Keywords:
Adam (4)Eve (5)Capture (4)Rapture (2)
Description:
This song came about while fooling around in Garageband, not on the guitar as most of my songs have in the past. I listened to the melody for a few days on my iPod, trying to figure out lyrics and, strangely, most of the melody for the lyrics came as a countermelody to what I'd played on the keyboard. Strange but I liked it. Only when I came up with the line: "You make me feel like Adam when Adam first touched Eve," did the lyrics come together.
After I'd finished the song, it reminded me a bit of the band, Everything But The Girl, whom I admire a lot. Don't know if anyone else can hear it or not.
Anyway, hope you like it. Comments welcome.

Lyrics:
CAPTURE THE RAPTURE
(WHEN ADAM FIRST TOUCHED EVE)

You make me feel like Adam
When Adam first touched Eve.
Then you make me feel uncertain,
Stupid and naïve.

Oceans of emotion wash over you and me
Will we ever capture the rapture?
Like when Adam first touched Eve.

You pretend you are my captive
Say your heart is chained and bound.
Then you jump into your green machine
And drive right out of town.

Oceans of emotion wash over you and me
Will we ever capture the rapture?
Like when Adam first touched Eve.

When Adam first touched Eve, I do believe
She smiled and left behind an apple core
And poor Adam thought there must be more.

Well, you make me feel uncertain
Unsure of how to proceed.
Then you make me feel like Adam
When Adam first touched Eve.

Oceans of emotion wash over you and me
Will we ever capture the rapture?
Like when Adam first touched Eve.

I see you smiling as you’re driving
You’re driving in the rain
Somehow I can’t explain
How you left Eden.

Thanks, Vic. I know you're in the art field so you might appreciate this: I took some inspiration for this song from the paintings of the Art Deco painter Tamara Lempicka. Are you familiar with her work? She has a painting entitled "Adam and Eve" and a self portrait of herself driving a green car. I thought about using them as the art for the song but didn't know if it would be kosher because of copyrights.
But thanks for listening and for such gracious comments. I really appreciate them.

Is there a female singing the line 'capture the rapture'?
Or am I merely imagining that.Great ambient watery sounds - interesting lyrics - for some reason your voice reminds me of talking heads. The beat gets a bit overworked in parts for me,but thats ok cos it contrasts with the serene-ness of the other sections.Interesting stuff!

Hey, thanks, Paddler. &mdash 02/26/07 - 01:23:17 AM
There is no woman singing. There is only me doing back ups but I'm using the Vocal Transformer conversion from male to female in Garageband. As long as you keep it in the background it sounds like a woman but raise the volume too hight and it sounds mechanical so one has to be careful with it.
Hey, I'm a big fan of the Talking Heads, so thanks for the comparison.
Glad you took the time to listen and comment.

Good stuff J2! You're upping the ante lately musically and your vocal delivery seems to improve with every new song. Yes, this is very nice...cool...breezy...

Be well!

Hey, Michael &mdash 02/27/07 - 10:37:31 AM
Thanks for the kind words. Yes, I've felt the vocals are getting better so it's nice to hear it from someone else. Practice makes perfect, I guess. Looking back on the songs I've posted here at MJ, it seems people are responding more favorably to this electropop sound, which is cool since I enjoy making these.
Peace.

wow - the mood here is great! it's so melancholy.

there seems to be a sense of regret in the words, and a huge flow of possibilities in the sweeping stringlike sounds behind it, especially at the end. well done!

thanks

Hi Smokey &mdash 02/27/07 - 10:58:25 AM
Regret? Well...yeah, there's a distinct difference between the love songs I wrote when I was just out of college and those I write now. Chalk it up to experience, I suppose. The older one gets the more you realize there are no silver linings without those big black clouds. Glad you liked what I did with the music here.
Take care.

VEry nice &mdash 02/27/07 - 11:38:18 AM
I think your counter melody works well. the first few line seem forced but then as the lines get sung later on it flows very nice. My favorite part is when you sing falsetto She smiled and left behind an apple core.
Good work on this one!
