Description:
I used to play in a band: "Absolute Zero" (not the one in my picture). We performed in the NY/CT/NJ area. Very creative endeavor...the rehearsals were great. Always collaborating on something.

The lyrics for this tune were written by our singer. Our drummer had just met a woman, named "Mary" (gettin' the picture?). The attraction was very compelling. "Hail Mary" became the mantra. He's a practicing Catholic and meant nothing disrespectful to the rosary.

We focused on the concept of woman as earth mother and, as a band, came up with this tune.

Last note: I just recently converted some of my past works from tape to disk. This is one of them. So there's some background noise. I'll be up and running with GB soon...looking forward to getting more digitally and creatively current. 'Till then...

Lyrics:
Hail Mary
Lyrics by Scott Elliott

Hail Mary full of grace, come show your face
I've got something for you, don't want you to lose
Who else but you could fill those shoes?
Hail Mary full of grace, come show your face
In your pulsing presence, I feel a rush
You could mold a man with but a touch.

You are every woman that I've ever known
The kind of woman one would pray for
So much more than that, here's another fact
I'm living off what you give me, so hear my prayer

Hail Mary full of grace, come show your face
In your pulsing presence, I feel a rush
You could mold a man with but a touch
Start the moan, make me sweat
Give me what I want to get

Touching with our bodies, touching with our minds
We've entered a connection of a closer kind
So much more that that, here's another fact
I'm wrapped around you like a crawling vine
So hear my prayer.

Nice singing, and it's cool when the funk kicks in. I also really like the guitar ornamentation and backing soundscape. For a recording to tape, this sounds clean and well mixed.

great to finally hear this &mdash 02/07/07 - 05:59:47 PM
You got the mp3 tags in, cool! Wow, that guy can sing! Great bass, and super luscious dreamy guitar work... very pretty music bed... the hiss of the tape is there at the beginning and end, but the way this piece drew me in, I didn't notice it anywhere else. Almost worth the recording to hear him sing that inhumanly long held note, sheesh! Nice sensual music.
ttfn,

Thanks, man. Glad you like the tune. And: yeah...Scott's got some pipes, alright. I really enjoyed playing with these guys.

Nice tune &mdash 02/07/07 - 06:16:50 PM
I like the arrangement on this a lot. Very lush and jazzy. Nice lyrics. Is Anthony also singing? He does a cool job on vocals, although they sounded a tad muted to me. Maybe it's the transfer from tape. There's some software called SoundSoap (http://www.bias-inc.com/products/soundsoap/) that might improve it.
Really great song. Enjoyed listening. Thanks.

...esp. their "Reach the Beach" album. "One Thing Leads to Another" was nice on there...but the title tune; "Reach the Beach", was great.

Thanks for taking time to visit, listen, comment.

what contrast! &mdash 02/07/07 - 10:46:24 PM
I love the contrast between the verses and chorus. Most unexpected. I agree with Sir Drak -- the verses are awfully sensual. Gorgeous swells and most emotive and compelling vocals. I was glued start to finish. Wonderful. nevermind the recording quality -- it can't hide a well-composed and performed piece.

Great Avatar, MChaos... &mdash 02/08/07 - 11:18:39 AM
...one of my faves.

Very happy you like the piece. "Finding Satori" knocked my socks off.

Sensual was exactly what we painted: extreme attraction to a woman paralleled with the concept of Earth Mother... rainforest...atmospheric.

Much thanks...

Great vocals on this... &mdash 02/08/07 - 10:49:34 PM
...and a lush mix and lush production that, alternating funk and slinkiness, really takes this into an almost religious, Earth-Mother-celebration dancing kind of thing...

Great mix... Love the guitars...

Great over all sound and well performed. Its nice to here analogue here in this highly dig world.
I also don't mind the hiss, the tune is well worth it.

You guys have a lot of talent or should say as a group ... had...

There must be some diapointed people who use to go out to see you guys play.

Man... God know i miss some live acts i use to see. I would have been a big fan.

