Description:
Lyrics by "Ashley"
Vocals by Matt M.
Lyrics:
Lizards
by “Ashley
Entranced in smoke and shadow
I lay in wait for time to pass
Remembering woes that left me hollow
And built inside, a heart of glass.
Reminisced on memories so faded
They perhaps were no more than dreams
Longed for a perception untainted
By the things that were less than they seemed.
Reflected thoughtfully upon the day
And the reasons I had averted my eyes
Left behind secrets I needed to say
Saw beneath your shallow disguise.
I traced a star, begot in sorrow
Bled a tear whose stain would last
Died in a flame I'll forget tomorrow
As I lay in wait, for time to pass.

Kept Waiting &mdash 02/03/07 - 10:51:19 PM
I kept waiting the whole song for a nice meaty electric guitar to kick in but it never happened. The uh, how do I put it ... chhhh chhhh ... chhh chhhh of the guitar made me anticipate that some tasty riff was down the road but never got there. I would take those out or put a more eletric rhythm part in afterwards. I like the little breaks in between the verses. I also like when "I traced a star" starts how the vocals sound. The lyrics by Ashley are also nice. Thanks for sharing. [ Reply to This ]
Very cool production &mdash 02/04/07 - 12:07:36 AM
is this a new tune - a rework - or an earlier recording? I could hear it break open a little more in places - I like the disturbances - but I also like being seriously disturbed. The layered vox at the end are cool. Matt's got a really great voice - but occasionally he throws in a lounge turn that doesn't sit right with the music - in my humble opinion only. I can't sing anywhere near this good - so I really got no cred on the matter - just my taste. [ Reply to This ]

Nothing in MY experience... &mdash 02/04/07 - 09:24:20 PM
...to compare this to...
I love the mix in headphones... That compressed and distorted guitar in the right ear... the full spread of drums, percussion... great keyboard and bass bits... Vocals from another world...
Every time I listen to your stuff, my mind stretches a bit.. and likes it...

Impressionistic alt rock &mdash 02/05/07 - 01:00:58 PM
Love the sense of daydream, of letting go, with such a nice pacing and surging arrangement. Cool all around. The ending was a little abrupt, tho. Maybe needed a longer reverb tail. Very sweet psychedelic trip hop impressionism. [ Reply to This ]
Hmmm... &mdash 02/08/07 - 08:13:22 PM
Now this one starts very differently right away, sort of a major7 or 9 kind of key and that guitar teasingly striking on the side is really unique... very unconventional and borders on experimental. Matt's vocals in this one is one of his best.. The echochamber chanting in the end really catches me off guard... very interesting and what a way to accentuate the ending. This is really offbeat in so many ways, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't pleased with the effect. This one defintely gerts high marks for adventurous and bold attempt at novelty!
I went back to read the lyrics... hmmm. equally strange. It's poetic in a very strange way, very abstruse but consistent with the nature of this song! [ Reply to This ]
Nicely out there &mdash 02/09/07 - 06:23:35 AM
Really liked this Philip - BIG sounds, especially that guitar. Would have loved the guitar to take off into something else (I suspectAdrian Bellow would have loved a crack at this).

Hey Racerat - this is great, mellow but kinda menacing. Wonderful lyrics, really poetic. i really loved the tail out section - i could loop that and listen endlessly ....
