Description:
Easy-going little piece; lazy verse structure, back for the big block vocal style in the choruses; you may guess by now that this is one of my favourite things, blocking up choruses - I tend to do it a lot, although not actually ALL the time.
The song itself, although set firmly in the world of the 'noughties', is a hark-back to the great 'summer of love' of 1967, and a lament as to where it may have gone...
Lyrics:
I put the phone down not long after
the fingertip confession
But the text still swims before mt eyes
a textual regression
Is the cash machine a target for my
counterfeit aggression,
Or merely just a subtitute for
sexual repression?
Did it relieve the tension
or do I have to try again?
Ch.
Listen for the silence in between
each & every sigh
Listen to the world pretend your
meaning still survives
Listen for the heartbeat stong & pure
in each & every life
Listen for a solitary sign you're still alive
I spent the day like yesterday
in meaningless reflection
On the whys & wherefors of the world
a Far-Eastern election
Or a candidate for any state of
political repression
And a coat of many coluours in a
brand-new misdirection
Did it betray the mission
or do I have to try again?
Ch.
The long & short is no-one hears
for long enough to mention
But the saddest part is no one cares
a major-league transgression
You pop the pills & pay the price
for this diluted heaven
We haven't seen so much of you since
1967
Will we ever learn our lesson
or do I have to try again?
Ch.

liked that thumping beat. gets the head a nodding in time. great vocal delivery and great chorus. great song. more rock then pop, could be misleading to some. [ Reply to This ]
Tobin put out your name... &mdash 02/28/07 - 02:04:23 PM
...and I can see why.
I'm from this time period. Thanks for the trip back.
"...a lament to where it may have gone..." hits it pretty squarely on the head, my friend.
Everything about this tune's great, Tetsujin.

Hey out there... &mdash 03/16/07 - 11:11:18 AM
You are a REAL song writer... very very strong content, delivery, perfect straight-foward... YOUR WRITING IS, AGAIN SUPERB... you say you tend to block up the chorus, but it doesn't sound formulaic... I can't hear it any other way... great touch on the end, as it comes down...

dilluted heaven &mdash 03/17/07 - 07:58:47 AM
wow, what a great tune. Like Scott said...you sure know how to write a tune! It the 'pop' genre it's difficult to walk the line between producing something familiar enough to be considered pop yet unique and original enough to matter. You do a great job walking that line on this tune. The lyrics are fantasitc...the whole song is leaving me in a strange melancholy place....which is a great thing. I'm glad Tobin pointed you guys out! [ Reply to This ]
Uplifted &mdash 03/20/07 - 07:41:11 AM
There is something marvelous about the emotional uplift this song provides, even tho the words are a critique rather than an inspiration. But the obvious bias of the writer is toward light and life comes thru in the arrangement and performance and waves of goodness the song conveys. Very nice track. [ Reply to This ]
