Description:
I was lost
Like a ship without a compass
on the open sea
Aimlessly drifting
never knowing what my future would be.

But when I look in your eyes
I see
exactly what my life and my future will be
In your eyes I see
all my love for you shine back at me
When I look into your eyes.

really nice composition! all melds well. this gives the impression of driving on a back country road with the dog hanging his or hers (gotta be pc) head out the window, your pup?

Vic, thanks &mdash 02/21/07 - 08:24:43 PM
Interesting comment from you and I think it proves one of the universals about any art and that is that the viewer or the listener brings something of himself to the experience that is totally unknown to the person who originally conceived the work.
My feeling in putting this piece together was more of a "bedroom" composition than an "out in the country" feeling.
Perhaps because the best picture of beautiful eyes that I have in my collection is from Cassie my dog, you interpreted the song as a daytime and outdoor feel and my feeling was of midnight in bed.
Thanks for the comment and as always for letting my song assult your ears for a few minutes.

Would you like to flesh out the rest of the lyrics and sing them? I think it would be a good collaboration.

...great track. Smooth production all around. Right up there with some of my favorite smooth Jazz/New Age compositions by established artists. Thanks for sharing it.:)

Thank you so much &mdash 02/22/07 - 12:18:29 PM
These are words of high praise and I appreaciate them a lot. This type of song is not in my usual style but one of my students said something about my songs not being "pretty" ... so I set out to right a "pretty song"

It should read "I set out to write a "right pretty song". I guess my cleverness got the best of me and I left out a part of the phrase.

Solid, great production &mdash 02/27/07 - 10:05:26 AM
I especially liked your heartfelt soloing, the layering in the chorus, and the way you blended stylings. Excellent production. Consider placing this track under Soft Jazz or Musak. I always feel like Other songs are orphaned somehow.

I agree with you that "other" often is a place that songs go to be ignored. My problem is that when I really listen to some of my stuff, like this song, I am lost as to where to put it. It has jazz elements but the drum track is not really of that genre. I'm also not sure that it meets the high standards of improvisation and the use of real instruments that is the hallmark of most jazz. The structure of the song is very traditional pop with a verse, chorus, bridge, verse, chorus and coda. That puts the song really in the pop vein but I am not comfortable putting it there partly because it is instrumental and pop usually involves good lyric hooks. It's not rock. I end up choosing "other".

Thanks so much for the use of your ears for a few minutes.

BTW there may be lyrics and vocals put to this by the SISTERS. I can't wait ... my first colab.!!! and with two of the most talented singers on this site.

Soft Jazz is a jazz subgenre that is structured more like pop songs, since it evolved out of covers of pop songs for CD collections like Sax On The Beach; like Muzak, it is meant for mainstream consumption. I think this track fits in well both places, especially on a site like MJ that doesn't really get hardcore jazz ears.

Quite relaxed and chilled this one. Piano playing was cool and the
refrain/chorus was a big hook for me. Nice job on the production end. Everything seems balanced and superbly mixed

I'm glad you liked it &mdash 03/15/07 - 11:30:36 PM
Really a much more mellow tune than many I have posted here on MJ and pretty traditional in the structure but still fun for me to put together.

modest skills &mdash 05/11/07 - 01:18:11 PM
the skills I have are modest at best but I do like to see what I can come up with in Garageband and have a lot of fun keeping my sanity by making some music.