Anybody remember a band named "Godspeed" early 70's Ny Nj NJ shore... you don't find such quality just anywhere... the area demands quality

I'm off again...

this music is great... waiting for more from your archives and looking forward to your first GB stuff.
Tim

Hey Tim... &mdash 02/10/07 - 01:21:35 AM
Don't remember Godspeed...but who knows? I could easily have crossed paths with and heard them.

I'm still in contact with Greg (bass). Good friends. Tony and Scott...I miss them.

Our last few shows were our best. Lone Star Roadhouse wanted us as regulars right before they closed. (Damn, man!) We were rolling...but then this silly thing called "life" intervened and we ended up going our separate ways.

Very glad you like the tune. Got some more...will post as time passes.

Whoops... &mdash 02/10/07 - 11:54:20 AM
...I was just told by Greg (bass player) that Scott, the vocalist, wrote the lyrics. I made the change in the "Description".

Sincerest apologies to all.

very sensual &mdash 02/10/07 - 10:20:14 PM
I'm listening on computer speakers, so the sound quality is not an issue at all. This is a really polished piece of music, performed by very talented musicians. It is too bad when 'life' intervenes and you have to go your separate ways, but I bet you're glad you have this on tape.

[ Reply to This ]
Very happy... &mdash 02/11/07 - 04:17:54 PM
...to have it on tape and now disk. It was a shame we broke up. Good, tight band.
I'm still in contact with Greg, the bass player. He's very interested in getting GB when I do and collaborating on some pieces. Can't tell you how much that means to me. To be able to get back onto my electric again without the hassles of studio rentals/coordinating schedules. As well as all the acoustic tunes I want to record.
Thanks for listening, Kristy. Glad you liked the piece.

No, I am definitely NOT the singer. Wish I could say I was. Eventually, I will record and then post the first song I've sung in a long, looooooonnnnnggggg time. Then you'll see the difference. ;-)
Scott can sing, alright, though. Shines on this tune.

Nice guitar work on this one. You guys had a really tight band. This is one of those tunes, where back in the 70's, you could stretch it out to half of an LP. People would be calling the radio station asking them to please play the long version of it and not the 6 min. version.

By the way, thanks for your comment on my tune.

hail mary - Memories &mdash 03/28/07 - 12:21:06 AM
I am the vocalist on this track & felt a chill from hearing it again. Been a few years since I sang that one. I loved it so. I felt musically, it defined us as a band. Very ambitious & emotional. And we were, as well!! I hope to connect with Guitarpick agian soon! And thanks to all kind comments listed here. you know how it is - we spend so much time criticizing ourselves about how we could have approached some better, that we tend not to enjoy the pure effort of it. I do now, hearing it with a more mature ear!!! Wow!!! Thanks again!!!

sometimes you can tell alot about someone on Mj just listening to something they contributied too. This is really an extraodinary ensemble. piece. The vocals indeed do shine, but the instrumentation is what propels it foprward with a unique sense of style. Cool transitions. You guys should be on the radio. Absolutely cool.
Like your lead. Its melodic and tatsy.

...after listening to some of your stuff, I'm real happy to hear you like mine/ours. Hats off, brother.

This was, indeed, a very cool band to play with. Much as I loved playing out with them, the rehearsals were often totally mind blowing affairs. Jam. Tape. Take it home. Work on parts. Back and jam some more. Make a tune.

I really miss playing my electric. Been big time into acoustic, lately. Now that I've got my GB and Firewire 410, though...I'll be putting more time back into "the currents".

Thanks for taking the time. I'll be posting another one in the next couple of days. Called "Resolution". A fine little ditty about office politics.

Man...don't I wish. That's Scott...and yeah: he's got pipes, alright. Check out "Resolution", too...very expressive fellow, he is...

I am, for all intensive purposes, a guitarist and composer...

I've just recently started singing...and am now learning how to record my voice...so what I've got on this site, so far, isn't quite up-to-date...but I've got a ways to go, to say the least.

It's really nice of you to check out my tunes, Lena...I'll be visiting yours soon. Thanks...

...no, I'm not in a band, now. All solo stuff since my daughter was born. Never had a kid and been with bands forever. They take up lots of time and energy. Put that towards my girl, for awhile.

Nice change of pace allowed me to write lots of solo acoustic music.
