM
Very engaging piece of beautiful waltz music, bravo! Overall, the mix sounds very slightly muffled to my ears, I think it needs a little brightness added? The guitar and flute sounded like they could benefit from a little more high end sparkle. But the composition is a delight, soft-spoken, delicate, and warm... I love it.

Glad you enjoyed the number. I agree that the mix volume is a little low...and that the overall mix of solo instruments is uneven. This was one of my early attempts at putting together a lot of elements in a whole orchestration. Quite a challenge. I've learned a lot in the past year or so.

hello &mdash 02/03/07 - 06:30:34 PM
very pleasant and very relaxing.

It doesn't have the same attack as the guitar so
I suggest strumming the keys a bit ....kidding

Best Regards

strumming the keys... &mdash 02/03/07 - 09:14:39 PM
I wonder what you guys would have said had I told you the guitar was acoustic!!!

But, yes, I am a pianist, not a guitarist, so I suppose it shows.

Anyway, I liked the sound. Maybe I'll take some lessons and then practice for about 20 years.
Peace.

The beauty of this digital world... &mdash 02/04/07 - 08:39:19 PM
...is that the SOUNDS available on the guitar can be PLAYED with the approach and technique one brings to a piano... One can see it as a gift, not a drawback...

I have oftimes confessed to being a sucker for waltz time...

You have such a good ear and feel for melody and harmony, Paul... so much of what you write sounds like it could take a lyric... your sense of melody suits the cadence of song so well... As I listen I almost expect the notes to form words...

Really nice.

Many thanks, Ed, for your positive take on my "guitar" playing. I agree that the digital age has put a lot of new tools into our hands. Perhaps there are other ways to think of them than in the traditional context. I rather like that notion.

Did I hear the good the bad and the ugly? &mdash 02/05/07 - 01:38:22 AM
At the start, I almost thaught it was, but the obvious sweetness of this melody emerged and I throughly enjoyed it. Thank you.

the good and the bad &mdash 02/05/07 - 10:38:19 AM
Ummmm....yep. "The good, the bad, and the ugly" was right up there at the top. How could I resist such a catchy motif? (You're the first to pick up on that. Clever guy!)

...into to the woods and the sun shining through the canopy. Clouds rolling by. Reminds me of where I grew up. I'm a little boy, again.
Very fine to hear the added dimension of your instrumentation skills, Paul.
I really love your music.

Enjoyed &mdash 03/12/08 - 10:27:42 AM
as I've done with all the tunes I've heard you play.

Got to up the score on ya, not in line with the other ones. Your ideas are so mature, so uplifting. Your professionalism is a no brainer when hearing this. Just can't understand the score here in relation to what is happening with your others. Terrific!
