Lyrics:
SWEET PETE
(Paul “Shaky O” Stacey)

1/.
The night I heard old Pete had jumped,
I broke right down in public and I cried,
Ain’t the kind of thing I usually do,
but it was on me before I coud hide
it was on me before I coud hide.
CHORUS
Sail on sweet Pete, sail on.Sail on sweet Pete, sail on.
You were too short here, now you’re too long gone,
Sail on sweet Pete,sail on.
2/.
Now Peter was a player, probably the best in the whole damn town,
You never had to ask for the heat turned up,
you just let him lay his beat on down.
you just let him lay his beat on down.

3/.
Now quite why the asshole decided to jump,
I’m sure I really don’t want to know,
Just want to remember him for the friend he was,
and how he always put on a mighty fine show
he always put on a mighty fine show

4/.
Some people say Peter didn’t go to heaven,
’cos when you jump the churches don’t toll no bells.
Me, I reckon he got that special dispensation,
but if he didn’t he’s playing in the best damn band in Hell
the best damn band in Hell.
the best damn band in Hell

Quite a tribute. Sax and Vox emotion really shows. Thanks for recording this session and sharing it with us.

Tho' it wasn't the easiest song to write, or even, years later, the easiest song to sing; he's still missed by a lot of people.
Cheers, Shaky

This is a fine song. Really digging on the sax and the guitar is right on. This has a New Orleans feel to it... I can see why you would personally prefer this tune. Thanks for the offering.
