Description:
The Earth continues to spin regardless.

Lyrics:
The clouds are hanging off the interstate, it's on its way, who else can say they have
a star to circle in the milky way, and every sun beam streams from days away?
The reverend says he's got the inside track if we wanna ride cuz we're gonna die
we bow our heads and fold our legs and recite paragraphs from Mother Goose and Brother's Grimm and now

we can't be sure
but you can't be right
but if we think on it a little more
we can salvage all we have forsaken

We live like kings beneath the powerlines, our thrones recline, we're simple minded
we're leaving parasites to eat our children — what did they do to deserve it?
You were never meant to demonstrate the weakness of a common man and the doctor said
your knees were brittle but at 2 years old you were 3 feet tall, not halfway there...

we can't be sure
but you can't be right
but if we think on it a little more
we can salvage all we have forsaken

we can't be sure
but you can't be right
but if we look it at a little more
i think we'll find the earth remains in motion

we can't be sure
but you can't be right
god hammered down the countryside
but the stars beyond explode regardless

we can't be sure
but you can't be right
our position in the scheme of things
leaves a question mark after every sentence

Pretty cool &mdash 02/12/07 - 10:35:07 AM
The sound reminds me of the band Drink Me that made some recordings for Bar None Records back in the early 90s. They used the same sort of reverby sound that sounds like it's recorded in an empty warehouse, and I find that particularly appealing. It sort of suits the ambivalence of the lyrics in this song, and the vocal is well done, with the right sort of inflection that is dry enough in its delivery to counterbalance the wetness of the sound. There's a little bit of out-of-tuneness to the guitar that creeps in every so often, but it's sort of okay because in context that adds to the coolness factor, like a "wtf!" moment. Great lyrics.
