Description:
A little pop tune I wrote in late 2004, but only recently recorded.
Lyrics:
Snap
Didn’t have the look
Didn’t have the body
Didn’t have what it took
To be somebody
Never had the face
Never wore the make-up
Never got the dates
But it feels like a breakup
Couldn’t pass the test
Couldn’t pull my own weight
Can’t understand this mess
Or control my own fate
Ever want to disappear
Every single day
Ever tremble in fear
When they’re coming your way
Waiting for the next blow
Waiting for the night
Waiting waiting waiting
For you to say it’s all right
Feeling off balance
Like I’m falling in a trap
Feeling rough around the edges and I
Feel I’m going to snap
Didn’t get the memo
Wouldn’t sign the contract
Never thought I was close
To getting back on track
Can’t deal with the world
Waiting for its turning
Feeling nothing but I want to
Get started on the burning

Downtempo &mdash 02/21/07 - 10:51:55 PM
This song has a great vibe: equal parts Joy Division, Lou Reed and something else.... Your flat delivery of the lyric adds a lot of psychological weight. A short, strong debut. What's next? [ Reply to This ]
nice song &mdash 02/22/07 - 04:44:47 AM
I could hear Lou reed too in the voice. The lyrics are straightforward but moving. The music doesn't change much but it fits the subject somehow and that makes it work. [ Reply to This ]

Hadn't thought of Lou Reed myself, but I suppose you're both right. What's next... a couple of things on the way. I'd encourage you to check out pengui's page... he and I collaborate on a lot of stuff, and that's where a lot of my energy is going. This page is stuff I work on by my lonesome. Thanks for the comments! [ Reply to This ]

Great guitar playing on this - love the tremelo guitar and the atmospherics. I get the Lou/Curtis comparisons - there are qualities of both, but it really works for this song ... the harmonies are lovely as well. This builds up, but ultimately it feels like it needs something else - there's a great sense of build-up and drama, but then the song ends ... definately could be developed more.
All in all, this is right up my street, and an excellent track ... really enjoyed this. I'm currently working on the track pengui sent, but I'd love to take a pass at this sometime (2008????).

Nothing seems to overpower other elements. Very nice mix-down. Very atmospheric and emotional. Great Job! [ Reply to This ]

Nice... &mdash 04/08/07 - 03:34:33 AM
...To hear the EBow! Play one myself...
Great Track. Vocals do also remind me of Reed from his New York period. Like the way it takes its time to get stuck in and the use of the vocal harmony part being female is on the button. Is that also you through Vocal Transformer or someone else? Best wishes. [ Reply to This ]

Thanks for the comments... there's really nothing special going on: the guitar is through a line 6 flextone II amp (I bought it in 2000 -- they don't make them anymore) and I just used a heavy tremolo on the rhythm track and some deep reverb and delay on the lead notes (with a little bit of a synth intro courtesy of the Ozonic keyboard and GB's anaolg synth presents). The vocals are just me singing an octave higher (and my range is only about an octave and a half, so I'm stretching it at the bottom end). It's one of the first pieces I did in GB, so the mix is pretty flat. [ Reply to This ]
