Description:
This is a composition by Tobz, originally sung by his kid sister. The original song is found here : http://www.icompositions.com/music/song.php?sid=55652.
I loved the melody and its lyrics and it became an instant fave of mine. I imagined it being sung and arranged in a slightly different way, with a little more rhythm, drums, harmonies, and a male voice, so I asked Tobz's permission for me to interpret it my way. I maintained most of the background "woowooh" by the young girl as it had a haunting effect.
Thanks, Tobz, for allowing me to tinker with this song. I really love the result... hope you do, too. And yeah, I'm sharing it with the Macjams community. ;-)
Lyrics:
SOMETIMES
lyrics and music by Tobz;
vocals and additional instruments by Leon
If I told you the world wasn't perfect
Would you leave me standing alone in the dark
If I told you that nothing was perfect
What would you do
Sometimes sadness is a darkness
Waiting to be used
Sometimes sadness is a darkness
Waiting to be used
Sometimes happiness is a gem
Waiting to be found
Sometimes happiness is a gem
Waiting to be found
If I told you there's no love at first sight
Would you leave me standing alone in the dark
If I told you that love grows on people
What would you do
Sometimes sadness is a darkness
Waiting to be used
Sometimes sadness is a darkness
Waiting to be used
Sometimes happiness is a gem
Waiting to be found
Sometimes happiness is a gem
Waiting to be found
[Bridge]
Misery... joyfully playing
Curiosity... fondling its wealth
Sometimes sadness is a darkness
Waiting to be used
Sometimes sadness is a darkness
Waiting to be used
Sometimes happiness is a gem
Waiting to be found
Sometimes happiness is a gem
Waiting to be found

What a great track. I loved everything about this piece, except for that one synth. Wonderful song, I agree with you on the woowoos, they added alot to the atmosphere of the song. [ Reply to This ]

I think .... &mdash 02/19/07 - 12:13:17 PM
... I would have considered toning down the heavy synthy sound a bit to allow the vocals to be clearer in the mix .... Leon, as usual, your singing is dead on .... I liked the whoo whoo's by ("his"/"her") kid sister (her name?). I liked the song overall .. but the mix came through a little heavy in my ears. [ Reply to This ]

Leon, you really sing your heart out on this! I listened to the song that Tobz's sister recorded and it's nice but you raise this song to a whole different level. Tobz has to be pleased with your version. Terrific job, my friend. [ Reply to This ]

Hey, Tobz! Great to have you here! Welcome and hope you enjoy the new community. It's a little different from ICompositions' environment, but you'll find great friends here if you hang around frequently. Cheers, and hope to hear your other songs posted here.

You spoil us, Leon ... &mdash 02/25/07 - 09:25:55 AM
... you post nothing for months, and now we get track after track! This is a great electropop track, with a great tempo - almost sluggish, tettering on the edge of a slow dance. As per, vox and harmonies are faultless, with some clear, direct and beautiful lyrics.
Great simple pop track - the sound of summer discos in '07!?

Hey, Steve &mdash 02/25/07 - 06:26:20 PM
Thanks for stopping by and listening to this. Tobz is a young English guy I met over at iCompositions, and he had this gem. Been on a roll lately, but I'll be on a musical hiatus soon with work and studies.
Wow, you got a new song! Gotta check that out right now!!

Leon, you really found the center on this track. Its sounds as if its from one mind. The backing tracks frame your voice perfectly. Esp liked the organ choices. Lots of depth, Nice job. [ Reply to This ]

Oh my. I totally love the way notes seem to rise magically out that pounding bass line. What key is this in?

I've been off the site for a while and came across this one by you that I had not heard. This is another first rate piece by you. I spent years in the radio business listening to a lot of pop music. You have some of that magic that I looked for when I was a music director for a pop station. [ Reply to This ]
