Description:
What a joy to collaborate with Alf! He came up with a very interesting melody inspired by this call from a minaret. Then he arranged some instrumentation to go with it and by the time he sent it over to me it was already pretty groovy. I added some more parts, guitar, percussion, organ and remixed it a bit. Here is the result, we hope you like it (we do!). -SM

it's like the dreams you might get after you've been sightseeing the world for a week. wow.

in addition to Reggae and Middle Eastern, there's a Hawaiian angle to the vocals somehow, and ...?

thanks

What a nice .... &mdash 02/17/07 - 03:06:51 PM
... array of sounds here. It was like being on vacation while listening. I was just missing the fact that the beach wasn't in my office - but my head was bopping along anyway.

What a fantastic contribution from both of you. i must say, I've never heard anything quite like this. It's TONS of fun -- really. I love the feel of this. It's very optimistic and SUCH a groove! I'll have to go ahead and download this one. Thanks. :-)

your comments mean so much to me... &mdash 02/22/07 - 01:20:54 AM
...I started this tune over a year ago, being pissed off about the situation in the Middle East, especially of international racial paranoia, seeming to raise its ugly head. I simply got stuck on the piece, & when the opportunity of working with Sergio (Secamode) came about, I thought that he would be perfect to add that element of 'optimism', which, after reading your kind comments, he clearly has!
Thank You So much Miss C!

This IS a bit of everything- &mdash 02/24/07 - 12:46:00 PM
I enjoy listening to musicians who are not concerned about 'absolute authenticity' of one style, and can work with a canvas that includes sounds from anywhere and everywhere. This really moves along, and has some fresh sounds and combinations. Great collaboration!

...this was &mdash 03/11/07 - 06:21:01 PM
the great thing about this collab. Sergio & I have quite different 'approaches' to music, & the Middle East 'flavour' was the common thread between us. It was very exciting to hear Sergio's final mix. I agree with you on the 'authenticity' issue, & like food the various ingredients, although 'seemingly' disparate, can sometimes combine to create new & interesting results. Thank You so much for stopping by Kristyjo!
Cheers!

Great track &mdash 09/29/07 - 01:47:24 PM
I listen to alot of Middle East music and this is a brilliant take, esp the fact that the reggae kicks in and completely transforms the track. A pleasureable listening experience. Even my wife thinks its great.

Very cool .. &mdash 07/04/08 - 10:21:47 AM

.. happy and sunny. I thought at first the vocals were singing "it's a long way, long way .. for a kebab" 8o) .. but that was prolly just me... so pay no heed.

Groovy, happy catchy tune - yup, reggae meets middle eastern.
