Description:
Looking up at the night sky with millions of stars, the coldness of the sea on my backside. Loneliness and despair only to find hopelessness. I am forever lost at sea.

It's been so long since the last posting... &mdash 02/06/07 - 10:08:33 PM
This was a very welcome listen :)

The beginning reminds me a little of the ambient music from the game Myst (that's a good thing!) but then sails on its own to the dark, lulling seas and a solitary journey beneath starlit skies.

A beautiful, melancholy journey....pensive. Reflective.

Thank you for sharing this.

Thanks Cat! It's time to dust off the old keyboards and start playing again. I remember starting a piece with you awhile back-I still haven't forgot I am hoping we can finish that piece someday.

Thank you again

Wow Tom, you've popped out of the woodwork for a rare appearance! I hope you're doing well, and I hope that you post something sometime! ;-)

Well, at least you have a guitar with you... &mdash 02/07/07 - 01:17:32 AM
Nice track. It starts out with just chords, which builds a certain mood, but to me it works better if there is indeed a cinama that this is the soundtrack to. And then later in the track you introduce some actual melodic material with that guitar. It sounds a bit like a note of hope to me.

For the comment. Just a warm up piece to get back into it again. Hopefully soon I will have another piece I wrote awhile back with guitar. Can't wait to demo it on mjs.

Take care.

welcome back, Patrick! &mdash 02/07/07 - 09:43:34 AM
I was wondering when we'd hear from you again. It's worth the wait. This is another sublime song, Patrick. It pulls me in from every angle. You know how there are just some musicians who seem to have been formed from the same emotional mold? That's you, my friend. We are so lucky to have you share your music with us.

wash of sound &mdash 02/07/07 - 10:56:39 AM
This is a very interesting palette of sound colors, nicely panned and phased. The dissonances create tension and the long notes which resolve create release.

I liked the rhythmic, melodic section at the end, and wish that it had occured earlier in this piece, which would have given it more of a structure for the ears to "hang onto".

The ending seemed a little sudden, but then again, if this is a soundtrack perhaps the "scene" quickly shifted to something else. ;-)

You created a rather melancholic atmosphere in this piece. Feelings of loneliness. I was wondering when you'd post something again, and was glad to listen to this!

Thanks Cameron &mdash 02/07/07 - 12:23:45 PM
Again, thank you for your suggestions. It is hard to break old habits when you haven't been playing for awhile. This piece was just a warm-up to get familiar with the keyboards and software again. Soon I will be up to par in writing some complete pieces with substance again.

Always appreciate your comments!

I love your voicings &mdash 02/07/07 - 10:21:50 PM
You really fill a very large space with this sound. I like the immediate presence of the guitar juxtaposed with the farther away sounds of the synths. The picture I get is of you in a small boat, drifting at sea, but then looking at your sleeping child in the boat, and gathering the resolve to find a safe port for the both of you. (Yes, I know, overactive imagination.) Very nice. I hope to hear more from you.

Thanks for your comment it is greatly appreciated. Though I haven't heard any of your material yet, I look forward to taking a listen. If you haven't already take a listen to BioHeaven which is similar and give me your feedback I would love to hear them.

Thanks again,
Patrick

elegant darkness &mdash 02/09/07 - 03:34:54 PM
nice little sound effects dappled across the dark dissonant depths, that give deceptively beautiful harp and string washes. I liked the tension between major/minor/jarring. The fact that the harp melody picks up only near the end, only to just sort of stop was a little odd, I would have preferred a slightly different way to end, not sure how though. Great artwork, adds to the mystery. Good to see you back, look forward to more of your music again!

Good to hear from you again, Yea I have been away from music far too long and from MacJams as well. Thanks for the feed back, the ending was a bit abrupt but didn't have a good resolve. Maybe in the future a revised ending may come to play in this piece.

Catching up on some listening, look forward to hearing your stuff soon.

Take care
Patrick

well hey there &mdash 02/10/07 - 01:45:19 AM
I, like everyone else, give a hearty hello again! This piece is taking my mind far away-- and making me see make-believe movie scenes reel through my imagination. It is also slowing my breathing to a most relaxed state. Very nice. Good to see you again.

Thanks Bowman for the comments-always appreciate it! Check out some other Legato pieces like BioHeaven a very Vangelic sounding piece or Voice of Suburbia that will take you to places in the city. Both very smooth sounding pieces with a melancholy touch. Check it and tell me what you think.

Take Care,
Patrick
