A nice smooth jazz thing ya got going here. Some good ideas. Like what your doing with the horns, but for my taste, I would use them a little more sparingly. (Less is More).
For instance, after the intro of 8 bars, I would lay them out altogether in order to bring out your melody a bit more and let the audience get it full strength for a chorus. Then on the 2nd chorus, I'd bring them back in, perhaps after the first 4 bars, just before your solos. On the solos, lay them out again at the beginning and then bring them slowly in again.
Liked your break in the middle with the bass & drums after the solos. I'd hold the horns there too for at least 2 bars and then bring them in again for your
nice build before the end followed by your fade out with the noodlin on top.
Good tune. [ Reply to This ]
Thanks for checking in. &mdash 02/08/07 - 11:14:01 PM
I appreciate your input on the construction of the tune. Unfortunatly this is an old direct to disc thing. i could resurrect the old project but its a matter of finding the zip disc it was stored on and so on.
Anyway your suggestions are well thought out. I see after listening to your tune that you have a knack for this stuff.
My bro use to always tell me to layer the stuff more. Today i herd Steve Miller do "Swingtown " , a great example. The playing is nothing spectaculer nor showy, but the thing gets you.
Thanks for the kind words about the work. Perhaps I'll have a go at re- doing this tune on GB. And absolutly takeing into concideration your thoughts.
Thanx again.
Respectfully
Tim

On the beach &mdash 02/13/07 - 02:19:08 PM
Your guitar playing reminds me of Chris Rea. This one has a little of 'on the beach' feel to it.
I can dig this:)

I went to check out Chris Rea and downloaded 'On the Beach'
Funny cause Neil Young (I'm a big fan) has a tune called on the beach and I wasn't sure untill i went to Chris @ iTunes and found the tune. Thanks for the turn on. I never herd Chris. His music is cool. I recognize some.
Thanks for your support.
I never realized you are way over in Norway... I think that is so cool that MJs can unite people across the globe. We may be on to something here?!

Like This one, Too.
Sweet back and go between the Bass and the Six's.
A FINE Listen. Appreciated (it's about to snow for the next two days, here!)
Very Best,

a different direction &mdash 02/26/07 - 12:03:46 AM
than what I was expecting (after that ECM vibe you had going),; and it makes me wonder where ECM stops and smooth jazz starts........? You might have a soft spot for Windham Hill, too, I think.
Anyway, an enjoyable listen. Thanks for a good tune.
BTW, I lived in Salem, MA for a couple of years, and as I recall, Spring was short, late and morphed almost immediately into summer! [ Reply to This ]
Sometimes spring is long and summer is short &mdash 02/26/07 - 10:14:13 AM
but anyway thanks for the comments.
I live for the summer. sometimes i think that i wish the rest of the year away and
then its snowing again.
as far as my music goes, i cant seam o figure out what genre it is. I listen to somany styles and they all seam to rear there heads at different times. your not the first person to mention Windham Hill. I only have a few cd's, some winter and summer solstist discs.
i think my music comes out reserved because im always too carful and the resuls is mellow stuff rather than the head bangin stuff, i also love.
thanks again for listening

I like this... &mdash 03/05/07 - 05:01:07 PM
They don't seem to write a lot of tunes in this style anymore. If they are then somehow I'm missing them! Very nice MOR jazz-rock. Pleasant lead riffing herein. Mellowed me out. Made me smile.

Thanks Tim &mdash 03/11/07 - 11:13:35 PM
I am grateful you stoped in. To be even thought of in the same breath with Benson is a complement.
i enjoyed him back in those days as well...
remember "breezen" I really liked the Benson and Farrell record on CTI that looked like a cigerette box...
Thanx for sharing the songs about your Mom

Excellent melody and phrasing. Song was quite pleasant to listen to and has some real nice nuances and textures. Great sounding strat ( I particularily like it for jazz and only play them myself). Excellent lines and tone! [ Reply to This ]
