Drak's Birthday Song February 10, 2007
A Very Happy Birthday to you, Eduard. :-)
I thought it would be fun to have a birthday song for our MacJams Dragon, so I sent the first verse and half the chorus to Caroline, who, with Peter's technical advice, quickly wrote the rest of the verses. (thank you both very much!) Texasfeel generously offered to lay down the recording soundbed- thank you, John! (melody by Peter Yarrow of PP &M) Then we sent out notices to a bunch of MacJammers (my apologies if you didn't get an invite) who joined in with vox and instruments. I did my best with the editing and mixing, trying to give each player the mic, so to speak. Please forgive me if it's not as professional as it would have been, had you mixed it. This was great fun, and many, many thanks to my MacJams friends for joining in on this birthday celebration. :-)
And a fun time was had by all. :-)
Raising a toast to Eduard, along with all of you,
Roxylee
"Party "characters, in no particular order:
Texasfeel- created the track for recording onto- thanks!
Caroline- singer, kazoo player who stole the MIDI track and was her usual rowdy self
APB- funny guy with the fake Scottish accent
Stevewhit- "old gent" with the real English accent (well, to him, it's not an accent)
Kristyjo- sweet singer of melody and harmony
RickW- laughing singer who asks the question
Kren- singer of harmony and melody, and played her flute
SmokeyVW- singer, our piano player who added the bells
Rebsie- Added a nice extra harmony track
EMP- Echo man of few words, but cool words
Alannah- Sends her reverberating wishes
Ian- sends his birthday greetings to his friend
Amagi- edgy bass track on the second half, organ player
Mystified- lovely backing vocal oohs
Jiguma- cool bass track on the first half
Roxylee- sang a bit, narrator, party hostess

Lyrics:
Drak, the MJ Dragon- words by Roxylee & Caroline (mostly Caroline), melody borrowed from Peter YarrowDrak the MJ dragon
Lives by the sea
He also lives in all our hearts
In MacJams land, you see
He is the best friend, ever
He’ll always lend an ear
His dragon grins and smirky smiles
Will always bring you cheer
CHORUS:
Oh, Drak the MJ dragon
Lives by the sea
We send you birthday greetings
You’re the best, we all agree!
We wouldn’t be without you
We need you day and nite
Cos you are our best dragon here
On the MacJams site
Drak the MJ dragon lived by the sea
he whooshed and poofed and
poofed and whooshed
as happily as can be
and whenever I want anyone
to give advice to me
I look for Drak along the track
coz he's the one for me
Â
CHORUS
Drak the MJ dragon
Writes his code in C
He’s nifty with a pencil
And makes music in GB
His hardware is amazing
Not a floppy drive in sight
You ask him for a nibble and
He’ll give you a big byte
 CHORUS
Drak the MJ dragon
A punny gift he’s got
His music is so beautiful
Just like a bandelbrot (Uh- Caroline, you mean mandelbrot? ;-)
He’s nifty with a pencil
And speedy with his mouse
And always sends us photographs
When e’er he leaves his house.

Roxylee - wonderful mix - you got the party atmosphere just right! how long did this take? it must have been many hours of tweaking and adjusting. i love it!
thanks!
Roxylee
about doing the mix for all you great musicians, and Im very relieved that your ears liked it. You don't want to know how many day...er... hours it took me to get it right. Every time something funny got sent in or a new idea came to me, I made the adjustments, so it would feel like a party. I'm grateful to everyone who so graciously trusted me with their tracks. Hey, Drak, get outta bed and listen to your song!! LOL

... you OLD DRAGON ... we ate all the cake ... sorry.
kristyjo
I know dragons like to 'sleep in', but I'm hoping you get here in time for the ice cream and the piñata, Drak! Roxy, thanks for all the work you put in to make this a very special greeting for our favorite dragon!
drakonis
I am quite stunned by all this... but I'm starting to regain some semblance of composure. Please allow me to thank each of you who directly participated in this... and a very heartfelt thank you to everyone else who is wishing me well...
Caro2ine, your delightfully whimsical lyrics, funny choice of music, and infectious giggling and kazoo playing really "take the cake".
JohnL - Thank you for assembling the music bed here, and for braving the wilds of Plano to meet the dragon face-to-face.
Alan - Superior slurred Scottish Sibilance.
SteveW - Thank you for chiming in, accent or not.
Kristine - How gracious of you to voice your greetings so harmoniously.
RickW - Very nice to have you at the party too, Sir.
Karen - I am a nut for the flute... thank you so much for playing for me.
SmokeyVW - I really loved it when you chimed in with the bells, very nice.
Rebsie - I always enjoy your sweet earthy singing and friendship.
EMP - Hey Gary, thank you for taking time to stop in and say hi, I appreciate it greatly.
Alannah - You are one hauntingly reverb-laden punny tease, and you always make me smirk.
Ian - This whole thing had me in epileptic fits! Thanks for gibbon it your all.
Amagi - Mike, Great bass playing... but how the heck did you play the Oregon? It is a huge state, I was just there.
Mysti - Your sweet voice and friendship & your whimsical sense of humor I always enjoy... thank you for bringing your little ducks to the party.
Neil - The deep rumbling thunder of the bass from down under... that was you? Thank you for strumming to me.
Roxylee - My eternal pre-MJ friend, thank you for pulling this together... this is mind-boggling. Mixing dozens of tracks together and sliding things around to fit, adding in all the mp3 tags, artwork and lyrics into the mp3 file, you are amazing.
You have all touched my heart, and I am forever in your debt. Thank you again.
Your friend and virtual Macjams Dragon,
Eduard
Whaddaya mean "virtual" Dragon? You mean your not a REAL Dragon? What a &^!$^%#!!^#*!!!! rip-off!!!

Happy Birthday!!
Steve
I need to say something, at least i feel the urge to do so. I dont know a lot of people here. But this is very special. Eduard, I haven't had the pleasure to speak to you that often to truly say anything. But from the effort of so many people i can deduce what i am starting to believe. This is a special place, and i think it is because people like you as admin make it like that. You set the example. Wicked, I feel very honored to be part of it for just a tiny little bit of this all. With my little funny tunes. The sum of a lot of individuals seems to be more than...
Happy birthday sir!
yours truly,
Marc Goemans

...the recorder's such a nice touch. Puts you right on a European castle's cobblestone street. Tassles on your cap. Dragon flying overhead.

a birthday song every year for all the helpful advice and great encouragement to all in MJ over the years. :-) This was a riot to do and we all could hardly wait for him to come online that day and be surprised by it. I'm glad you got to hear it, Dee. Thanks for the great appreciation for this labor of love. The wonderful Mjers who contributed to this hilarious song are forever in my heart. Such funny phrases and laughter in this! :-)
