Description
This is the first time I've ever written music with Garage Band (or any music program for that matter)... so it probably shows that I'm very new at this. But given that this was a trial run - I'm pleased with how this turned out, despite that it's choppy and perhaps a bit cluttered.

I'm definitely new to MacJams, but it seems like a nice place to be. Thanks to those who have helped guide me so far. I'll definitely need hints and advice from everyone along the way!

thank you!
Thanks so much for the feedback!

I was a little nervous about posting this at all - there are a lot of really talented musicians here. I'm hoping most to sing... working on some things, but having some trouble with arrangements (and I'm probably the worst lyricist ever)... so putting something out there will be a challenge for me.

Dr. Hopson is my brother in law!

ocean..... :)*
I am 52 and MACJAMS has finally given me a chance to try out my voice, before this I was really quiet......i had never done any singing. It is really fun to explore new sounds.......I am happy to meet you and your brother in law saved my life 10 years ago........(electrical ablation....my "normal" heartbeat was 250 bpm!!!) I wouldn't be here if not for that proceedure :)*
I LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING YOU TRY OUT WITH SINGING.....don't worry about the lyrics ......whatever you feel that comes to you......have fun!
Morning Light:)*

Hello again
Welcome (again) to Macjams. I won't repeat the comment I made on this when it first showed up... I don't hear anything different, so I'm not sure why you replaced the first one with this one. But one thing Macjams doesn't do (yet) is allow us to post an UPDATE to an existing song in the same spot, and leave the old one there with the old comments intact (however, you CAN edit/update the song artwork or description after you've uploaded the mp3.) So we must upload a NEW song and call it "cool song, version 2" or something. Look forward to more from you as you experiment with altering the loops, and starting to record your singing.
ttfn,
Drakonis

actually...
I didn't intend to delete the first song (this one is the exact same file)... But I wasn't sure if I had created the song license correctly - the profile wouldn't let me make any changes unless I removed it entirely and then started from the beginning - so I had to delete and repost. Of course, this was all fruitless because the song settings were actually the way I wanted them all along. *sigh*

I plan to experiment with some vocals today... still a bit nervous though. I'm OK at coming up with melodies, but really don't know how to build music around them... I've never taken too many stabs at composing music. I can definitely picture it in my head - but it usually escapes me when I try to put it into action. Sort of like playing air guitar, I suppose. If nothing comes to me I might have to try some A Capella tracks and see what that brings.

Nice use ----
of the GB loops. The begging sort of reminded me of the " Loop It Or Lose It" challenge #1. Actually this would have made a GREAT entry. You did a fine job Dylan. I would have never guessed this was your first song if you hadn't mentioned it. Keep up the good work.

Welcome to Macjams - and YES - This is a great place to be.

Thanks for sharing,

mvh : )

Good Stuff
I really enjoyed listening to this. Nice arrangement.
The only quibbles I would have are on the entrance and exit of the big 'Slap Bass' part. Just a bit abrupt, perhaps a wee rethink of the parts for this section. Apart from that I was bopin' 'n groovin' allong whith this one.

Nice job
I've been on this site for a while, and even though I don't use GB, it means I've heard most of the loops by now, and your piece sounded fresh.

So how about combining some of these dance loops with your vocal piece?

Victor.

Welcome aboard!
And nice first effort! It's got a good drive to it...does jump around a bit...but it keeps you moving throughout, without to many repeats of the loops. And, cool, it has an ending! Many first-timers just go for the fade at the end. Keep it up, sounds good so far! You'll find that MacJams is a friendly place...where you can post without too much fear :).

Fade -
Haha. If I'd had even the slightest clue as to how to fade the song I probably would have done it. Perhaps I should investigate some of those Garage Band tutorials a bit, eh?

Great..
When I first started with GarageBand all I wanted to do was make a song with a lot of guitar in it. Well, 3 years later I still have not been able to create any (guitar) song as good as this one. All it needs is a little fine tuning that you will learn along the way. Use the support page Apple has for GarageBand, that's how I learned. Keep up the great work. Please listen to my songs and leave comments.
