Description:
This piano number came at the end of a long session of writing on night not long ago. The title struck me as descriptive of "shutting the book" on the evening...kind of putting the thoughts to bed and tucking them in for the night.

Lyrics:
a song without words

expresses the "closing the book" feeling. How you managed to compose a lovely song after writing all night is beyond me. I'd be nodding off. but then, music does tend to energize... Very nice tune, Paul, expertly played, and as usual, with great depth of feeling. :-)

You are a huge talent, no question about that! You play with such a perfect and light touch; you have a complete mastery of the keyboard, both in your writing and your playing.

I just saw that you call it a 'song without words,' which is interesting because I can hear someone taking this and adding words to it; it seems a natural thing to do.

Lovely.

Another excellent piece of music.... &mdash 02/22/07 - 02:01:19 PM
Paul this is another piece of excellent piano music. It does 'finish things off' in its own way, as I feel it is a 'completion' piece of music. It just seems to dot the i's and cross the t's.

Jolly good show.

Paul.

ANOTHER one!! &mdash 02/22/07 - 10:11:23 PM
As Clark points out, another song that sounds as if it has words already... I'm running out of ways to say it, Paul, but this so intelligently lyrical it's stunning...

I can really hear the way the vocalist would PHRASE it, and I don't even know the words...

Lovely melody... You're just so good at this, Paul...

it is! This is the perfect Track 10 on your upcoming CD of piano and vocal standards for the 21st century. Keep 'em coming PFP.

and to all a good night &mdash 02/23/07 - 05:37:27 PM
This piece flows with the smoothness and ease which naturally comes after an extended period of creative endeavor.

The running eighth-notes provide a consistent underpinning throughout, and the chord progressions follow logically, with little unexpected twists and turns.

It is this idea of musical side-streets that makes this piece sound like it DOES indeed have words. It's almost like a show-tune ballad.

Why more people aren't voting on good pieces like this is beyond me. But there's a good bunch of comments, which is more important anyway.

Has a nice 30's feel, semi-classical, semi-jazz. Reminds me of an old record, and some undiscoverd mystery.

Excellent work! &mdash 02/26/07 - 06:34:24 PM
Yes...this captures well that "days (or is it 'daze'?) end" feeling. Perhaps your best yet Paul. I'm so happy to see this getting much deserved attention.

Be well!
